Re: Ending or Canceled TV Shows for the 2023-24 Season
I'm shocked. While I haven't enjoyed this season as much as I did season 1, I didn't think it's worthy of cancellation. I mean, some pretty awful shows just seem to go on forever. The Flash, anyone?
2020. Meh.

Whose Line Is It Anyway? will end after its 12th season airs. https://deadline.com/2022/11/whose-line … 235164524/ I love the usual gang, but the celebrity guests were pretty much awful. Sad to see it go cuz it was nice to have a non-series-based laugh once a week.

Hunters: Season Two; Prime Video Sets Final Season Premiere Date; Jennifer Jason Leigh Joins CastHunters now has a premiere date for its second season – which will also be the show’s final season. Jennifer Jason Leigh is joining Al Pacino, Logan Lerman, Jerrika Hinton, Josh Radnor, Kate Mulvany, Tiffany Boone, Greg Austin, Louis Ozawa Changchien, Carol Kane, Saul Rubinek, Dylan Baker, and Lena Olin in the alternate history drama where the Nazis still exist in the 1970s. ▼Spoiler Don't say I didn't warn you! ▼Spoiler A still-living Hitler will play a significant role in season two. Leigh will play Chava Apfelbaum, a top Nazi hunter. The following was revealed about her character, per David Weil, creator of the Prime Video series: “This is a character who at times may seem very demure, and then we see explosions within her. At times she can feel explosive, and then there’s such vulnerabilities inside of her. Jennifer’s a chameleon, and that was what was required for this role… She wears many different hats, many different masks and faces. You never know what you can expect with Chava, and it keeps our hunters on their toes, but there’s a real deep rooting with her to some of our characters: emotional, character driven. So there’s both beauty and brutality to the character of Chava.” Weil also said the following about the second season, per Entertainment Weekly: [...] The second and final season of Hunters debuts on January 13th.

Avalon: Cancelled; ABC Drops Plans for David E. Kelley Series Starring Neve CampbellABC has pulled out of its plans for Avalon. The series, from David E. Kelley, was given a straight-to-series order back in February and was intended to launch during the current 2022-23 season. Starring Neve Campbell, Demetrius Grosse, Alexa Mansour, Steven Pasquale, and Roslyn Ruff, the series is based on a short story by Michael Connelly. The series takes place in the main city of Avalon on Catalina Island, where LA Sheriff Department Detective Nicole “Nic” Searcy (Campbell) heads up a small office. Catalina has a local population that serves more than 1 million tourists a year, and each day when the ferries arrive, hundreds of potential new stories enter the island. Detective Searcy is pulled into a career-defining mystery that will challenge everything she knows about herself and the island. It is possible, however, that the series could land on another outlet. Variety reported the following about the ABC cancellation: “According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, ABC opted not to move forward with the series order for “Avalon” after screening the pilot. A+E Studios is said to still be bullish about the project and are weighing options on how to proceed.”

Chrisley Knows Best, Growing Up Chrisley, Love Limo: USA Network and E! Shows Reportedly CancelledUSA Network and E! are reportedly severing ties with the Chrisley family. According to Deadline, the Chrisley Knows Best, Growing Up Chrisley, and Love Limo TV shows have all been cancelled. The move comes after stars Todd and Julie Chrisley were sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison. Todd was given a 12-year sentence plus 16 months of probation after, in June, being found guilty of conspiring to defraud community banks out of more than $30 million of fraudulent loans. There were also various tax crimes, including conspiring to defraud the IRS. His wife Julie was found guilty of wire fraud and obstruction of justice and was sentenced to seven years with 16 months probation. Their accountant, Peter Tarantino, was sentenced to three years in prison. He was found guilty of filing two false corporate tax returns on behalf of the Chrisleys’ company. Chrisley Knows Best, which premiered on USA Network in 2014, follows the lives of Georgia real estate tycoon Todd Chrisley and his wealthy family. The show was renewed for a 10th season in May, and episodes that were filmed before the convictions will air next year. Spin-off Growing Up Chrisley launched in January 2019 and revolves around two of the couple’s oldest offspring, Chase and Savannah. The first three seasons aired on USA, and the fourth moved to the E! cable channel. The fourth season episodes finished airing last month. A dating series, Love Limo was ordered to series in May and was to be hosted and executive produced by Todd Chrisley. The E! show would have featured Chrisley helping singles find love utilizing 20-minute interactions.

Re: Ending or Canceled TV Shows for the 2023-24 Season
‘Westworld’ & ‘The Nevers‘ Pulled Off HBO Max, Marking Victorian Drama’s Formal EndTwo other original scripted series, Westworld and The Nevers, are coming off HBO Max. Unlike others that we have reported on, Lionsgate TV’s Minx and Love Life and Sony TV’s Gordita Chronicles — all comedies — Westworld and The Nevers are high-end Warner Bros. Discovery drama productions for HBO proper, and I hear they are likely to resurface on other company platforms. WBD CEO David Zaslav has spoken about his plan to enter the burgeoning FAST channel space, so Westworld and The Nevers would likely be offered in that form, I hear. The removal of Westworld is a surprise as it remains one of the most recognizable HBO dramas of the last decade. The sci-fi series was recently canceled after four seasons so some of its fans may not have caught up on all episodes before it’s removed. This marks the formal cancellation for the Joss Whedon-created The Nevers, whose six-episode Season 1A aired back in 2021, with the second part of the season yet to be scheduled. It will now end up in the show’s new home whatever that is. The storyline has been crafted in a way that it concludes with Season 1B, sources said. As Deadline reported, the HBO Max slate has been undergoing end-of-year financial review by WBD, leading to a slew of cuts. Westworld, created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, an adaptation of the 1973 Michael Crichton film, won nine Primetime Emmys during its run and 54 noms. Its cast included Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Thandie Newton, Tessa Thompson, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Luke Hemsworth, Aaron Paul and many others. Newton won the series’ sole acting Emmy, Supporting Actress in Drama Series in 2020, for her portrayal of Maeve, who began the show as a Western town android prostitute (called “Hosts” on the show) and eventually evolved into a badass warrior protecting her robotic kin. The Nevers is set in Victorian London and follows a group of mostly women, known as the Touched, who suddenly manifest abnormal abilities. Among them are Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a mysterious and quick-fisted widow, and her best friend Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant inventor.

‘Step Up’ Canceled After Its One Season On StarzThere will be no fourth season of Step Up (fka Step Up: High Water). Starz has canceled the drama series after its one-season run on the network. The upcoming Season 3 finale, slated to premiere next week, serving as a series finale. The first two seasons of the Lionsgate TV TV-produced Step Up ran on YouTube. After the Google-owned company in 2019 pulled out of the original scripted business, leaving the series in limbo, Lionsgate-owned Starz stepped in and picked it up for a third season. The cancellation of Step Up follows Starz’s cancellation yesterday of another Lionsgate TV-produced series, Dangerous Liaisons, reversing its early Season 2 renewal. Lionsgate has been scrutinizing its balance sheets as the company is preparing to spin off its studio from Starz next year though sources indicated that the cancellations are largely product of fiscal austerity in a very tough economic environment as media companies are stepping up cost-cutting measures. Inspired by the Lionsgate film franchise, Step Up follows the drama, scandalous romance, betrayals and rivalries told through the intersection of the worlds of music and dance within a highly sought-after performance empire. It centers on Sage Odom (Ne-Yo) as the legendary founder of Atlanta’s famed High Water Performing Arts School and Collette (Christina Milian), his partner in High Water and in life. Milian took over the role of Collette, which was originated by the late Naya Rivera, in Season 3. Series also stars Faizon Love, Eric Graise, Terayle Hill, Enrique Murciano and Tricia Helfer.

‘Warrior Nun’ Canceled By Netflix After 2 SeasonsNetflix has opted not to order a third season of Warrior Nun. The decision was made a month after the Nov. 10 release of the fantasy drama’s second season. Warrior Nun‘s second season ratings performance follows the pattern of other scripted series which have been canceled by Netflix as the streamer evaluates viewing vs. cost for their renewal decisions. Season 2 spent just three weeks in Netflix’s Weekly Top 10 for English-language series, peaking at #5. Warrior Nun has built a small yet passionate fan base, which helped it secure a second season renewal but was not enough to sustain the series in the long run. Inspired by the manga novels, Warrior Nun hails from creator/executive producer Simon Barry, who also served as showrunner. It revolves around a 19-year-old woman (Alba Baptista) who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. She discovers she now is part of an ancient order that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her. Baptista led the core cast of the series that also included Kristina Tonteri-Young, Lorena Andrea, Toya Turner (Season 1), Tristán Ulloa, Thekla Reuten as well as Sylvia De Fanti and William Miller who recurred in Season 1 before being promoted in Season 2. Barry executive produced with Stephen Hegyes and David Hayter. Amy Berg was consulting producer. Terri Hughes Burton was co-executive producer.

Mayans MC: Season Five; FX Announces the End for Biker Drama SeriesThe ride is almost over. FX has announced that the upcoming fifth season of Mayans M.C. will be the show’s last. The fourth season of the Sons of Anarchy spin-off finished airing in June of last year. [...] The fourth season of Mayans MC averaged a 0.19 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 607,000 viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). Compared to season three, that’s down by 24% in the demo and down by 19% in viewership. Last July, Mayans MC was renewed for its upcoming fifth season and, at the time, Nick Grad, President of Original Programming for FX Entertainment, said in a statement, “The Mayans have battled for respect, territory and power through four intense seasons that have set the stage for an explosive fifth season that will test their very survival under ‘EZ’s’ newly claimed leadership. Elgin James and the creative team, the brilliant cast, crew and our partners at 20th Television have kept fans coming back for more and we are ready to take that ride with them for another season.” Today, FX Content and FX Productions chairman John Landgraf announced that season five would mark the end of the drama. The reveal wasn’t much of a surprise since James has said that he knew how Mayans MC would finish. “We know where it ends,” he told Variety at the red carpet premiere of season four. “I know the very last shot. So, it’s not in season four, so I’m just going to say, there at least has to be one more. But we know exactly where it ends, and we have been headed there for a while now.” Season five will air at some point this year. The first two seasons aired in the fall, while seasons three and four aired in the spring.

Snowpiercer: Cancelled at TNT; Fourth & Final Season Being Shopped ElsewhereIt seems that TNT is officially out of the original scripted series business. The cable channel has cancelled plans to air the fourth and final season of Snowpiercer. The episodes have been produced and season four will be shopped elsewhere. There’s also a possibility that the show’s universe will keep chugging along. [...] It was announced in June that season four would be the show’s final season and members of the cast were free to pursue other work. Deadline reports that the decision not to air the final episodes was made last month as part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s cuts for tax write-offs. Several shows on WBD’s other outlets — like TBS, HBO, and HBO Max — have also been cancelled and/or pulled in recent months. “We can confirm that TNT will not air season four of Snowpiercer,” a spokesperson for the network said in a statement. “This was a difficult decision, but our admiration for the talented writers, actors and crew who brought Snowpiercer’s extraordinary post-apocalyptic world to life remains strong. We have been working collaboratively with the producers since last year to help the series find a new home where fans can continue to enjoy the compelling story and exceptional visual experience. We look forward to working with them on future projects.” Though Snowpiercer is done on TNT, the final episodes have been finished and are being shopped to other outlets by Tomorrow Studios. Word is that the company is also hoping to sell a prequel and sequel with the hope of building Snowpierecer into a franchise. “We love Snowpiercer and believe season four completes a story with incredible talent that will entertain viewers while exploring issues of climate change and class warfare. We are so passionate about this series that we have acquired the rights to control the franchise,” Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein, CEO/Partner, and Becky Clements, President/Partner, said in a statement. “We hope to find the perfect partner shortly and finish a great ride with the final season.”

‘Uncoupled’ Canceled By Netflix After One SeasonNetflix is not proceeding with a second season of Uncoupled, its comedy series from Emily in Paris creator Darren Star and Modern Family veteran Jeffrey Richman. The cancellation is not surprising. The series, starring Neil Patrick Harris, barely registered on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 rankings, making a single appearance at #6 following its July 29 release. (Half-hour series are at a disadvantage in the ratings system employed by Netflix which measures hours viewed.) Speculation that Uncoupled would not be continue at Netflix started late last year when sources indicated that there was an effort by series producer MTV Entertainment Studios to find a new home. The plan to move the series to a Paramount Global network, possibly Showtime, fall through, I hear. Meanwhile, Netflix remains in business with Star as his comedy Emily in Paris continues to deliver big audiences, with its current third season making the Netflix Top 10 in 93 countries. The series already has been greenlit for a fourth season as part of a two-season pickup. Upcoming Netflix comedy series include That 90s Show, On My Block spinoff Freeridge, Unstable starring Rob Lowe, Survival of the Thickest and The Vince Staples Show. The streamer also recently acquired Girls5eva whose first two seasons debuted on Peacock. In Uncoupled, Harris stars as a gay man in his mid-forties navigating the single life in New York City after he was unceremoniously dumped by his partner of 17 years. The series core cast also includes Tisha Campbell, Brooks Ashmanskas, Emerson Brooks and Marcia Gay Harden. Star and Richman exec produced alongside Harris and Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns, formerly of Jax Media.

The Blacklist: Season 10; NBC Reveals James Spader Series Is EndingRed’s time on television is coming to an end. NBC has announced that the upcoming 10th season of The Blacklist will be the drama’s last. The final episodes begin airing on Sunday, February 26th, at 10:00 PM — the show’s latest in a long list of timeslots over a decade. The Blacklist’s 200th episode will air on March 19th. A crime thriller series, The Blacklist TV show stars James Spader, Diego Klattenhoff, Hisham Tawfiq, Anya Banerjee, and Harry Lennix. The series’ story begins as one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives, Raymond “Red” Reddington (Spader), offers to help the authorities if a specific rookie agent, Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone), partners with him. In season 10, Red confronts unparalleled danger. With Reddington’s covert role as an FBI informant facing exposure, former Blacklisters unite against him in their lethal desire for revenge — testing Red and the FBI Task Force as never before. “After 10 years, hundreds of Blacklist cases and more than 200 episodes produced, we’re honored to reach our conclusion,” said showrunner and executive producer John Eisendrath. “It’s been incredibly fun to create the strange, devious and delightful Blacklisters to challenge Raymond Reddington and our FBI Task Force each week. We would like to thank everyone at NBC and Sony, our extraordinary crew who make the impossible happen every day, our endlessly inventive writers and producers, and our remarkable cast who brought life to these characters. We appreciate our dedicated fanbase who came along for this wonderful ride and are excited to share this final season with them.” “It isn’t often that a series resonates so deeply with an audience that it airs for 10 seasons, but The Blacklist proved to a perfect combination of highly talented producers, stellar writing, a cast that never failed to deliver and a crew that always rose to the occasion,” said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “A huge thank you to our partners at Sony, everyone from the past decade who made this show an integral part of NBC’s storied history and, of course, a special nod to James Spader, whose performance remains nothing short of spectacular.” We thank our wonderful partners at NBC for a remarkable 10 seasons of The Blacklist, the series that introduced the world to Raymond Reddington, brilliantly portrayed by James Spader,” said Jason Clodfelter, Co-President, Sony Pictures Television Studios. “James has led a multi-talented and diverse cast that also featured legendary guest stars and hundreds of Blacklisters who made us all root for this anti-hero. We tip our Reddington hat to the dedicated production staff, hard-working crew and talented writers. The unpredictable plot twists have produced a legacy TV show that served to entertain a worldwide audience and as we enter the final season, we can’t wait for audiences to see how Raymond Reddington takes a final bow.”

Guess that twist towards the end ended up being a homicide after all. Let the Right One In: Cancelled, No Season Two for Showtime Horror SeriesThe tale of Mark and Eleanor has been cut short. Showtime has cancelled Let the Right One In so viewers won’t see a second season. The show’s 10-episode first season concluded last month. A psychological horror drama series, the Let the Right One In TV show was inspired by the Swedish novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist and the film of the same name. It stars Demián Bichir, Anika Noni Rose, Madison Taylor Baez, Grace Gummer, Ian Foreman, Jacob Buster, Nick Stahl, and Kevin Carroll. The story revolves around Mark Kane (Bichir) and his daughter Eleanor (Baez). Their lives were changed forever when, 10 years ago, she was turned into a vampire. Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life and is able to go out only at night. Meanwhile, her father does his best to provide her with the human blood she needs to stay alive. Now, they’ve returned home to New York City after a decade away, desperate to find a cure. Based on the numbers we have, the low-rated first season of Let the Right One In averaged a 0.02 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 81,000 viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). The cancellation news comes as it was announced that Showtime’s linear and streaming platforms would be rebranded. The linear channel will be named “Paramount+ with Showtime”, while the channel’s streaming content will be pulled into the Paramount+ service. As part of that move, Paramount CEO Bob Bakish announced that the company “will divert investment away from areas that are underperforming and that account for less than 10% of our views. We have already begun conversations with our production partners about what content makes sense moving forward and which shows have franchise potential.” The channel released the following statement, confirming the cancellation: “Showtime can confirm that Let the Right One In will not move forward with a second season. We are extremely proud of this series and of the outstanding work by Demián Bichir, Madison Taylor Baez, Anika Noni Rose, our showrunner Andrew Hinderaker and his fellow executive producers, and the entire cast and crew. We would like to thank all of them and our partners at Tomorrow Studios, and we wish everyone the best going forward.”

Kindred: Cancelled by FX on Hulu; Season Two of Sci-Fi Series Being ShoppedThere won’t be a second season of the Kindred TV show, at least on Hulu. The sci-fi drama series was produced by FX and was released as an exclusive on the streaming service. All eight episodes dropped on December 13th. Created by showrunner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, the Kindred TV series is based on the 1979 novel of the same name by Octavia Butler. The show stars Mallori Johnson, Micah Stock, Ryan Kwanten, Gayle Rankin, Austin Smith, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, and David Alexander Kaplan. Set in 2016, a young Black woman and aspiring writer named Dana James (Johnson) has just moved to Los Angeles in order to be close to her Aunt Denise (Eisa Davis), her only remaining family member. As Dana begins to settle into her new home, she finds herself being pulled back and forth in time, emerging at a 19th-century plantation in the Antebellum South. She finds herself having to confront secrets she never knew ran through her blood. Kindred generated a 59% approval rating based on critics’ reviews while 88% of the Rotten Tomatoes audience gave it a thumbs up. In the end, viewership was likely not strong enough to warrant FX ordering a second season. THR reports that Jacobs-Jenkins is expected to shop Kindred to other outlets since he envisioned a three or four-season run for the show. The first season covered about a third of the Butler novel’s material.

‘Pennyworth’ Canceled At HBO Max After Three SeasonsAlfred Pennyworth is ending his origin story. HBO Max has decided against a fourth season of Pennyworth, otherwise known as Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler. The streamer picked up the show for its third season, after two seasons aired on Epix. The DC origin series premiered its 10-episode third season on the streamer in October, and it ran through end of November. It comes after new DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled their plan for the Warner Bros. Discovery comic book studio division and Pennyworth was absent. The drama series joins other DC shows Titans and Doom Patrol, which are also both ending on the streamer after their fourth seasons. [...] “While HBO Max is not moving forward with another season of Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler, we are very thankful to creator Bruno Heller and executive producers Matthew Patnick, Danny Cannon and John Stephens, along with Warner Bros. Television, for their brilliant, unique, gripping depiction of the origin of Alfred Pennyworth, one of the most iconic characters in the Batman world,” said an HBO Max spokesperson. “An incredible blend of action, drama and humor, for three seasons, Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler has taken fans on a mind-bending ride into Alfred’s eccentric world and the beginnings of cutting-edge super heroes and super villains.” Per Gunn and Safran’s unveiling, on the TV side, there’s an animated series, Creature Commandos written by Gunn, the Peacemaker spinoff live action series Waller with Viola Davis, a Lanterns series, Booster Gold and Paradise Lost.

Damn, I really liked it. Yet another example of decent stuff getting cancelled while total garbage goes on for years.

‘Avenue 5’ Canceled After Two Seasons at HBO https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/avenue … 235519818/ Well this sux. Now we will never know if they are rescued. Just out of curiosity How would I merge Avenue 5 with a link? so you would hover over the word Avenue 5 to see it or click the name top go there? Hugh Laurie is not having much success after his hit show House. Everything he has starred in since has been cancelled.
