Topic: Succession
https://next-episode.net/succession Succession follows the saga of the Roys, a fictional, American global-media family that is not only rich and powerful but also powerfully dysfunctional. The drama will explore family loyalty, international business and the perils of power in the 21st century.
Such a cascade of hilariously-deluded sibling megashits. I see Will Ferrell listed as exec producer. Wonder if he had a part in the dialogue being so insanely spicy and hostile. Its just a torrid torrent of vicious belittlements under the guise of phoned-in filial piety.
Every time I've decided which character is the worst of the worst, another candidate will up the ante. The Contenders: Kendall Roy. neurotic son. a wiener inside a wiener wrapped up in wienerdom. Although he does seem to have some business acumen his uptight neurotic butthurt just makes him utterly revolting to everyone who comes into contact with him and renders him an object of enfeebled hatred. His father already saw right the fuck thru him BEFORE , now Dad owns him like a beta cuck cock-in-sock puppet. Surely the worst. Romulus Roy. cannot believe that Dad is the only one so far to have just smashed him in the face. He should be copping a hiding after every 3rd sentence he's ever said. Gets COO gig, ▼Spoiler walks into office, looks at computer for 3 seconds, bored immediately, lies on floor, bored, so pulls the blinds and proceeds to stimulate himself to issue against the window pane. Surely the worst.
Logan the Dad. falling the fuck apart. whether or not his new foreign goldigger wife, who the kids all obviously hate, is going to roger the whole lot of them up the arse, is the key intrigue of the entire series i reckon Shiv. deadshit. I'm still unclear why she wants to marry ghastly Tom. That scene in the ▼Spoiler limo when she offered Gil hand sanitizer after he shook hands with the working class sealed her status as surely the worst. Connor. totally deluded nutjob. thick as pigshit and a terrible human being. His GF, the birdbrained teenage ex-hooker who hates him haha. Surely he is the worst Connor's GF: the "playwright", we only got one glimpse of her writing "talent" when she scribbled out MoLesters hilariously soulless eulogy

Yeah, it's a pretty good show... I'm still in season 1 though, other shows have to be watched too.

Re: Succession
I finished season 2 yesterday, which makes it one year and one day after my last post. Really good show! And really good acting. I love that the cast visits many different locations, it adds to the authenticity of the show. And I love how season 2 ended when ...
▼Spoiler ... Kendall decided it's time to stop being a doormat - on live TV! Looking forward to season 3.

I hammered through season 1 and 2 about a year ago, and its extraordinarily well done, and easily the best show on TV, in terms of production, writing, and acting. Yet, in the same flavor as many shows these days, I don't care if it gets cancelled, funnily enough, there's just nothing about it that resonates with me on any level. Superb, but who cares, is my general feeling.

Re: Succession
301 was incredible! Refreshing to watch a masterclass in story telling. Compared to everything else that's been on, it felt like a movie. How they manage to connect scenes, resolve story arcs, then advance plot, is in another league. The editing is soooo tight! There's nothing on screen that doesn't need to be there. Praise aside, this show reminds me of Homeland, as it's first 3 seasons were also incredible, but the concept slowly began to rot and lose what was fresh about it, and I can see Succession going the same way, and if it doesn't wrap things up sooner than later, it'll just turn into an extremely well done, boring story. ▼Spoiler I find Kendall is far too neurotic and hot headed, which makes him weak, almost worse than Connor, and I just see Kendall blowing this up by not listening to the people around him who are wise, then trusting the wrong people who are evil, but we'll see. Will he be able to outsmart the rest of his family? Seems very unlikely, but I really want to see him succeed. Nothing better than taking down a tyrant. This editorial by Ciara Wardlow reflects my sentiments very well.

Re: Succession
Nobody interested in this show? ok. 302, Romulus had some pretty funny zingers. ▼Spoiler The siblings together at Kendall's place, just felt like plants, in there, to attack Kendall, and in the end, they chose the predictable result. Nobody turned. Oh well, ho-hum.

Yes, no doubt! I love the small details. Shortly after Kendall kicks the woman out of the company car, Shiv reads an article about that on her phone, which is made to look exactly like a New York Times article. paisley1 wrote:▼Spoiler I find Kendall is far too neurotic and hot headed, which makes him weak, almost worse than Connor, and I just see Kendall blowing this up by not listening to the people around him who are wise, then trusting the wrong people who are evil, but we'll see. I agree, but almost every main character here is an idiot, one way or another. paisley1 wrote:This editorial by Ciara Wardlow reflects my sentiments very well.
I didn't read it fully, but totally agree with this:
“Succession” has been off the air for two long years, but by five minutes into the season three premiere you feel like you never left—partly because the new season picks up moments after where the previous ended, but mostly because it’s just as good as you remember it, if not better.
"Five minutes into the season three premiere you feel like you never left" - that's exactly how I felt!

Ya, me too. I like how they do that in shows, where the season finale and season premiere are 2-parters. Glad you're into Succession too, I saw a tumbleweed blow by the other day on this thread, lolz. Every idiotic bone headed thing they do on Succession is written, portrayed, and captured (like that article) so well, I can't fault it; everyone working on this show is amazing. Succession is really odd, because it's a family business drama, and you'd think it's slow, yet it's paced like an action flick with a sense of urgency, where you're on the edge of your seat and there's no time to lose and every minute is important, and the stakes are always at 11, and everyone's head is on the chopping block, and you never know what's going to happen. You'd think a business show called Succession would be the slow burner, and an alien scifi show called Invasion would be intense, but ironically, it's the diametric opposite. Even when Succession gears down it's good.

Re: Succession
So good. The battle for #1 deadshit sibling has resumed. At the moment I'm going with Shiv. Kendall is neurotically deluded but at least you can feel some sympathy for the guy. Romulus is a smart-mouthed dickhead but still fun in his brutal honesty. Connor is hapless but harmless Shiv is completely without any humane characteristics at all. An incrediibly ugly human being. God I hope Tom was just fishing with his offers to take the fall and turns around and somehow shafts her.

Re: Succession
The awkward silences and long shots with nothing being said in 304 were meme-able; perfect for an SNL skit. I'm surprised when Kieran Culkin was on SNL last week, they didn't do a Succession joke or a Macaulay Culkin joke; the previous cast would've found the humor there; disappointing, as usual. 305 was quite a middling episode for Succession.

Re: Succession
306 I enjoyed the over use of the diner, it had that feel of a movie, all those scenes were so well captured, just a production masterclass. Tom's really going through it. I've never given this show a rating so: 9.5/10. Superb on every level. It's never dipped in production quality from the top of this season to now, which is impressive.

Absolutely. There is so much dialogue crammed in too, all delivered so naturally. I still have no idea how acotrs remember all that stuff and then say it like they just thought of it. Only 1 episode to go. Ken: falling to bits. Shattered by his own family hating on him at his b-day party. Just cash out buddy. 2 bill will do! The way this actor goes from brash and bilious to raw exposed bewildered little boy in a heartbeat is just amazing Rom: seems to be in the ascendancy, set himself up as King Shit... in daddys good graces... so expect the fall Shiv: thought she was It. Daddy casually tossed her aside afetr the sweet nothings of a couple of eps ago. Now she's steamed. She couldnt give a flyign shit whether her own husband goes to jail or not. In the race to The Worst, she still has her nose in front for me. Tom: damn i thought he was playing the long game, testing the familial waters with the prison talk... but he really did think he was going. He's really the only one to root for in this whole shit show. Greg; wft is going on here. How the hell do you predict his path. Glad he got the girl though

▼Spoiler I loathe Tom. What are you talking about? He's a leach, a bloodsucker, and a genuine jerk to the people around him, whereas the siblings just talk smack about each other like siblings do to lower each others self worth and get into daddy's good graces, but Tom is a genuine soulless jerk. Tom showing actual compassion to Logan during his UTI was a revelation and mostly because he feared going to prison, and done because nothing in his life seemed to matter at the time, lolz. They're all terrible, I probably like Tom just a little more than Logan, who is the type of human I have zero tolerance and patience for; Logan's definitely at the bottom for me. Wouldn't it be great in the end, they all end up in prison, roll credits, that's a wrap! That would be sooooo satisfying! A just dessert.

Re: Succession
Interesting perspective on Tom. Yes, Logan has a lot of Worst credentials. I want an entire half-season devoted to at least 2 of them being in prison. Shiv requesting hand sanitiser from a guard. Rom getting lippy at his first visit to the dining hall and getting immediately punched in the head, no ifs no buts. Half his teeth gone before lunchtime.

Absolutely yes to everything you're saying, sadly, they would probably thrive in the prison system.

Wow, that was a powerful episode. And what a tense, emotive ending. ▼Spoiler And one of the cleverest lines I've heard in a long while: "We've just walked in on mum and dad fucking us."

I found the end of episode 309 a bit abrupt, I would have preferred another episode to tie things off for next season a little better, but, wow, what a show, it's not really a show, it's a film, like long format film making. This is simply the highest level of production the medium of television can produce. The choices in directing, editing, coverage and cinematography, story/writing/dialogue, acting, sets/locations, lighting, wardrobe, are all, no less than cinema. Compare Succession to any other show, and it's in another league. I'd be nervous on that set and have to bring my A-game every day, as it's of the highest calibre. Also, like I said before about Logan, he's the rock bottom worst.

I think the abruptness of it was part of why it was so good. It was BANG! No time to think about it, just hit with that. Like a car accident. Right, here's what's happened, deal with it. Or don't, I don't care. All scurrying around trying to come to terms with what's going on, without the time to do it. Great stuff.

...they could've put "to be continued..." at the end, as it felt that abrupt and jarring. So well done.

Re: Succession
The 2022 Golden Globes were boycotted this year for being anti-diversity, but Succession still won 3 awards: Best Drama - Duh. It's a masterclass in film making. Best Actor - Jeremy Strong (Kendall) Best Supporting Actress - Sarah Snook (Shiv) Brian Cox lost to Jeremy Strong, and Kieran Culkan was nominated for best supporting actor but lost to O Yeong-su. Should make for some quiet and competitive rivalries this year on set. When left untreated, HFPA, as we all know, can lead to cervical cancer, so they quickly made sweeping changes to become more diverse. The magic of Hollywood! Here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYCGnhS_3j4 @Santah I cleaned up the previous posts.
