Re: The Serpent Queen [Drama, History]

checklist
1) we have "done" Catherine the Great ( The Great with elle Fanning)
2) Now its Catherine De Medici's turn
3) Next? Lucrezia Borgia?

Re: The Serpent Queen [Drama, History]

I like it. I can watch pretty much anything in the genre but this is definitely toward the top end so far.

Re: The Serpent Queen [Drama, History]

Am I the only one I am finding it all a bit confusing after eps 4, very little seems to stand out.  They have done the age switch thing here also.  by the way the forum has not been added to the entry

Re: The Serpent Queen [Drama, History]

Confusing how? Like as in you don't know who the council people and various court folks are? Or something about the plot? I kinda feel like the side characters are mostly just placeholders.

well take away all those placeholders and you dont have much left? I get the impression they were added as the show lacks any real things happening. The maid todos not enough to sustain the show?

Re: The Serpent Queen [Drama, History]

I meant placeholders in that they're just expressions of political positions and not really particularly developed characters. The story's how Catherine deals with all the various factions. I find it interesting enough so far, and it should get more interesting as Francis and Mary get older given the added tensions there.

Re: The Serpent Queen [Drama, History]

eps 6 was the first one that made any sense and was enjoyable.

Re: The Serpent Queen [Drama, History]

The last eps of the series eps 8 was a good one made it all worth while pulled it all together. Mary of Scotland was a great character as were the Bourbon brothers

Re: The Serpent Queen [Drama, History]

Just started with ep1, its gonna be a long time till the apex since its kind of told by the protagonist.
Also common, plain and orphan is so wrong, the name actually made history tongue
To be in those circumstances in that time was almost unique

"Au naturel maybe, thats the way i like it. Swing low, sweet chariots." Creed Bratton

I have absolutely no idea how you can compare anyone in this series to Frankie Howerd, but I really like The Serpent Queen too.  It was one of those shows I put off to watch when I had very few shows left, but I regret that and wished I'd have watched it sooner.

I enjoy it alot more than I did Catherine The Great, I know that.

2020.  Meh.

Ah, "breaking the fourth wall".  Not sure who was the first person to do that, but I think it was in a play long before anybody even uttered "titter ye not".   smile

The show I really disliked that did that was She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Just an irritation

I think in general everyone disliked She-Hulk.  Awful.

Re: The Serpent Queen [Drama, History]

This show must be unique in that the stars of the show are not the stars of the show? ie it is the ancilliary characters ( ie not the queen ) that make it tick. The serpent queen  is more a commentator-voice over.

Great season 2 eps 8 finale.

Spoiler

we had been lulled into a false sense of security that she was losing her touch
