Every time a character dies, I always say "Well, they won't be in the next one". It's from the closing credits out-take of Rush Hour 2 when Chris Tucker says "Damn, well he ain't gonna' be in Rush Hour 3" and Jackie Chan cracks up laughing.

It could be what you're thinking, but I hope we'll learn more about it in the next episode. If we won't, that attack was too random/ not plausible enough for my taste.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
Well, let's do some math. Foundation, season 1, has a total of 10 episodes. According to IMDb, Jared Harris (Harry Seldon), Lou Llobell (Gaal Dornick), and Alfred Enoch (Raych Foss), are each in (drum roll....) 10 episodes (of season 1.) Of course, it could amount to a series of flashbacks going to have to wait and see I guess.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
Brother Dawn will surprise us next episode. Possibly a lot more than brother Dawn will surprise us but checking out IMDb made me aware of some oddities. I mean IMDb surprised me about brother Dawn. I'll get it right directly.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
It was actually harder to get through the first two Eps of this show than it was to get through the Flash... Sadly though I've read every Foundation book, I don't think this show is for me. I think merc put it well when they wrote, "very glossy but rather empty" earlier in this string. I was so bored that I almost fell asleep twice and I was watching it at high speed... I mean, sure it had great production that's all it had... I was completely uninterested in everything going on, I cared about no one, had very little understanding where the show was going and kind of turned off by the sex and violence... Also it seems the creators of this series wanted to 'show not tell' us the book's famous quote, “Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.” On the plus side we do not live in a time when, due solely the the limited number of SF series, fans of the genre feel obligated to support all SF shows... indeed, for most of my life I've been lucky enough to be able to be choosy with what I watch (however it might look on the outside) and to that end it's time to use that freedom once again, I'm dropping the show! Hope it works out satisfactory for the rest of y'all

Oddly enough, I've liked what I've watched so far. I thought this would be a snooze fest as well, but good going so far.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
eps 3- another dud. Thats nearly 1/3 way through the season. ▼Spoiler No explanation of Seldons death, Gaal only here as a voice over so she is gone it seems, 20 minutes going over the passing of the older of the three empires. why? zipping backwards and forwards in time. Nothing much happening. other than some locals from a neighbouring planet come visit. sorry Apple you have wasted a lot of money on this glossy dud. some one here persuade me otherwise

I wouldn't bet money on that... Maybe be a little bit more patient? merc wrote:sorry Apple you have wasted a lot of money on this glossy dud. some one here persuade me otherwise
We are not here to persuade you (or anyone else). If you can't appreciate what this show offers, you can stop watching it. The IMDb rating shows that the show found its audience.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
After watching 103, it's the teleplay that sucks, that is, their approach to the timeline and series of events has played out so far in a way that unfortunately hides, not just the big reveals in the development of the plot (as it should), but the character development along with it that's necessary to hook an otherwise accepting and respondent audience. AKA Cloud Atlas. Is it a mess or is it ingenious? I should probably stop, because this is going to continue to be my argument throughout episodes 104-110; "They should've started the story from the beginning of 'Prelude to Foundation' and continued in chronological order." They should've at least done Prelude to Foundation as a two part feature length movie to set the hook with the audience, like BSG, then moved in chronological order. That would've been my pitch to Apple. Great special effects. Much better music for the scene, but I care less about these new characters they've introduced. Why 10 episodes/season? Why not 20, with 10 bottle episodes? It's not like they don't have the cash, the sets, or the writers.

Well, Cloud Atlas was a bit of a mess, but a wonderful one! <3 Let's see what we'll think about the timeline decisions a bit later in the show. paisley1 wrote:Why 10 episodes/season? Why not 20, with 10 bottle episodes? It's not like they don't have the cash, the sets, or the writers.
I've asked myself that "Why 10 episodes/season?" (or even less) question several times regarding other shows... Is it because 'everybody' is so busy now and doesn't want to commit to a season with 20 episodes?

Not wanting to commit. Could very well be. Or it just takes so much more work to produce the quality of episode they're going for now, with shows like Foundation, to maintain an audience, that they can't manage more than 10 per year? So, high standards of viewers, perhaps, that creates more visually driven media at the detriment of story? I think there's a ton more greed in there too, that is, in terms of return on investment being far more short term return, and not long term return. Star Trek The Next Generation is a great example of what I'd want to see again, that is, build massive elaborate sets for the pilot, then use those sets as the backdrop for 25+ episodes per season, where, because of advertising dollars from commercials, they could make their money back on volume of episodes, and syndication, which, unfortunately, totally doesn't work in our current system, it's too splintered with too much competition for eyeballs.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
It was not as exciting as I'd anticipated. ▼Spoiler Even though I'd swear that when I wrote the 9/27 post IMDb attributed 10 episodes each to (the characters of) Harry Seldon, Gaal, Raych, and yet I saw none of them in the 3rd episode, and it may have been my mind playing tricks on me because today it attributes 9 episodes each to Harry Seldon and Raych, and 10 to Gaal. The Mathematician's Ghost (ep. 3) is not listed for Seldon or Raych but it is listed for Gaal though I don't recall seeing her for even an instant. Also, brother Dawn was a bit confusing. When I'd seen a young but grown man's picture for brother Dawn on 9/27 and noted he was in the 3rd episode and for 8 episodes I figured this was just the grown up version of the little boy, but the baby in the episode threw me off. It was all a little confounding. I'll continue to watch the next episode but if it doesn't touch down soon I'll lose interest.

well many of the paper reviews have been scathing. explain why they and I am wrong. I put that challenge a few posts back. One poor decision in eps 3 was to spent 20 minutes ie 1/3 of the eps waiting to see dusk empire get incinerated. eps 2 having Seldons sidekick knife the guy then in eps 3 as if nothing had happened. very poor writing I think.

Maybe you just like a different kind of show? Yes, some things could have been better, but the discussion about the appropriateness of using the decimal system alone... was just great! <3

Dusks empire was the only part of 103 that I liked, because it's backstory that sets the stage for the reality of the universe we are entering into, the other 2/3's of the episode is what I take issue with, as it's too far in the future, again, a bit like Cloud Atlas but not as bad, as I haven't been properly grounded in the life of this universe yet to care about anyone, and a sign of good storytelling is that they managed to hook me right away, and they didn't, which to me suggests, this still needs work in terms of, "How do we tell this story with such massive scale in terms of timeline, without becoming inert in our ability to develop characters?"
