some one here said there are only 6 eps. So I am not sure there is time for some thing like eps 1. We have the Marcos story and the Martian story thru the ring and the ring builders and those who killed them. Thats a lot for 5 eps left

I read somewhere that they set up the final season in a way to allow for a another ('follow-up') show in the future ("Expanded"? cool).

Aside from that, I don't believe we will get a lot more answers regarding the ring builders (and not everything needs to be answered and explained for it to be a good show) - but I hope I'm wrong. smile

Re: The Expanse

I wish i could say i found the first Ep interesting, but unfortunately i can't.

The entire last season was....meh. I thought they would start the new season with something majestic, jaw-dropping, truly awe-inspiring..but they didn't.

I want to know about the rings, who actually built them, who killed them off, and why..scifi! Not some coronation-street-twaddle-in-space.

Sometimes i think i expect too much.

I was hoping it would start with the martian ships being destoryed and us seeing that molecule thing in the sky. All that has been forgotton?

Spoiler

I dont see how that small girl with the bugs is any answer

The last season was meh? With Earth getting hammered back to the stone age from stealth coated rocks? Man, I dunno I thought that was one of the best seasons so far!

Re: The Expanse

Seems to be a split in watchers of the show between the hardcore sci-fi types who like the proto-molecule and alien civilization stuff and those who prefer the intra-system intrigue stuff, with each camp being bored by the other's jam. I'm firmly in the latter camp. Give me an Avasarala and Bobbie spin-off and I'd be happy.

not me  I liked both just that a 6 eps season does not leave much time? That the show had both the chatter and the scifi was what made it good

Well, i suppose you are right...up to a point. My fav series of all time is 'Spartacus'. Which obviously isn't sci-fi.

I wish they'd make a Film/TVseries about one of my fav sci-fi books...'Eon' by Greg Bear.

Now that would be something to see! Are you reading Jeff? smile

Re: The Expanse

sorry eps 3 I think my interest in this show hangs in the balance.

Spoiler

It was a cop out: Holden had an opportunity to kill Marcos and decided capturing him was better but failed, when he saw he could not capture him, to kill him. I dont like shows that manipulate the story in order to justify more eps. Marcos should be dead and so the story move to the proto molecule and the battle between the ancients

I'm not sure if this is a spoiler, but just in case.

Spoiler

If the battle of the ancients or anyhing related to the ring builders are covered in books 7 to 9, you won't see it. Season 6 only covers book 6 to conclude the current story and the novella Strange Dog. There are no plans to adapt the rest so far.

No one is talking about them, but has anyone watched the mini-episodes available under the the name "One Ship"? They are released with each episode and can be found in the bonus content from X-Ray (not available on all devices though).

Re: The Expanse

Enough of the cast and producers have talked about life after this season to give me hope of future seasons r spinoffs.

214

Re: The Expanse

So...2 eps to go, and still, nothing significant. I was going to wait till the end ....but i've just had a large glass of Baileys...

I've seen several great sci-fi series in my time (most of which got cancelled after the first outing...ask me for a list!) and 'The Expanse' in the first few series, promised so much! Providing the wonder and and awe factor i relish.

Yet...unless the last 2 eps deliver pure un-adulterated !!!!!!MAGIC!!!!!!   I'm truly sorry to say...it's another 'meh' from me.

Don't get me wrong..this series is a 'competant' production of 'soap-in-space' ....but....awe-inspriring it is not.

There was a reason why Holden self-destructed the missile.

Spoiler

It wasn't in order to capture Marcos and the rest, it was because as Holden was talking with Marcos, Holden saw come into view on the screen, Filip, Naomi (and Marco's) son. He had only a second, and chose to not make Naomi suffer from killing her son.
This was a lot clearer in the book. I totally agree with you that it was a very unwise thing to do, but he did have that reason.

Just you. wink I like it, but yes, it could have been better so far.

also good that Holden disarmed the warhead, that lil bitch needs to die in a more spectacular death big_smile

not a disaster but the balance between the human politics and the alien has been lost with just lip service to the alien. Thus this is just become the american civil war in space

Re: The Expanse

Imo writers never knew themselves what proto-molecule is and what it does, it was one of the most entangled and less sense making stories ever, so maybe they took a pause of beating that dead horse until they finally come up with something big_smile At some point I even almost dropped this show because of that, so for me civil war works just fine.

Spoiler

Even now, ooh, danger, danger, ships are disappearing. I suspect we will never know how, why, just "magic". Or Holden "felt" that something is "angry" while going through the ring.

Civil war is cool and all, but for me the creation of the ring arc, must be the best sci fi i've ever seen. I had absolutely no clue were it was going the whole time, and it seamlessly came together. It's just a shame they are not focusing more on the ring worlds and the old tech.

I might be biased since Stargate is my fav sci fi.

to your spoiler - Holden drops a hint

Spoiler

that some thing is tryiing to get out. I am afraid you are right. same sort of plot device as Stargate Universe where we are never told what the Ancients who launched the ship were going to discover

I liked some of the Stargate (TV) universe, but it always felt a bit too cheap. How awesome Stargate would be with a bigger budget and tech/ CGI on a level with The Expanse! big_smile

Re: The Expanse

Spoiler

I did not liked that proto-molecule story build up, when all that resulted in the rings, it was finally ok. All these countless hallucinations etc. - if it's some advanced life form and/or civilization, that means it translated basically in Morse code for our monkey brains and if it can make neurons in a brain, why just not tell that brain to kill the host or instruct the host to infect every other host or go on suicide missions or whatever they need. Instead they are "angry" (low level emotion), almost got wiped out and at the same time can rip spacetime. Does not make much sense to me.
