Topic: A Discovery of Witches [Drama, Fantasy, Romance]
A Discovery of Witches
A Discovery of Witches is a TV adaptation of the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. It follows the story of Diana Bishop, an alchemical history professor at The University of Oxford who, after accidentally calling an elusive, long-thought-lost manuscript, is compelled to embrace the magic in her blood she has sought to keep out of her life and engage in a forbidden romance with charming vampire Matthew Clairmont.

I got bored of that pretty quickly. Without meaning to sound sexist, it seemed a bit of a woman's show to me, but even my other half wasn't keen.
It's really well acted, and has a good story (if you can ignore the romance side of things). I can, so it works for me.
Yeah, it was above average for sure... I watched E01 - really good acting and interesting story. Thanks for the pointer! A Discovery of Witches has the better trailer (compared to Age of the Living Dead), will check it out!
np it's a good show about all those types of things (witches/vampires/demons). Has a bit of a war theme in it, just ignore the romance bits if that annoys you (I usually just skip ahead when they start getting cosy).
Haha, funny... never heard of anyone doing that.

I find the romantic bits always detract from the story. Here I can give them a pass because it essentially wrote itself up as a romance story, it's just that stuff always feels superfluous to me. I can only hope they don't have children in this show, because then it all becomes about how cute the child is. Please don't have any kids show!

Legacies is a product of an "how cute the child is" show that used to be mildly okay ish in a bored I guess I'll watch this kind of way (Originals). Legacies is everything I hate about TV!

Terrible show. Waste of time. Ridiculous story lines (so far away from books as Kamchatka is from Berlin), wooden acting, amateur directing. I repeat WASTE OF YOUR TIME.

The few episodes I watched so far were ok. Not "awesome", but nothing to hate IMHO pyrron wrote:Terrible show. Waste of time. Ridiculous story lines (so far away from books as Kamchatka is from Berlin), wooden acting, amateur directing. I repeat WASTE OF YOUR TIME.
Hmm... so far I agree more with the pretty good IMDb rating: A Discovery of Witches https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2177461/ 8.3/10 (11,098 votes) No time wasted

Better than the books, that I bought as an ebook and tended to skip thru. In fact the books seem to be an historian on a self indulgence trip. Too little real drama and the congregation a missed opportunity ( in the books ) that the tv series crrected. Still dont know what Daemons/Demons are they dont seem to have any special abilities so why were they included ( in the books) Was the author trying to avoid making it a Twilight for adults ( had she had werewovles instead) ?

I read the books (the trilogy) first. The writer is a professor of history, of course some historical facts are discussed. but this does not detract from the story on the contrary it reinforces the whole time travel story i loved the series and the chemistry between the characters very well done, looking forward to the next seasons of the series p.s .: I have started her new book (book 4 in the all souls series: Time's Convert)

I think the next season is early 2021? You are right about the characters esp the bad ones ( where the series departs from the book?)

I really, really enjoyed 2x7!
▼Spoiler "Matthew and Diana go to Bohemia to search for Edward Kelley and the Book of Life. There, they encounter the strange Emperor Rudolf II." Not sure what it was exactly, but I wouldn't mind the rest of the show being on the same level.

Finished season 2. I hope it'll not be 2+ years before season 3 starts!

Ah... I had hoped for 10. It'll also be the final season.
