You is an American psychological thriller television series based on the books by Caroline Kepnes, developed by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble, and produced by Warner Horizon Television (now Warner Bros. Television), in association with Alloy Entertainment and A+E Studios.

The first season, which is based on the novel You, premiered on Lifetime in September 2018, and follows Joe Goldberg, a bookstore manager and serial killer who falls in love and develops an extreme obsession. The season stars Penn Badgley, Elizabeth Lail, Luca Padovan, Zach Cherry, and Shay Mitchell. Lifetime announced in July 2018 that You had been renewed for a second season, based on Kepnes' follow-up novel Hidden Bodies. The series later moved to Netflix, and was released exclusively in December 2019. The season follows Joe as he moves to Los Angeles and falls in love with local heiress Love Quinn. For the second season, Ambyr Childers was upgraded to a series regular, joining newly cast Victoria Pedretti, James Scully, Jenna Ortega, and Carmela Zumbado.

In January 2020, the series was renewed for a third season by Netflix, which was released on October 15, 2021. In the third season, Saffron Burrows was upgraded to a series regular, joining newly cast Travis Van Winkle, Shalita Grant, Tati Gabrielle and Dylan Arnold. In October 2021, ahead of the third season premiere, the series was renewed for a fourth season.

Re: You [Psychological Thriller]

I couldn't find the forum that discusses this show, so I created one, but if there is one, redirect me.

I just started season 3, and I'm 4 episodes in, and it's very tedious to get through.  I binged seasons 1 and 2 awhile ago, and it was a breeze, I loved the ride and I was really looking forward to what comes next, but this season so far is such a different dynamic I'm having a difficult time.  Just wondering if anyone else is watching this show.

Spoiler

The ordinary setting and hum-drum parenting story in season 3 is what I find boring. I preferred the setting and single life dynamic in the first two seasons far more, as it was escapist.  Couples therapy for two psychopaths is a bit on the nose, but ok.  Backstory Joe is more interesting to me than any of this.

Ya, I thought there was a forum as well, but I couldn't find it.  I suppose we could just make this the official one, as there is no "Forum" link on the next-episode web page for YOU.  (Not that there's much to talk about.)

Re: You [Psychological Thriller]

This is a full blown Romantic Dexter, love it big_smile Also a rare show nowadays which takes a huge dump on political correctness big_smile

Yeah, S03 is a bit worse, but still good. What was annoying - ffs, learn to hide things already! Especially if involves things and body parts of a dead people big_smile

Did you start watching YOU because I posted this forum?  If so, glad you like it, it's a bit of a guilty pleasure show for me.

Spoiler

Romantic Dexter is apt, and ya, the leads tend to make classic TV mistakes, and they gloss over a lot of detail, and there's plenty of suspended disbelief, but I still thoroughly love the premise.

Binged the first season this weekend, quite nice!
Surprised how well Elizabeth Lail was acting, she had alot of sex appeal smile
Oh and Romantic Dexter is spot on lol, or rather romantic spontaneous Dexter.

Still, needed some time to adjust from Dan Humphrey to Joe while watching.

Yeah, but I watched Gossip Girl so long ago that somehow forgot fast about it.

Re: You [Psychological Thriller]

Imo the weakest season so far, and meh - infestation even here, if this would be S01, I would drop this show as soon as genz opened her mouth. Tho 5 more episodes, maybe somebody will kill her.

Spoiler

the rest feels like a rushed afterthought, it was super obvious that the wannabie mayor is the culprit

I'm not minding it, but it's portrayal of London is so wrong and quite how Joe would be so in with the 1% of the 1% is laughable.

2020.  Meh.

Well, You played with the GenZ social media and left lib bullshit lingo since S01E01. Without it, the first season and everything after wouldn't have worked. It was ok in S1 and S2, S3 was already very hard to live through since they just took it over the top. A bit more down to earth portrait of the rich Californian social elite might have gone a long way in making the whole season way better. But on S4? It just gets too much. Or I am just feed up. Hard to swallow and quite laughable representation of the old English money.

I will probably pull through, but I do not enjoy as I did S1 and S2... and even to some extend S3.

Btw, with the beard, joe looks somehow like  a well groomed "Haywire" to me wink

Re: You [Psychological Thriller]

Finally watched till the end, one obnoxious and boring cringe, they manage to mess this one up even worse than the last season of Dexter.

I gave up somewhere mid season. And got no desire to catch up at some point. I keep You in my collection for a fun 1st season, a decent 2nd season... well and even the to some extend the third season had its moments. But 4? Nop. I pretend it does not exist.

Re: You [Psychological Thriller]

Same here, I wanted to turn it off, but let run it as background noise till the end. Won't be watching S05, instead I have some 80 shows to explore which I yet don't know if they are garbage. The first 2 seasons were great. RIP.
