It's a good question.
But what else can we do?
We don't have info about the next episode, we don't know how many episodes were ordered ... It may as well be only one episode in a season in which case the status will be accurate ...
Suggestions on how to improve this?

You rely heavily on outside sources. Nothing wrong with that. But when you do have an error and you catch it, correct it.

It appears to be a new show. First Episode of Season 1 is a new show. S01 Ep01its a new show if it was season 2 or higher it would be classified as continuing etc.
In some cases because of errors from other sources, you may have to manually fix the error, if you value accuracy.
The choice is as always yours.

There's not really an error to correct. if you follow that imdb link you gave, they didn't know either. It is also listed with 'max' rather than 'maximum' and shows 6 eps https://thetvdb.com/series/super-max-retro-show#seasons

Its a new show. There was no season zero episode 1.
This is not rocket science.
If if was a continuation of a show it would not START at Season 1 EP1. Continuations start at higher numbers.
So it is an error. You can put sprinkles on a shit donut. But your still eating shit.

I'll give you another example of why we can't do much about it:

As you can see for this show, there is only 1 episode aired in 2019.
It's "On Hiatus" because too much time passed since that episode, but if it was more recent - it would've also been a "Returning Series" because there is no information of it being cancelled.
As far as Next Episode is aware, it's the same situation with Super Maximum Retro Show:
- no info about number of ordered episodes
- no info about future air dates and episodes
- no info about the show being cancelled
In any case, what is your suggestion here inkblot. What do you think we should do with shows which fit the above criteria? And is it an exception for S1E1? What do we do after S1E2?

"Oh no, this show with essentially no information out there, that's had its name abbreviated on the source databases to be different from the adverts, that a whopping 12 people have watchlisted has the wrong status! I'd like to return this shit donut and speak to your supervisor!"
You're right, it's not rocket science, it'd have to be divination.

S1E1 is a really good indicator that its new and not a continuing show.

I simply ask that you not list this show as RETURNING. How can it be a Returning show if it never aired an episode?
Since this show is clearly BEGINNING. How this has become so damn difficult is beyond me. Am I speaking another language here?
Is it too much to ask to be as accurate as possible?

Listing a show that has never aired an episode as simply beginning or starting is not that hard. But it appears for you it is.

Both the show you started this thread for AND the show I linked as a similar case - have in fact aired an episode.

Once again I ask, if there has never been an episode 1, how can the show be a continuation? Simple question. But apparently it requires a complicated answer. I did not ask about any other show.
