Yeah, I'm noticing it again and again in this show. Many shows have become so high quality that every time a scene somewhere else is only good instead of perfect, I can't help but notice it. Still a good show though.

eps 5. At the start I was a bit disappointed that the back clothe story of the ancient relics was just that and not the story and groaned when it looked as if this would be some kind of woke trans thing we have been assaulted by in the other shows. As it turned out it nicely avoided coming down on one side or the other. Both sides of the debate could claim a voice. agile footwork

I think you can keep wondering for a looong time...
...where did I put that rat's ass I could give?
Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves.

Re: The Orville
A great follow-up to an earlier episode that was also nicely done. A Tale of Two Topas was a beautifully crafted, well-written episode with depth that gave the topic time to be laid out before the viewer and made the antagonists comprehensible, instead of monsters (well, mostly lol). Probably the best episode I've seen so far this season, including all the previous seasons. This is truly what I loved about classic Star Trek; using an emphasis on cultural differences between different alien races to provoke thought, challenge norms, ideas, and executing it all without smacking the viewer in the face—The question posed in this episode is "what would you do"? Almost reminds me of Star Trek: TNG The Measure of a Man.

Re: The Orville
I'm very happy with the way the Orville is going. I'm pretty sure that at first, Seth had to sell it as a "kind of" parody of Trek, where he wanted to make his own trek like universe. There were already some pretty serious episodes during the first two seasons, but now it has come into its own. Some of the resolutions are very awkward, but they are intended to be! I think he really found back the "moral dilemma" stories that made some of TNG enjoyable. I also like that he manged to give us a whole menagerie of aliens that are wildly different from the Startrek ones. No Klingons, or Borgs, or anything like that, but Krills, Keylons, or Mesclun (whatever the spelling may be) are rather interesting species so far.

I watch with subtitles because i am hearing impaired and according to subtitles it is spelled "moclans." Also they spell kaylons with a, but you got krills absolutely right.

Re: The Orville
Wow... Ep 6 was a very good [kinda effed up] riff on the tropes from classic Eps like Children Of Time and I loved it! Also loved seeing Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl/How I Met Your Father) on the show again [another call back], she's always great. And this was a rather interesting twist on things after the events in the eleventh Ep of second season, Lasting Impressions... ----- BTW I recently read that Seth MacFarlane is planning to adapted a scrapped script for this season into a novella. It's called Sympathy for the Devil and it is to be "a standalone story that is set following the events of S3 Ep 8" which sounds cool

Re: The Orville
well eps 6 was another good eps. The ginger funny man given a gut wrenching job here and Captain Ed Mercer and co have to read the riot act in a way we have so far not seen. A quite upsetting eps. ▼Spoiler To be told that we are going back in time 10 years such that you never get it off with your wife and your kids never get born, that the last 10 years will never happen

Wowzers Ep 7, From Unknown Graves, was just excellent and it even brought back the humor everyone, save myself, seemed to miss... on top of which I actually laughed at the humor in this Ep a few times (unlike in previous seasons).

I think it got the balance spot on between the drama and the comedy. This really is a great show.

Re: The Orville
The Orville has been knocking it out of the ballpark all season long. Even the weakest episode got an unbelievably dismal rating of 8 from me. Everything else has been 8.5 and up from me so far this season. The final scene of Ep. 7 was a tad bit too much, but overall not bad. Personally, I could do without the over-the-top humor, but I welcome the subtle humor. The funniest person for me in this episode was Bortus, with his subtle facial expressions and one-liners. Usually, it's Isaac that's a barrel of laughs because he's, well, Isaac! This is the best season of the series so far for me. I don't see this season taking a sharp turn for the worst and tumbling off a cliff over the next three episodes. At least I hope not. ▼Spoiler I liked that we got to see the history of the Kaylon. Yeah, we already knew about all of this but finally seeing it was great. It might be a common theme in sci-fi, the creation overthrowing its master, but when you witness the treatment of K1 you actually find more than a shred of understanding. I was surprised that they showed the killing of the children. Most shows wouldn't even dare go there. We also delve again into the relationship between Claire and Isaac. It felt convenient to introduce another Kaylon with emotions and that we can just copy/paste those emotions onto Isaac, but the scene between him and Claire was nothing short of amazing. Mark Jackson is such a terrific actor that it's a shame he has to hide his face behind the helmet most of the time. How he switched from an emotional state to full-blown Kaylon in an instant was breathtaking. It also gave us another great moment when he offered, for all intents and purposes, his life out of love for Claire. That's the definition of true love, and for the same reasons, Claire rejects his offer. These are the type of stories and moments between characters I love seeing intertwined every now and then with my sci-fi.

I finally caved and started watching. Still only up to episode 4 of series 1 but I’m quite enjoying so far. I’m glad to hear people are still enjoying it.

But they didn't show it as fully as killing the parents. Even more daring would have been to show the killing of toddlers, who did not take part in the cruel K1 treatment.

▼Spoiler Toddlers? Did you even watch the episode? Most shows don't even go that far, which is kind of the point, since you would be setting yourself up for cancellation and much worst with anything further. Do you need to see the charred hole in their heads for clarification?

▼Spoiler I just meant that killing toddlers would necessarily be part of their plan... killing everyone alive. But distasteful details like this are rarely shown in TV shows.

Maybe you need to go watch something that's rated MA or unrated.

Re: The Orville
@TheFizza Thanks. That was an interesting read. Moze wrote:I really do enjoy the show and this season, but I wish they could stop repeating the same topics and issues. Lets hope for something else for the last episodes.
I don't mind them revisiting certain topics and issues as long as it's done extremely well; with possible future seasons on the horizon involving new planets or meeting significant new alien species. It almost feels like they're tying up loose ends in case the show doesn't get renewed. My only gripe with this episode is that I wish it came at a later time. Maybe at some point next season? But with a fourth season still unconfirmed, and all but given, I think they wanted to set a few things straight. This is the first instance for me where the show begins to drag somewhat. ▼Spoiler It's certainly an important moment for Topa, but the time she spends having dinner with the colony, speaking with Heveena, and chasing the Luminites into the forest almost felt like an entire episode on its own. Since the relationship with the Moclans has been severed, it puts everyone at a disadvantage if the Kaylon decides to attack. Maybe opening the door for a future unforeseen ally? Everything really picks up at around the time when Gordon calls out the Moclans for what they are. What follows are some powerful scenes when Bortus addresses the Council. Those were some hard-to-swallow scenes seeing Topa being tortured, and MacFarlane once again showing us he's not shy about going there if it helps advance the plot. BTW, kudos to Imani Pullum for her spectacular performance. Ed Mercer is a mastermind when it comes to dealing with people. Placing Heveena in the exact same situation as she did Topa was just brilliantly unexpected considering the cameo appearance. Dolly helped steer her along as only Dolly could, but Heveena was also smart enough to see the subtext of the entire situation. Well done Dolly, and Ed. I'm also glad Klyden—played by Chad L. Coleman, aka Fred Johnson—is back, and even happier seeing him have a change of heart towards his daughter and Kelly. Almost losing a child can change one's perspective. Like I said earlier, all of this might've worked out even better at some point in the future, but who knows if there is one for the show? Now, with Klyden back, that hinted thing between Bortus and Kelly makes even less sense. And I don't care what anyone says, the Moclan shuttle still looks like a late '90s computer mouse lols. Who knows? Maybe all of this will lead to a double feature extravaganza for the ages involving the Moclans and Kaylons or Krill to cap off a near-perfect season? How about those establishing shots of Heveena's islands and that scene of the Orville coming out of the nebula. Sheesh... My hands down favorite hilarious moment so far this season is Gordon's face going from no clue to getting it. "Good job, Sherlock."
