Never tried the game, is the story good enough that a TV show could be amazing?

I guess you can turn almost anything into a show worth watching! (With enough money and the right people.)

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]
(From my initial post.) I never really paid much attention to the story in the games, to be honest. I always thought a straight reading of the plot would land like broad humor, thus Red vs. Blue! All I can say about this upcoming show on Paramount+ is, give me as much fan service as I can handle, and Assault on the Control Room had better be perfect!

I trust Paramount+ to deliver at least a good show, not some cheap stuff. Not having played the game means I won't miss anything from it.

The trailer for the show looks so serious, yet the game was so silly with Killamanjaro's, Killtacular's, Killtrocities, Killtastrophies, Killpocalypses, Killionaires, and Running Riots, not to mention tea-bags from yours truly, that I imagine if the show isn't good it'll at least be fun for wisecracks and heckling.

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]
And here's the show's budget and lots of other interesting info! After 17 Years and 265 Scripts, Microsoft Finally Turns 'Halo' Into a $90M TV Show on Paramount+ https://games.slashdot.org/story/22/03/ … -paramount Variety takes a long look at Halo, the new nine-episode TV show on Paramount+ adapting "Microsoft's crown jewel Xbox franchise": When the show premieres on March 24, it will be the culmination of 17 years of false starts and dogged striving, including a Peter Jackson-produced feature film that fell apart in the 2000s, more than six years of development by Amblin Television in the 2010s, and a pandemic-split production in Hungary for the nine-episode first season that lasted nearly two years.... On June 6, 2005, in a stunt that instantly became the stuff of Hollywood legend, Microsoft sent a small platoon of actors dressed in full Master Chief armor to the major film studios (other than Sony Pictures [because of its PlayStation division's competition with Microsoft], naturally). They were armed with a "Halo" screenplay written by Alex Garland and take-it-or-leave-it deal terms heavily weighted in the company's favor. The result was a movie co-financed by Universal and 20th Century Fox and produced by Peter Jackson, who hired up-and-coming director Neill Blomkamp to make his feature debut with the film. According to Jamie Russell's book "Generation Xbox: How Video Games Invaded Hollywood," Microsoft was an uneasy and at times overbearing creative partner, and the project ultimately fell apart in October 2006. (Blomkamp and Jackson instead made 2009's "District 9," which was nominated for four Oscars, including best picture.) By 2011, Microsoft had parted ways with Halo's original developer, Bungie, and created an in-house studio, 343 Industries, to keep the franchise alive. As part of that effort, veteran Microsoft executive Kiki Wolfkill began exploring anew how to expand the game into a live-action adaptation — or, in Wolfkill's words, "linear entertainment...." Don Mattrick, then the head of Microsoft's Xbox unit, called his friend Steven Spielberg, himself a passionate gamer and a Halo fan. Soon after, 343's executives found themselves pitching Amblin Television presidents Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. "They asked for permission to get in before we came into the room, and they covered a large conference table with the canon of Halo," says Falvey. That canon — a vast science fiction saga that spans hundreds of millennia and involves ancient aliens who created colossal, ring-shaped structures called the Halo Array — comes as much from dozens of tie-in novels, comic books and exhaustive guides and encyclopedias as from the games themselves. "It was aisles deep," Falvey recalls. "It was incredible." Everyone who spoke with Variety, actually, cited Halo's expansive mythology as the factor that differentiated the series from other video game fare and made it so attractive as source material for event-size television.... [W]hen Kyle Killen ("Lone Star") came on board as showrunner in 2018, he hit upon a shrewd narrative path that embraces the video game DNA: Master Chief starts as a complete cypher, engineered to be so devoid of individuality that he literally has no sense of taste, and the rest of the season slowly fills out the void. "We're going to tell a story about a man discovering his own humanity," says Kane, who joined the show as co-showrunner in 2019. "In so doing, he's invited the audience to discover that guy's humanity too." Eventually, Levine says, "we got the script to the place where we said, 'You know, this is a deep dive into character. What are the costs of turning human beings into killing machines...?'" Kane estimates he wrote upwards of 265 drafts of the first nine episodes, balancing everything from the needs of the expansive production to story notes from 343 and Spielberg to the desire to fold in as much from the Halo mythology as possible.

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]
I have a feeling this is going to be a dumpster fire for people that are actual fans of the game. You know, the potential audience... https://boundingintocomics.com/2022/03/ … the-world/ How can you develop a TV series based on a game and not even look at the game while developing it? Also "Interestingly, the Halo show has already been confirmed to not take place in the same timeline as the games. In a blog post several weeks ago, the Halo show's creative team explained that the show would take place in the newly created "Silver Timeline" I've also read somewhere that it focuses more on the diverse "co-star" than Masterchief.... Now its entirely possible its still good, I just don't think (for a lot of people)its going to be "Halo".

I have no sense of the games' story so just watching fresh. First ep seemed like a sci-fi cliche bingo card so I'm tapping out.

And a cheap one at that. Tapped out after the first ep, too. What a waste.

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]
Giving it a few more episodes because I like the games but otherwise it had so little going for it. ▼Spoiler Why the hell did elites look like Krogan Why did Spartans damage elites but the rebels couldn't with the same freaking weapons The wider shots of Spartans moving around were really really crappy (especially that one scene with Master Chief jumping on car

While it wasn't as awesome as I had hoped, I still enjoyed watching 1x1! The flaws didn't bother me that much.

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]
S1x01 , " Contact " , Halo hits the ground runn'in. LOVED IT !
REAL SciFi space junkies are gonna eat this one up. The attention to set-details are out of this world. Love how powerful the Spartans move around thru the scenes. And the appearance of the Covenant High Command Priest was just creeeeepy. Now ofcourse I know the "gaming community" will nick-pick every detail that doesn't fall exactly under cannon, while they sit there flaming at every episode I've already read comments from other tv viewing sites,, good lord,, talk about "triggered". BIG REVEAL:
▼Spoiler Pablo Schreiber,, aka Mad Sweeney, the Leprechaun from American Gods,, LOL, I think I giggled a bit,, great casting as Master Chief. Should have put his helmet back on thou, after the reveal for Kwan Ha,, but I guess it would have blocked his connection to the artifact. Really looking forward to this,, hope the energy will continue to be set on 11.

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]
As someone who watched their son play, and tried the game for all of 10 mins before giving up (I'm a Dara O'Brien style of player) I enjoyed the first episode. I mean what's not to like big badass men? in armour shooting the crap out of bigger alien creatures in armour with bigger, badder weapons and a storyline to try and link it together. I suppose hardliner gamers might object to none cannon etc, but as a tv show, it's pretty good IMHO

The thing is though, it's based on Halo, the computer game series. So surely it should follow the rules and specs laid down in the game universe? If not, ok, just make the same TV series and call it something else. It's almost as if they bring out TV series named after computer games etc., that have very tenuous links when you actually watch them, because they have more chance of being made, get more hype, etc. etc.
2020. Meh.

Yes, at least to some extent. Does it fail to do so?

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]
I've never played the game, but I think this is good sci-fi so I like it. I think games are there to basically be played to nuke everyone you can with, as far as I know, no history of the people in it (unless it's in some text at the start of the game). In the TV show you have to introduce the characters and follow them as they interact with each other, then nuke everyone you can!

I never played the game either and liked it, not amazing by any means but entertaining and watchable which is more than I can say for a heck of a lot of shows recently.

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]
All rise for the gamer national anthem, click here... As an OG Halo:Combat Evolved gamer, there were almost enough kills in 101 to keep my attention. I give it a: Killtrocity / 10. (That's like a 6/10) I could be persuaded to give it a Killimanjaro / 10 (7/10), because the look of everything is very accurate. The story though, meh, more like a Killdiculous / 10. FYI: Double Kill would be a 2/10, triple kill would be a 3/10. etc https://halo.fandom.com/wiki/Medals

...how would you rate the new Halo TV series based on the following: 1/10 = Screen cheating bastard melee attacking your own guy in the back of the head and claiming "you thought they were covenant". 2/10 = Double Kill 3/10 = Triple Kill 4/10 = Overkill 5/10 = Killtacular 6/10 = Killtrocity 7/10 = Killimanjaro 8/10 = Killtastrophe 9/10 = Killpocalypse 10/10 = Killionaire Let me know...
