Trailer looks AWESOME (and expensive)! <3 Even if the show is only half as good as the trailer promises, it should be a good show.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
I've been waiting for this for over three years! I hope Apple TV+ is as ambitious and invested as the showrunner. I hope subscription totals and viewership numbers satisfy even more. This series should be a plus for them, since getting users to spend more time in their already massive ecosystem of product and contents, including the Apple TV app and Apple’s new subscription bundles, will always be a welcome addition. 'Foundation' Showrunner Hopes for Unparalleled 80 Episodes on Apple TV+

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
From that page:
Given that only two Apple TV+ shows have premiered second seasons and been renewed for third seasons, it is far too early to speculate on whether Foundation will reach as many as eight seasons. Nevertheless, discussion of a considerably longer, overarching narrative than has otherwise been seen on Apple TV+ so far, and comparison to the highly successful Game of Thrones may indicate that Apple has very ambitious plans for Foundation.
I doubt that it will happen, but who knows? If season 1 turns out great there's a chance.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
From https://www.patentlyapple.com/patently- … ation.html : So when David S. Goyer met with Apple TV executives about making Foundation into a series, he was ready. "Apple asked me if I could pitch it in one sentence," Goyer told The Hollywood Reporter in a deep-dive career retrospective interview covering his past hits and future projects. "They sort of asked it laughingly. I said: ‘It’s a 1,000-year chess game between Hari Seldon and the Empire, and all the characters in between are the pawns, but some of the pawns over the course of this saga end up becoming kings and queens.'" So, a bit like Game of Thrones in space — but over a much, much longer time span.
Game of Thrones in space... I like that. I haven't decided whether or not to read the full interview, it's here: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movie … 234983774/

If it's anything like the books it'll be nothing like GoT in space. Having been only marginally entertained by those I'm going to have to hear really great things about the series and hear that it's a great departure from the source material.

Isaac Asimov has an ingenious imagination but he's a frustrating author to read with poorly written prose. I'm more of a Daniel Defoe fan, he knows how to craft a sentence. Series show runners David S. Goyer & Josh Friedman are both questionable choices to me as I'm not a fan of their TV work, but I'm hopeful that all that dirty Apple money will at least make good wall art out of Foundation. (My prediction is that the artists and designers on set will be the ones who carry the show, and that Foundation will be very pretty but void of substance.) I really want to be excited about a new scifi that can fill the BSG/SG1 void, but I have reason to curb my enthusiasm, even when the trailers look amazing. Alex Graves and Roxann Dawson are going to be directing some episodes, which gives me hope; they're amazing, they've done some exceptional work on TV.

Good, good...
Or...Foundation...poorly written...questionable...void of substance. Or...Foundation...ingenious....excited about a new scifi....the trailers look amazing...exceptional! You can spin anything if you take it out of context. I give both praise and concern.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
Well, my fingers are crossed that David S. Goyer hasn't totally destroyed The Foundation Saga... but given his history I'll most probably be hugely disappointed with this adaptation... Especially as the trailers alone seem to present a fundamental misunderstanding of the source material. That being said there are many series which diverges considerably from the source material with fantastic results, The Magicians comes to mind immediately. But there are plenty others from MASH to True Blood. Meanwhile, the 4 Episode Test looms ahead

Foundation 1x1: WOW. So good. Looks really expensive, some beautiful shots, good acting, looking forward to the rest of the show!

very glossy but rather empty and slow until end of eps2. I keep on expecting Seldon to break out into belter banter. Not in the class as The expanse (so far). They should have achievd more in the very long eps ( 1hr+)

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
Better than most movies out today, with gorgeous filming, sets, and props! Glad there's something to watch again! Very little backstory considering how much ground they covered. Jumps off the screen a lot like Isaac Asimov's writing, that is, fantastical but a bit blunt and obtuse, ie, the spy. So, I wish they'd paced this a little slower as they started the story in the middle, and I understand the thinking, they need to explain why the show is called Foundation right away, but the backstory of everything is far more interesting if you started at the beginning, and deflates a lot of suspense, ie Demerzel, starting where they did. I really enjoy the acting, but do I care about our characters lives? Do I resonate with any theme? Does Harry Seldon's work of psycho history bear any impact on me? Does the technology not seem a bit crude for a galactic empire? As much as I love Bear McCreary and enjoy the score he's written for Foundation, some of it seemed out of place for the scene, especially episode one. It's such an ambitious project though, that I wish the entire team working on this all the best.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
I have had a 2nd view and left with a better impression than the first, but the tech is really dated? no transporters have to use that umbilical cord thing that takes 14 hours I ask you? I read the books long time ago. Can some one explain - ▼Spoiler why Harry Seldons' tall side kick killed him? And I dont think much of his love for Gaal in dumping her in a pod with the knife he killed Seledon with thus incriminating her!

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]
I watched the first two episodes. I fell asleep sometime during the second episode and had to back track to where I'd left off after I woke and realized it had continued playing. I proceeded to watch then but it took a lot because it was kind of uneventful, slow, and boring... until the end as merc pointed out. ▼Spoiler Then it was distastefully violent. I'm still hooked. It has a lot of interesting elements and now I'm curious... ▼Spoiler I'm wondering now if and when she's going to be rescued, resuscitated, etc. It's those things that can keep a person coming back I reckon.
