Topic: Dark Matter (2024) (Scifi, Apple TV+)
Dark Matter | Next-Episode Show Page Dark Matter | AppleTV+ Show Page
Hailed as one of the best sci-fi novels of the decade, “Dark Matter” is a story about the road not taken. The series will follow Jason Dessen (played by Joel Edgerton), a physicist, professor and family man who — one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself.

Not to be confused with Dark Matter 2015, but I guess Apple doesn't care. 101 & 102 were ok but... ▼Spoiler ...it took him way too long to figure out he was in a parallel universe, annoying, and then Velocity kills his wife and I was even more annoyed.

I am intrigued by this...I loved 3rd body, and also Constellation (2 eps in)...can you say more about it without spoiling?

Without spoiling it?, well the first 10 minutes of 101 could've been more engaging; a lot of scenes are set at night so the tone is much like the title, dark, it's horror/thriller/suspense, more so than 3 body and Constellation, at least to me, but the story picks up at the 20 minute mark and is so engaging I'd want to binge a couple seasons. Jennifer Connelly and Joel Edgerton are believable playing slightly different versions of their characters, and similar to Constellation's multiverse, it's a character study on what people would be like in different universes and made different choices. The concept of superposition is in both Constellation and Dark Matter, so they're using the same idea/framework to tell their story, just in a different way. I suppose the show description (above) from AppleTV+ spoils the plot of the first two episodes and is very apt. If I were to rate them: #1. 3 Body Problem #2. Dark Matter (Note: it's only 2 episodes in, so it could go up or down.) #3. Constellation. Hopefully that helps.

Its Three-Body Problem or 3 Body Problem. 3rd body problem sounds like you have problems with your body and you are talking about the third one.

Re: Dark Matter (2024) (Scifi, Apple TV+)
3 Body Problem just didn't grab me, I still cant be bothered finishing it. This on the other hand is great so far, the end of the second episode actually shocked me but I'm guessing maybe that can be effectively rolled back by the multiverse?

I was saving up a few episodes until starting it but... That description sounds like its a dark remix of 'Sliders'. https://next-episode.net/sliders Anyone here old enough to remember Sliders who could weigh in?

Yes, it's exactly a dark remix of sliders!!! but with a budget and source material. A Jerry O'Connell and John Rhys Davies cameo would totally ruin the tone, lolz, can you imagine....
@ol' Graybags, "dull"?, when's the last time you cleaned your glasses or went to the optometrist? Is your AppleTV low res and your CRT failing?

Yep, as dull as a very dull thing indeed, even on my nice, big shiny OLED TV.
2020. Meh.

What show would you consider, not dull? 1x5 was really good. ▼Spoiler I like how they're getting into the finer details behind entering different worlds, controlling the subconscious, which makes me wonder what the original Jason went through his first time in the box, and how he managed to figure it out, and what he's been up to for the last 18 months.

107 is a whole new perspective... ▼Spoiler What if we add a third Jason to the mix? lolz, so good, the potential infinite regress is mind bending if thousands of Jasons walked through the gun shop!

Totally loving this show. Finally some good TV which is created purely for what it is intended to do... entertainment! Sliders on steroids and without any political or woke agenda which is always a bonus! Keep it coming!

Re: Dark Matter (2024) (Scifi, Apple TV+)
After 8 episodes, Dark Matter edges out 3 Body Problem and Constellation; just captures my imagination better. 1x8 (Jupiter) - Love the infinite regress, I assumed it would turn into this, it's such a fun idea, and satisfying in the sense of creating the kind of tension that also gives the audience what they want. I was also hoping/expecting this moment:

Re: Dark Matter (2024) (Scifi, Apple TV+)
Got to this one a little bit into the season so I had the pleasure to binge the first episodes. Excellent stuff, mind-bending and probably waiting for this even more than either they boys or that dragon show. The book version is gonna get devoured after this season and when I finish Chapterhouse Dune for sure.
