Where did you get that number from? I don't think shows follow a set number of episodes for a season. UK shows have 6 episodes a season, and have done for quite a while. 10 seems to be the norm now for a lot of shows.
I don't think it's that cut and dry. I've watched UK shows with 3, 4, 6, 8 or even more eps per seasons (or series as we call them). US shows generally have at least 8, but often more than 10. It depends on what you're watching I guess.
2020. Meh.

The average number of episodes of American Network television has historically been between 20-24 episodes per season. I'm Canadian, and I'd never use Canadian television seasons as a standard for American television seasons, likewise, you shouldn't be using British standards for American TV. 24: 24 episodes https://next-episode.net/24/season-1 The Rookie: 20 episodes https://next-episode.net/the-rookie/season-1 New Amsterdam: 22 episodes https://next-episode.net/new-amsterdam-2018/season-1 Grey's Anatomy: -20 in season 18 https://next-episode.net/greys-anatomy/season-18 -27 in season 2 https://next-episode.net/greys-anatomy/season-2 ...got plenty more examples... It depends on the network's budget, and story the writers and producers are trying to tell, but if I'm to be fair to SyFy Network (NBC Universal) productions, the closest show like Resident Alien would be Eureka, as they're both scifi shows on the same network and filmed in Ladysmith BC (and lower mainland), and Eureka ranged between 13 and 20 episodes in a season. American shows do follow a set number of episodes per year, and 20 episodes is also a number that follows the school year and says, "We're going to start our show in October, and end it in April. You're welcome. " It used to be that during pilot season and march madness, shows have a few episodes for season 1, like Seinfeld and The Office, and after they are tested and succeed, they get picked up and get a big budget and are fleshed out to 20-24 episodes per season to fill the time slot. Now with streaming, that system isn't as competitive or relevant. "Well an African swallow maybe, but not a European swallow, that's my point!" ~ Thanks Wizard. There's also: Coronation Street: https://next-episode.net/coronation-street/season-63 Eastenders: https://next-episode.net/eastenders/season-38 ...which are the exact opposite with a pile of episodes, but again, not comparing like with like.

Thank god it's back, the funniest show in a long time. ▼Spoiler When the sheriff catches the deputy in the closet sending a vid on her phone and tells her she needs a better light that makes her skin look better like one of those flesh lights

... ya ya , and then Liv says... ▼Spoiler Liv: "This is personal time. I had to go to the bathroom, so I'm counting this as a bathroom break, and I'm just going to hold it double long." Sheriff: "Well that logic checks out. So longs you don't go to the bathroom again until you would've gone to the bathroom if you were going to the bathroom now, and when you do go to the bathroom then, you gotta go twice as fast." Liv: "Of course, ya that makes sense." Sheriff: "Aight look at that, we worked that out." Hahaha, so funny.

There's still some laughs but I often fast forward past Asti and her convos with her crying girl pals. Season 2 went full woke woe-is-me chick crying bullshit. "It's so hard being a woman." That's not why we're here, bishes. We're here for alien guy escapades and cultural clangers. Instead now we get huge stretches of crushingly boring television following these dull women around town while they have a cry about how their lives didnt turn out how they waaaaaaaanted. There's at least 5 of these women characters. Meanwhile, the alien guy is reduced to a sort of bit part backdrop. FFS. NOT WHY WE'RE HERE. I expect the season 2 reviews for this are savage, especially after the wildly fun first half of season 1. No way in hell would anyone watch this shitty soapie now if not for the alien guy. It's just a gaggle of chicks having an estrogen cry about their sad lives. NOT sci-fi. NOT a comedy. NOT a sci-fi comedy FFS. I'm guessing the entire writing team from Season 1 were replaced by LGBTQ latte warrior campus safe-spacers cos thats how it plays out on the screen.

Yeah, something happened in S02 which made the quality drop a lot. I think some of it also was the over the top retardness acting by the alien. Like if someone said: "I love what you are doing Alan, just push it up a notch or 10" Which made it less believable, I dont remember it was so extreme in s01. Some of the best moments in the series is the Alien reflecting on the culture clash.

Yeah the alien wading in and putting his foot in it with extreme cultural inappropriateness is the best part of the whole thing. Of course, if he kept in proper character he'd be blurting out crap to Asti like "why is the upper half of your human form in correct proportion yet your lower half is all bloated and fat? What have you done to yourself, humanoid?" But of course he doesnt because such honest comments are politically incorrect. He can't read the air....... yet somehow magically can when it suits the wokeverse.

Re: Resident Alien [Comedy, Drama, Mystery]
Ploughed thru to the end of this, the alien fella went out in a blaze of daft funny one-liners. The only way to negotiate through it though was to skip ALL scenes involving:
Asti talking to anyone except the alien Darcy talking to anyone except the alien Any scenes with the girls all having a cry about this and that in their woebegotten lives
Just gimme the scenes with the alien, the dotty sherriff, and the 2 little kids. The other scenes seemed like they were shoehorned in from a completely different show and, plotwise, had NOTHING to do with the Resident Alien

I'm guessing Sesame Street knocks you out for a couple of hours cuz those communities with more than straight white people are "quite exhausting".

Re: Resident Alien [Comedy, Drama, Mystery]
You do know there are gay people in society so why wouldn't they be on tv programs? This sounds too much like when white people complained about black people being on tv years ago. I love the show and all the beings it has in it. You do not seem disturbed by the aliens, but gay people bother you? Geesh!

I think you missed my point, totally. I'm not bothered with gay people. It was just soo forced, that the happy couple was gay. And the way she (the aunt) announced them. As if they made the newly weds gay just to please the gay community. All ethnicities, sexual orientations must be included on everything... just to avoid stepping on a sore toe... Tell me that isn't true nowadays. In tv/movies I mean. Again, not bothered with gays, but I have to admit I'm a little concerned about the woke society. Everyone so easily offended.

The straight white man is the devil, I know! :P Eh... I enjoy a series with aliens, a black sheriff, a muslim girl with hijab and with half the cast of native americans... And now a happy gay couple. Come on... you didn't get my point. I just think it's forced. When they announced the gay couple, I thought it was enough. I find it too obvious that it's made like this nowadays to avoid criticism for leaving someone out.. and for me it's a bit "exhausting". (maybe not the best word, but...)

Please lets not turn another thread into this degeneracy just because you saw a gay couple. They had like 10 seconds of screen time, please try and relax. You already made 3 comments about it saying how you're not offended by it, but...

Dropped the show midway through ep1s3. For me it's charm is long gone. Really liked the first season, but it went downhill from there sadly.

I was not offended by anything, and I wanted to defend that. Again, just think this woke-stuff has gone too far. Everyone must be included, everytime and everywhere, all the time... Say what you like, but I find it forced and somewhat exhausting (for lack of a better word) A lot of my friends have also mentioned this several times. With the gay couple in that episode, I reacted on the bad acted and overenthusiastic introduction of them. Like "HI!! We also include a gay couple in this series." I'm done now... Promise I will not mention it anymore. Go back to your wokeness and live a happy life

For a surprisingly reflected take on this, considering the source, watch South Park season 19 episode 1. Also some of the following ones if you feel like it. Point is: you trying to point this out cannot possibly benefit anyone who actually needs it. But it can, very easily, directly or at least indirectly harm people. That's why most of us gave up on it long ago. It's just a net loss for everyone. Resident Alien: Syfy is, once again, dragging their feet in international markets. Even the ones where a branch of the channel actually exists. Now, I wonder once again, why could piracy be a thing? Ffs...
