Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

After the abysmal storytelling of The book of Boba Fet I actually feared the whole Star Wars franchise was on course to crashamd burn like a bonfire made from trash.

Luckily, Andor came along.

I actually enjoyed the slow paced character building of Episodes 1-5... and Episode 6.was truly glorious. A blockbuster in its own right I dare say.

I hope the rest.of the show will not become anti climatic in the wake of this highlight.

1x8: This show is so good!

The look and feel of the prison alone... worthy of a movie!

And here's a good news/ bad news update I somehow missed:

The story of Cassian Andor will last two seasons.

Showrunner Tony Gilroy clarified Wednesday that Andor will end with its second season, and the final scenes of its last episode will directly segue into the Rogue One feature film that came out in 2016.

Dont think the empire is necessarily evil, just corrupt.
Though they are very obsessed with power and ideas..

To me its like a religion gone big and mad ^^

Great series.

Also, pretty sure Anton Lesser was 'Qyburn' (Cersei's chemist/scientist chappy)

I cant help but see a correlation between The Empire and Nazis. Both evil to the core.

Looking at the uniforms and the whole organization since the inception of the franchise in the 70s... it is quite obvious that they took Nazi Germany as an "inspiration" for the Empire.

That jail in the last episode looks like a modern version of a concentration camp. Where you are worked to death and your sentence never ends.

Well, there is a distinct difference between a forced labor "concentration camp", which also existed in other countries like the famous Gulags, reeducation camps like Xinjiang camps and the extermination camps which served no other purpose than to "exterminate" people... like Treblinka or Auschwitz-Birkenau. I think the real extermination camps, have been mostly a Nazi Germany thing.

Finale was amazing.

Warning - there's an added scene all the way at the end of the credits.

Yeah, that scene was great, finally answered my prison products use case question - in a nicely unexpected kinda way. smile

Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

I watched most of it over the holiday and the rest after; in the end, though it started slow and had a lot of obvious tropes laid one atop the other, there were times even when characters action was more plot driven than it should have... still... With all the love the show was given by it's creators, excellent introductions of elements only previously explored in novels or games, the senate intrigue and behind the Rebellion action as well as the obvious money spent here I was hard pressed to dislike it.

As someone who usually prefers watching a series in installments this is one of the rare times I would strongly suggest bingeing as its pace can take time to acclimate to. [ Also is this why Boba was all sound stage and inserts while Obi just straight-up seemed as though it was filmed Romero: Night of the Living Dead style?! ]

Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

I just marathoned this show this weekend (finally in the mood) and it's absolutely EPIC!  Glad I waited.

I agree with Fiz, you need to binge it all at once to enjoy it, so, anyone who bailed on this show early on like me, go back and marathon it!  The story is really engaging as it gives new information about how...

Spoiler

...the rebel alliance began and was funded.

Senator Mon Mothma is so well cast, a dead ringer for the original, and other than Tony Gilroy is a genius and this show had clear and consistent direction, I'd attribute the quality to it's superb actors brought in from all the movies.

As for the end credit scene....

Spoiler

...I can't believe they did a prison break story in the middle of this, so good, however, using the "droids are too expensive to manufacture and assemble those parts" argument was SUPER WEAK AND THIN, given the cost of building such an elaborate facility roll , I mean, they had droids installing them on the Death Star, but whatever, a prison break made for great TV.

Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

i am up to eps 5. Sure this is Star Wars? not a single light sabre or ref to "the Force"...

Hehe, yes, didn't make much sense, but a fully automated facility wouldn't have worked for the story. cool

8 months later you respond, lolz, ya I want to read the cost benefit analysis to using humans in multiple highly elaborate underwater facilities to build that Death Star part vs using droids in an old quonset...ridiculous, did you just watch it?

Hehe, no... smile But I don't always receive reply notification emails for some reason and then sometimes miss a post if I don't check threads manually.

Try making a new show thread without the proper things included, it's a sure summon big_smile

Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

They could build droids to make droids to make that death star part, AND humans are weaker than droids and harder to maintain with food, shelter, and oxygen, AND there's risk getting injured in kidnapping men, AND there's political risk in human trafficking, and of course, rebellion in the face of injustice, and so on, its ridiculous.

The plot only works if they coerced people to make something a droid can't manufacture or accomplish, like the scientists in Rogue One.

47

Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

I obviously haven't thought about this as much as you but perhaps all the droid factories are maxed out making droids to work on the death star, where prisoners and slaves can't work because space?

And i've started threads. The joke was general in that Lighton appears nearly instantaneously if you start a show thread without including all the stuff in the new show thread instructions. It's possible there are Candyman- or Beetlejuice-style methods as well but I only know about the one

Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

The Droids are Maxed out argument, compared to building massive elaborate underwater facilities for people?  That don't make no sense!  One assembly line for droids on some vacant moon would be cheaper...in fact, that's a reasonable plot line, kidnapping people to build the facility to build droids that build droids for the part for the death star, totally works!  We solved it! lol

Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

Didnt they say droids were more expensive and more difficult to create? In comparison to human labor
Im sure in one show they mentioned it, alsooo uprising and hacking etc

Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

Who builds the droids that build the people that kidnap the droids to build the assembly line for the people kidnapper droids... at some point we're left with either an infinite regress or an un-built droid, perhaps the Maker C-3PO is always invoking big_smile
