Funny, I was thinking the same thing while watching it.  It's good stuff, and they could keep it running.  But should they?  Give the fans the ending it should have had the first time around and then stop?  Part of me thinks so.

The problem with the original series was that it should have never gone past five seasons IMO. The last three seasons just floundered in a sea of bizarreness, and then of course there's that ending lolz. I agree, if they used up all of their rope, then let's end it properly, but based on the summary of the season finale, they could possibly get one more season out of this? There's still more to come, and that also depends on how the remaining episodes pan out. And how they will be received by the fans.

Re: Dexter: New Blood

Why the hell do you bother rebooting the series

Spoiler

only to just kill him off

.

After a slow start I really got into the series and enjoyed it up until the last episode.

I guess it was a better send off that the original finale?

I was very disappointed with the ending. I was hoping to see a new run of Dexter with more seasons. Shame because I really loved this show and sad to see it go… again.

Re: Dexter: New Blood

Spoiler

The ending would have worked better in the original run. It was almost done because thats what everyone said should have been the original ending. While here it would have been better if he or he and Harrison went on the run and he was killed/died in a second season on the run

I actually liked the original ending, it left it open for possible reboots.  The ending of this show is also possibly left open.  We'll have to see if we get another season of this one.

I think the only way a second season would work was if Dexter appeared to Harrison in the same way his Dad or Deborah did to Dexter.

But personally for me, I hope that's it.

Re: Dexter: New Blood

I'm so happy we got a 9th season (not 9th season) it's been so great seeing Dexter back in action. I didn't like the ending of this season any more than I liked the ending of the last one, but I'm just thankful we got more Dexter.

Spoiler

With that being said, if they do a second season or any number of seasons after this, the truth is that I can't be bothered to watch a show with just Harrison in it. It would be like watching an origin story of a copycat killer, even if Dexter comes back as his ghost dad. I just don't think it would make any sense. Harrison isn't a killer he never even really showed any signs of wanting to kill, he only ever hurt people. (He claimed to have killed a guy once, but there was no way to verify that it actually happened, not even a flashback)

How I hope a second season works is if Dexter is still alive because of being in the cold and having emergency crews on site so quickly. (It also looks like the bullet went right through him) But even if that happens that puts Dexter in front of both Angel Batista and Angela Bishop facing down the death penalty as the Bay Harbor Butcher, and Harrison now on the run (likely to somewhere he knows like Florida) only to learn that his father is still alive from I'm guessing the news of Dexter's extradition to Florida.

The real question I have right now is: Was Harrison just pretending to have his dark passenger this whole time just so that he could get close to Dexter and form a father son bond? Or does he in fact have the dark passenger but the shocking truth of Dexter killing Logan has spoiled the milk for Harrison and now he wants to reject being like his father?

Also has Dexter ever intentionally killed an innocent person? I can't remember that happening ever. I don't think he has, I think this is the first time Dexter intentionally broke the code in such a way, and that's what I didn't like, it was like seeing Batman shoot a guy down with an AK, it just didn't fit. Anyway what do you peeps think?

The dumbest potential ending imaginable. At least the white cis blogger got her box. 5/10

imo they can skip making S02 of this, who wants to watch this show with that crybaby? That would be even more pathetic than The Walking Dead: World Beyond

Re: Dexter: New Blood

Spoiler

It's definitely a controversial ending that will spark debates for years to come lolz...but I absolutely loved it. I rate this season a solid 6/10, with an enjoyment factor of 8/10. The finale, on the other hand, I have rated 3/10, but as I stated earlier, I loved it. I couldn't have envisioned Dexter "ending" any other way. It was never going to be a happily-ever-after-ending for Dexter Morgan.

The writing was lazy and sloppy at times, and there were no likable characters for me with the exception of maybe Coach Logan and Angela (at times), and that's being very generous. Most of the characters just felt like side pieces conveniently orbiting around Dex and Harrison. Dex made some monumental mistakes too, that I just don't see old Dex committing, ever. I understood he was rusty due to the long layoff, but we're talking about a former forensic tech, part-time serial killer, with well over a hundred kills. Some things just don't rust lol. The big bad antagonist Kurt Caldwell was formidable, but not in the same vicinity of zip codes compared to Trinity, Doakes (I love that guy lol), Sirko, or even ADA Prado to name a few.

I agree with bamuel that this ending would've worked better in the original run. This finale, for the most part, just felt inorganic IMO. AFAIC, it would've been more plausible if Harrison decided to no longer be a part of Dexter's life and let him go off on his own; maybe shooting him in the leg as a big F-U. The writers didn't convince me that Harrison cared that strongly about Coach to the extent that he would kill his dad over his murder. I get Harrison had a lot of bottled-up aggression, doubts, and concerns in light of Dex's dark passenger revelation. I get Dex broke the code and killed an innocent man, a friend, and a good person, but it still felt inorganic with its approach and execution.

But it provided closure and that's satisfying enough for me. As far as I'm concerned, this closes the book on Dexter Morgan. Clyde Phillips has confirmed that Dexter Morgan is truly dead. Some fans actually think that Jack Alcott's character isn't really Harrison and that he killed the real Harrison. Either way, I don't care to see Dex as a dark figment of Harrison's imagination. I don't care if Showtime gives a green light for a second, third, and fourth season. I have zero interest in watching the Dexter Cinematic Universe with Harrison as the lead. I don't even like his character lolz...

I can see it now... Harrison Morgan: First Blood lol

@bellatrix1984

Spoiler

Yeah Dexter has actually killed an innocent before. At least a bystander, can't speak for the persons character. I forget the season now, but I think its when he's locked up Doakes in season 2 and he's in a gas station bathroom and he's frustrated and the guy basically pushes his buttons and he cracks him over the head if im remembering correctly, so he has let his emotions take over before

Re: Dexter: New Blood

I don't agree with the whole "Dexter wouldn't kill innocents" thing.

People seem to forget he's a serial killer!  Of course he kills innocents!  Yes, he has "the code", but when he's backed into a corner of course he's going to kill people to hide who he is - he's a serial killer.  Once more, with feeling, he's a serial killer.

2020.  Meh.

Re: Dexter: New Blood

Yeah Dexter would absolutely kill if he had to. He only left Paul alive, but in prison, because he didn't want to put that on Rita and the kids and in turn on him and what he had with having them all.

I was waiting for the shoe to drop this season and find out Harrison poisoned Hannah and it wasn't cancer at all. I was so sure that was going to come out.

Re: Dexter: New Blood

Yep, without The Code, Dexter most likely would've been either incarcerated, killed, or both, a long time ago. And there would be A LOT more plastic sheeting left at Home Depot. lol

nightcrow wrote:

Yes, and no...

Spoiler

Dexter didn’t technically kill Doakes; it was done by proxy due to a blaze set by Lila. Dexter did kidnap Doakes and locked him in the cabin, so he's just as guilty in my book. Would he have killed Doakes if Lila hadn’t blown the cabin up? Most likely because Doakes posed the biggest threat even to this day, and would have eventually been The Snap, and end, of Dexter Morgan. Dexter has killed all sorts throughout his career that didn't exactly fit Harry's code.

Also

Spoiler

that ketamine angle assumes that a guy who has killed 100+ people is dumb - he lives in a 9.8 million km² country and gets caught by cop who was not able to see bodies raining around her for years by purchasing ketamine in a local pharmacy? His tools include plastic wrapping, tape, knives and a drug - he really never thought about these components, right? And also he carefully disposes everything, except 2 completely useless incriminating titanium screws - makes perfect sense smile Btw fact checked, titanium melting point really is higher than a burning house.

Plus how come Henry had a sudden 180 in his logic, one moment he is a law abiding citizen, the next, nope, you should not go to jail for murder, attempted murder and an accessory to murder big_smile And that "I'm angry at YOU, daddy" - that's why I carry razor and execute premeditated assaults with a great bodily harm and break arms of people

On the other hand there were woke injections, so stupid people were involved in making of this show and maybe writers were forced into this as it is with many other shows. Like "make it so white cis man bad and die". Because why else we needed to hear that idiotic line twice.

In rural areas quite likely. If that whole country has/had oxycodone epidemic which is a serious narcotic, you can most likely also get ketamine with the same effort. Or just get oxycodone prescription and exchange for ketamine. Do whatever, except sign your name under it's purchase big_smile

Re: Dexter: New Blood

Totally sloppy writing. Totally ridiculous ending.

His actions were completely out of character. None of it made any sense. Almost like he was having a 'dream'.

It appears to be a theme these days, to finish a series with the absolute worst ending possible.

Perhaps just so that people will talk about it.

Like they do with  ridiculously annoying commercials.

Just another one that leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
