Topic: House of the Dragon [Game of Thrones Prequel Series]
The new prequel is written by Ryan Condal (Colony), with George R.R. Martin set to co-executive produce. The project is based on Martin's 2019 book Fire and Blood, and is a history of House Targaryen (the ancestors of Daenerys) as they fight through a civil war. The 10-episode project is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. --Source
Check it out here There's so much to work with here, exploring the origins of House Targaryen, and the earlier days of Westeros, that it's not even funny. I expect this series to have a considerable budget thrown at it right off the bat. This series is still in its developmental stages, and no release date confirmed as of yet. Fire & Blood is superb overall, and the Dance of the Dragons story is IMHO, out-of-this-world. A massive civil war of succession between two rival branches of House Targaryen, fought 170 years before the War of the Five Kings. It is called the "Dance of the Dragons" by singers and in popular memory because it was the only major war in Westeros in which both sides had dragons. It was also the first full-scale civil war ever to take place in the Seven Kingdoms. During the Dance brother fought brother, Targaryen fought Targaryen, and dragon fought dragon. It is bloody, incestuous, and full of twists and turns that showed GRRM at his best. It's also incredibly sad (F&B overall makes it even sadder) and completely foreshadows the eventual final demise of House Targaryen (as depicted in the TV show, at least). Dance of the Dragons was the most devastating war in the history of the Seven Kingdoms. Only the War of the Five Kings begins to approach its sheer scale of destruction. I think this show also has a chance to fix some of the narratives surrounding the final season of Game of Thrones. Perhaps by portraying the Targaryen dynasty in all of its glory–ruthless, selfish, dragon-driven frenzy of destruction–it may make Daenerys more understandable as the last in a line of merciless tyrants, rather than a fan-favorite young queen subjected to a barely-fleshed-out-and-unearned heel turn (as depicted in the TV show, at least). Even while knowing this, I admittedly fell victim to this as well. I believe the goal here for HBO is to eventually have the events of the new series lead up to The Dance of the Dragons. Dance of the Dragons is undoubtedly a story I would love to see adapted, far more so than the Dunk and Egg stories, or Aegon's Conquest. Speaking of which, the prequel starring Naomi Watts apparently isn't moving forward at HBO. Let me also clarify that the Dance of the Dragons story and events take place in Fire & Blood. Fire & Blood tells the history of House Targaryen. This upcoming show (House of the Dragon) is based on Fire & Blood. Depending on how well this series is received (in the long run), it could potentially cover a lot more than what I'm describing here.

Re: House of the Dragon [Game of Thrones Prequel Series]
I requested the show to be added earlier and thought I'd start a thread about it some other day... and then you did it. Cool! I plan to not get too involved with the show's details until the first trailer drops.

Ha, I requested the show too, but I saw that your request was added instead. Apparently we asked for the same show on the same day, but you requested it before me. Which led me to an idea that popped in my head, and I'll share it later in your forum thread.

Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves.

Re: House of the Dragon [Game of Thrones Prequel Series]
Pilot seemed very dull and cliched to me, but that could be because I've seen so many historical fiction shows over the years. I could probably treat this as a slow period piece but I'm not sure I can deal given that I actually wince every time either of the two leads is on-screen. I'll give it one more week.

Learning from GoT, I will give this more episodes - if there would not be all the hype, I would never watch GoT, I tried start watching it 3x, never got through the first episode. And then binge watched whole 8 seasons

I'd read the books GoT was based on so knew what to expect from it. Couldn't be bothered to read the one this is based on

I'll be watching the next few to see how it progresses, a lot of setup in the first episode.

Re: House of the Dragon [Game of Thrones Prequel Series]
I liked the jousting. Way more interested in this time period with Visery's I succession to Rhaenyra, than the "Robert Baratheon years" (if you will), that they completely fumbled in GOT's season 8. Even the Mad King years are more interesting to me. Wish they started at the very very beginning with Aegon I though, but maybe we'll get some backstory of that, who knows.
There's also this expanded family tree:
Makes me want to play a couple hours of Crusader Kings (quite literally a game of thrones). That'd be cool, Crusader Kings: Game of Thrones edition....genius. lolz.

There's a mod for that re the jousting ▼Spoiler wait, sweeping the horse's legs is allowed and counts as a win? why is this not the main strategy? honorable jousters adhere to all-valley karate championship rules?

Re: House of the Dragon [Game of Thrones Prequel Series]
so Doctor Who is the baddy? The one thing I did not like they all have bleached straight white hair. Not likely I think. Atleast some thing reasonable to watch for a few months. ▼Spoiler Re the joust, if that horse nobbling was permitted why where they not all doing it? I would. Now that would have been very funny if instead of lance meeting shield like King Arthur of the Round table they all aimed for the horses legs lol

I liked 1x1. It's hard to not instantly compare it with https://next-episode.net/game-of-thrones - but since that wouldn't be fair I tried not to.

It will be good, in the first episode marked who will be the enemies, soon the intrigues and killing will begin Also it sounded like a climate change warning - in approx. 200 years winter will come.

Re: House of the Dragon [Game of Thrones Prequel Series]
I thought this was a very good start to the series. We got some initial grounding of the characters that will undoubtedly set the stage for what's to come this season from HotD. Though I was initially skeptical, I learnt from watching GoT not to expect too much from season premieres. Wow, I was impressed by this series premiere, as it introduced its characters, plot, and tone quite well. I mean, you can't hit the fans with an opening dud after that S8 fiasco lol... The production value was amazing, the acting was top-notch, and the writing was decent. I felt the pacing was a bit fast but not to the extent where it felt rushed. And great cast IMO... Paddy Considine, Graham McTavish, Olivia Cooke, and Rhys Ifans, to name a few. Young lead Milly Alcock does very well in what could have been an overwhelming role for her. I’m looking forward to seeing what more she can do moving forward. Paddy Considine was solid and really shined, especially when things started to escalate. Matt Smith, who to many will be the most notable name, finally gets to lead in a big role. There’s a lot of potential with this cast which will continue to grow with time. Personally, I thought the GoT pilot was a bit bland as well, and took some time for the characters to be fully established and fleshed out. Most of what made the first four seasons so damn good were the dialogue, scheming, and politics. We'll probably only be able to properly judge the quality of this season/series in a couple of more weeks (maybe more) when its plot and direction are clearer but, for now, I thought this was a good start to get the ball rolling. Based on what I already know, and the lessons learnt from GoT, I look forward to watching this as the television series it was meant to be, and letting the board pieces fall where they may.

Re: House of the Dragon [Game of Thrones Prequel Series]
There will definitely be miles of blood to go along with the fire. I counted at least five characters that will probably be dead by the time we reach the fourth episode. Interesting read here... https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/h … e-daenerys

Re: House of the Dragon [Game of Thrones Prequel Series]
Already renewed for s2 based off the strong premiere numbers. Seems like an odd move not to wait for some retention data given the recent goings on with the company, but maybe they just needed a break from the cancellation grind.

Re: House of the Dragon [Game of Thrones Prequel Series]
That intro theme music really takes me back to the days when GoT was great, I'm glad they decided to use it for this series as well. I'm quite enjoying this series so far. To think I almost skipped it because of how terrible the last 1-2 season of GoT was. Does anyone know how many books Martin has written in this particular series? The shows seem great as long as they have his work to follow.
