Topic: Eternals
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9032400/ Just watched this. It started off bad as a very woke Marvel film they covered all the angles for diversity - male/female, old/young, Black/white/Mexican/Oriental, disabled ( mute & deaf?) no trans or gays though. By the end it became a rather good new storyline and looks like Marvel plans continuation.

Re: Eternals
I liked it ok, just found it incredibly slow, even at the 2.5x speed I watched it at. It's like Hollywood's forgotten how to edit. ▼Spoiler I'm wondering if the stuff with the Titan branch of Eternals will pay off in GotG 3 or if they actually plan an Eternals 2.

Re: Eternals
Eternals is a 6.5/10. I liked it probably better than The Avengers Endgame. Yes, it's diversity heavy, filled with white hate (Ikarus and Thena), but it worked for me and I was fine with that, and at the end post credit scene, I kinda wanted to watch more. There's definitely a gay character, it's just been edited out in some countries merc. Karun Patel the cameraman was amazing, some solid laughs from him and Kumail throughout. Rotten Tomatoes reviews are scathing. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/eternals

Re: Eternals
Wait, they edited out a whole husband and kid? That had to make for some weird dialogue given all the things he said about only doing it for his family, etc.

Yep, that's what I think merc is talking about. That version must be really well edited.

Re: Eternals
As soon as I saw Kumail Nanjiani on screen I said, oh look he's the comic relief for this one. Not bashing him, I liked some of the stuff he has been in, but it was just obvious. Overall it was just OK. I agree with paisley1 that 6.5/10 is about right.

Re: Eternals
Wow, what a disappointing movie. It made me hardly care about the characters, it all didn't fully come together for me. Some of the CGI was good, some of the fights too, but it all felt a bit too simplistic. 5/10 TheFizza wrote:Loved ETERNALS it was my most favorite MCU movie this year
Well, that's not hard, given that this year is only 2 weeks old.

The ageism is strong with you. Other than that: I try to avoid movies with her, I don't think she's a great actress and I don't like her personality (I can't fully separate art from artist), but that's a bit off-topic. Eternals shows, once again, that not every actor can shine in every role/ show/ movie. For example: I loved Richard Madden in https://next-episode.net/bodyguard - but here? Not so much... P.S.: merc, when you quote something, please edit down the quoted text. I have no idea what you were meaning to quote exactly when you replied.

She only had a bit part anyway - very few lines or acting.

I've read enough of these forums that I refuse to believe the median age isn't 206.

How can you enjoy anything at 2.5x speed? I listen to news at 1.4x or 1.5x, but would never watch something at that speed. For me, wanting to increase playback speed significantly is a sign that I should consider to stop watching at all (and switch to something better).

Re: Eternals
Your brain speeds up with it so it's still the same experience, just faster. I do 2x even for things I like. If something's particularly slow I up it accordingly. As to stopping watching, certain things I'm compelled to watch for whatever reason. If I'm not compelled and something stinks I'll just turn it off instead of upping the speed. Eternals I didn't dislike, so I wouldn't have dumped it even without the compulsion.

I tried to watch this, I have a hour left. But I just don't have the energy to finish it today. I just don't get the story...
...where did I put that rat's ass I could give?
Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves.

Re: Eternals
it actually gets better to wards the end when we understand what is really going on. But I do not really want to see any of the eternals ever again, none have any real charisma unlike Hailee Steinfeld in Hawkeye, they are not a good replacement for the old guard of iron man and capt america etc

Re: Eternals
Well we thought that it totally sucked. Angelina played herself quite well. Gemma was as pretty as usual. Selma must have been on something, none of her usual pep and vim. It was totally flat, flatter than a set Ikea shelves in their Flattown depot (and more wooden). More exposition than the Guggenheim, more flashbacks than a bad trip and lots of standing/arriving in a wedge formation. 4/10

Re: Eternals
I'm not really sure why you moved a discussion of this movie to a place that is not this movie... while I apricate you might want to talk about the MCU in general or whatnot, I would prefer to talk about Eternals
