Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
lighton wrote:With Shakespearean dialogue I had to disagree, but I like your list! Since the medium is different I would never call Foundation a knock-off. Inspired by Shakespeare? Could be!
I'd add dialogue to it too just for the record atleast in the Cleon arc, I brought out the other points to show that there is something to it, for the dialogue specifically.. I mean that's a field in itself but it just happens to strike all of my former points and a lot of "Shakespearean dialogue"-points like e.g. 1. Nearly all dialogue is character-specific and emotional rather then logical and objective 2. The whole Cleon arc, all dialogue in it is practically multilayered to support the Foundation arc, I noted that in 2x01 they switched that around for whatever reason at one point, maybe that's where they are innovating on the Shakespearean model? Just speculating, it's a bit of a cheap writing trick to do it this way but if it works who can judge? 3. It's universal themes over and over, not specific themes to setting 4. Repetition through scenes They have skipped the verses and prose I think although I note that Cleon in particular has better structured sentences that makes him come off more powerful. Proses and verses wouldn't be suitable for an audience for a show like this so makes perfect sense.

Food for thought, thanks for sharing. I'll try to pay attention to details like sentence structure in future episodes.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
The trouble with the way the show is presented is there not enough time for this ruminating dialogue leading to a show where not enough happens eg the eps 2 the dinner table dialogue. The only time the show picked up was with the Foundation magicians. I think this is a show that needs to be binge watched.

I enjoyed the dinner table dialogue, and would never binge-watch this show. Are you open to the possibility that lots of people love the show (because it's high quality), you just are not one of them? Maybe you should stop watching it.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
I just finished rewatching Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles and just restarted The Expanse. These were great shows( until Expanse went wrong at the end), Foundation isn't.

2x3. Great sci-fi entertainment. The settings, the storytelling, the acting, everything!

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
I was a huge fan of the Foundation books, especially given that it's been shamelessly stolen off of by every other major Sci-Fi series out there. I'm probably the only one that thinks this as a book fan, but the changes they've made have been universally GOOD imo. This is and always was going to be a slow burn series, one that has massive amounts of world building and story telling, and so far I think they've done a stellar job at conveying the size and scope of the Foundation Universe. Personally, it's my favorite Sci Fi series since The Expanse, and I have a feeling as time goes on and the narrative continues to unfold it has potential to be one of the Great Sci Fi shows.

eps 3 was pretty good for the desert scene & the needle scene; the Mr Empire just more rumination.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
Season 2 has amazing special effects and so far the story's held my attention...Sal is definitely less repellent. How many Cleon's has there been since season 1? Can someone catch me up. Why is he getting a wife?, to unite a kingdom, am I missing something? Just seems like a very un-empire-ish thing to do, given how toxic she seems, and how are Dawn and Dusk not against this? I like how Demerzel was able to auto-repair, that was cool. 2x4 - I liked the whole Hober Mallow story, a classic space pirate is some needed comic relief, and the religion that's been formed since Hari Seldon left, is funny, all part of the plan. Looking forward to how things go on Terminus next episode. Even though the story is sprawling all over the place, it's still fun to follow.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
Okay seriously, ▼Spoiler What is it about Jared Harris always playing roles that end up dead from non-natural causes? Just wasted some time compiling a small list from Wikipedia: Fringe (2008-2012, twice) Mad Men (2009-2012) Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) Pompeii (2014) The Expanse (2015-2017) The Crown (2016-2017) Robert the Bruce (2019) Chernobyl (2019, presumably, the real guy he played commited suicide) Carnival Row (2019) Morbius (2022) Foundation (2021-, twice now?)
There are multiple stabbings in this list. Maybe there's something about his face that makes people go "yup, looks killable"?

I noticed that too, he's so type cast, but what a great way to make a living though, playing a variation on the same character; he might have everyone fooled:

It's probably something to do with his breeding, his dad was a very good British actor, a "proper" actor.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
Thanks for the list in your spoiler, some_one. I like through have many lenses one can watch a show. 2x7 was another good episode. I've seen many Zen gardens in TV shows and movies, but this was the first time I saw anyone destroying the immaculate patterns by walking over them. ▼Spoiler Salvor Hardin dead for real? I would be surprised!

2x8. WOW! I was 100% sure that... ▼Spoiler ...the beheading would not happen, but loved the suspense. And preventing the beheading with a whisper-ship jump into the live audience was SO satisfying! And a great ending. Superb episode!

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
▼Spoiler I'm not gonna lie, the show would be better if it had gone through and we had seen her head roll on the stairs, after that the rightful Emperor should go and bombard the foundation, upstarts like this needs to be kept down.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
2x8 - INSANELY GOOD! That was incredible television. Roxanne Dawson directed this flawlessly. The edits were so tight between scenes, gripping story with highs and lows that built throughout, with an even more intense ending...superb. 9.0/10 on IMDB, I'd say 10/10. Also, Hober Mallow side quests just make this show awesome, you could make a video game around him. Last season was average, and this season is all hits, every episode. @Lighton - YES! @Kanga - lolz.

And by doing so you will ruin the show, and then complain more about how bad the show is...
