Thanks for the replies all and as someone who is not versed in the technical aspects of web design I cannot comment intelligently as to how difficult it would be to add an option for user reviews and/or create a path from reviews to the forum... HOWEVER I can state that I believe the point is missed as to why this is sooooooo much better an idea than posting on the series forums user's reviews.
As someone constrained to the forum to add reviews I feel obligated to point out several things: Like those 'reviews' are not meant to start a conversation but (ideally) to provided a platform for opinions which may help others in deciding to watch something. Further those opinions placed in the forum are, by nature, swallowed by further comments which pile over them and they may also feel quiet out of context at those points. On top of which many folks add reviews at different times, sometimes it is years after a program has finished airing while others do like to review as series air.
More importantly we are all here to celebrate our common interest, even if only in part, but the only ways that can be accomplished is to heavily engage in the something like the forum (which to be fair many users are not very aware of as it is not even an option on the app) or the very passive choice of rating (which isn't even something you can do per season... it's the entire series or nothing). As a result those rating exist in a sort of vacuum, they have no context for say how a series performs either episode-to-episode or season-to-season. This may not be a big deal for programs like M*A*S*H or The Twilight Zone (1959) which were pretty consistent overall but what of that last season of SCRUBS or Battlestar Galactica (2004).
For that matter what about a television series like American Horror Story which might be transient one season then may be painful to watch the next. How does one rate this inconsistency with just an overall series star rating system? What of those anthology series like the Twilight Zone in any of it's incarnation, can a star rating truly provide any use to someone who didn't like the only episode they have watched to that point?
As part of the forum I have recently be conversing about how some programs have taken awhile to become compelling. I would love the opportunity to advise fellow Teleophiles that they might do will to give some series a chance as it might take awhile for them to see what made the series good.
Listen I'm not trying to be a jerk here and I'm very happy to have a place like Next Episode where I can keep track of what I'm watching and what I have watched. But I believe it could be better, it could be a resource for billions of series fans the world over and I think improving our ability to rate programs with the addition of a review is a great start... More importantly it's of value to newbies who might become more regular users, if like other web based resources, it can offer the very simple ability to give more depth to (IMHO) the iffy use of rating alone to indicating the value of our favorite or even least favorite television series.
