Topic: Curb Your Enthusiasm [Comedy]
https://next-episode.net/curb-your-enthusiasm
As with Seinfeld, which David co-created, the humor of Curb Your Enthusiasm often revolves around the minutiae of American daily social life. Episodes frequently center on Larry's ignorance of or disregard for well-established social conventions and expectations, as well as his insistence that others adhere to rules of which only he seems to be aware. This social ineptitude, combined with his inability to let even the most minor grievance or annoyance go unexpressed, often leads David into awkward social situations and draws the ire of his friends, family, and total strangers. Larry is also routinely the victim of labyrinthine misunderstandings. Each episode's plot and subplot is established in an outline written by David, and the dialogue is largely improvised by the actors (a technique known as retroscripting). The series was developed from a 1999 one-hour special, Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm, which David and HBO originally envisioned as a one-time project. The special was shot as a mockumentary, where the characters were aware of the presence of cameras and a crew. The series as such is not a mockumentary, but is shot in a somewhat similar, cinéma vérité-like style. It airs on HBO, on Sunday night, usually with massive gaps between seasons.

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm [Comedy]
It's currently 3 episodes into season 11, and I can't find an official thread for this show, so I've made one. I watched it last night and I love some of the concepts Larry uncovers about social behaviour. ▼Spoiler You can't middle! You gotta have the right person in the middle of the table to hold the conversation, otherwise it's just boring. Last season, the ugly section in a restaurant, was such an astute observation, my colleagues and I talked about it all day at work. Also, Larry, deciding whether to get on the plane, or keep the coffee, priceless! So many great moments in this show. If you haven't seen it before, it's monotonous repeat viewing to try to marathon to catch up, so I recommend you spread it out a bit if you're new to the show. Larry's just awful if you binge too many seasons. Some key episodes are comedy gold though. Highly recommend.

I'm a big fan. I even bought the first few seasons on DVD as they were released, as it was back in the days when I used to buy DVD's and imported them from the US. We're actually 3 episodes into season 11 now. Some fantastic stuff. Not sure I could binge watch the lot, but so much of it I laugh out loud too. And so much of the way he reacts to things I can relate to, and then I feel ashamed of myself!
2020. Meh.

Thanks for pointing that out, I'll correct it to season 11. Years ago, I binged the first 4 seasons. Too much Larry all at once, it's better week to week. I love the long leash that HBO gives Larry David to make seasons, it's sort of 'at his leisure', like, there's years that will go by without a season and you'll think Curb is cancelled, like between season 8 and 9, and then he'll come out with a new season, lolz. The length of episodes, structure of seasons, and retroscripting approach to the show, are all completely unique to television. Any favorite episodes? I remember the golfing episode with Ted Danson was one of my favorites, I forget which season that was already. Season 10 was definitely my favorite season though, it was so good, it was up for an Emmy for best comedy, much like the early seasons. Seasons 1-5 are really good. Seasons 6-9 are weaker. Seasons 10 and 11 are amazing.

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm [Comedy]
Had thought this season was middling so far but ep 4 was an instant classic.

Ya, 1104, I was laughing throughout, but the first 5 minutes were a bit painful to get through, Larry back to his toxic self stuff. I preferred the first 3 eps, tbh. However... ▼Spoiler The Clansman and the horn at the end, priceless, how they weaved that together....great storytelling. Totally agree with Larry that acceptance speeches shouldn't be political, like this painful diatribe by Jaoquin Pheonix; they should be fun. I love that Larry hung a lantern on how pandering to people makes you out to be a liar and can backfire; it also made Woody Harrelson intolerable, pretty funny.

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm [Comedy]
1105 felt exactly like the early stuff from years ago. Love the Julie Bowen cameo. ▼Spoiler The traffic in LA/California, hiding your secret route, reminded me of the Californians sketch with Bill Hader, and apparently Bill co-wrote an episode of Curb this year, not sure if this was the one. The umbrella thief, the soaked dress, disrespecting the Japanese, and nobody able to keep a secret, all felt very typical and expected. Middling.

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm [Comedy]
Oh my God, Larry finally mentioned it, in episode 1108 called "What Have I done?" ▼Spoiler the asshole in line at the checkout who's 10 feet from the counter, and essentially not in line, Larry asks to move up and he gets called a racist. I always ask that asshole if they're even in line, and if they don't respond or don't know, I just cut in front and go to the counter. Fuck you to everyone on the planet that doesn't move up. 4-6 feet and no more distance, or you're not in line! I love that covid has caused some businesses to put dots on the floor that you have to stand on at the checkout line up, now these idiots have to move up instead of standing 10-15 feet back from the counter! Also, a lot of businesses are much cleaner now, all because of covid.

▼Spoiler And then Irma says: "I don't think we're talking about the same thing." Leon was completely lost in translation; laughed so hard it hurt.

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm [Comedy]
Y'know if that last episode didn't have Bill Hader in it it'd have been top tier, but his scenes nearly ruined the whole thing.

▼Spoiler You're right. Bill was too over the top and too hammed up, which didn't land right at all, like an SNL skit meets real people, where you could definitely tell he was acting. Kinda feel bad for him, because he's so good otherwise. It just didn't play, which they should've noticed before they decided to air this episode. Maybe Larry just wanted it hammed up like that for some reason, I dunno? The bad actress Larry is trying to get rid of, is more believable.

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm [Comedy]
Episode 1110 is interesting for Curb, more serialized than usual and a bit of a cliffhanger, I really liked it. ▼Spoiler Larry and Leon both propositioned Susie for a "test drive"...a bit too pervy, but still really funny. He coined a new term for directors, a "roper". Larry will blackmail the councilman for not having a fence around his pool, and it'll blow up in his face. The show he's producing on the show is getting cancelled, one way or the other, I can't wait. The mormon advantage seemed like an add-on, rather than anything important. Irma getting drunk in the bar was so out of character, it was hilarious! So good.

How the hell they get all these actors on this silly show to do these micro roles? Every other episode somebody like Mila Kunis, Lucy Liu, Kaley Cuoco etc. etc. etc.

It's filmed in LA, largely improvised, and it's a great show. Probably have people calling up asking to be on it.

naah, Kaley Cuoco net work 100 mil. usd, a role - a girl who dropped a Piraty Booty doubt it's money why they do it.
