merc_1 wrote:well eps 8 is better ( took a long time to get there) but I think the series should have been sold under the DC/Marvel Amazon (women) metahumans/inhumans banner rather than witches, which is silly and has no real mileage there is very little witch like about their abilities
You know, this is one of the days I think about the 3 big mysteries of the universe: - what exactly happens in supermassive black holes with billions of times the mass of our sun? - how does quantum entanglement work in detail and what does it mean for our future? - what goes on in merc_1's brain? The show has a 7.1 IMDb rating, so the witches theme seems to work well for most people.

The witch thing refers back to the times when women were overtly persecuted for doing their own thing and not being good little obedient wives. There is a theme here. It's just something that requires a little thought. As in, not on the surface and all obvious and finger pointy, like it was back in the day...

Did you consider that it's a perfect backstory and that the show just isn't for you?

Exactly. The backstory is a spotlight on like everything women went through.

really very little to do with women just a sub species of them and there are also the virile men versions which gave us a sex episode lol. So I dont think your argument holds water

It's not an argument, it's history. But you might notice (or you might not notice) what they did with it to make the show's story work. You try figure it out.

Re: Motherland: Fort Salem [Drama, Fantasy, Sci-Fi]
I have figured it out. I can enjoy the show as long as I think they are metahumans. If I want witches I'll watch Charmed

No, not Charmed. Think maybe halfway between Harry Potter and Full Metal Jacket. Not really either, but a bit of both.
I just stumbled upon your post and again smiled when I read "halfway between Harry Potter and Full Metal Jacket".

Re: Motherland: Fort Salem [Drama, Fantasy, Sci-Fi]
I had been looking forward to 2x1, and what can I say... it didn't disappoint! I decided to watch it with the volume cranked up a bit above normal, and that made the witch voice/ vocal scenes much more intense.

Re: Motherland: Fort Salem [Drama, Fantasy, Sci-Fi]
Any one still watching this? ▼Spoiler Season 2 is getting interresting with the magic mushroom ( that doesnt give anythng away?). I still think the witch connection spoils the show as it goes up against too much traditional ideas of potions and spells and magic that is jarring. Any way fun to see the blond "fixer/outcross" scream her head off. Any one care to rexplain what that is as I couldnt make out the dialogue

▼Spoiler The mother of them all witch descibed by the blond one with the side hair as a mothballed sea hag called her a fixer/outcross. I think her friend explained this but I couldnt make out the dialogue

Ah... I only vaguely recall that scene, I don't think you missed anything important.

Re: Motherland: Fort Salem [Drama, Fantasy, Sci-Fi]
Raelle the blonde one with the scar on her left face is an Outcross - that means she is not a pure witch ie a halfbreed with one parent a witch the other not ( in this case the father)

Alright. There's quite a bit of witch vocabulary that's not explained - but also not vital to understand what's happening.

I learnt this from the only? active podcast on this show. ( there is another one I found but seems like it stopped after season 1) This sort of thing is more important than you think. Here is another nugget from the podcast. Look at the map of the USA in the opening credits. Where the USA is divided into 2 parts with a slice of land callled the Cession.According to the podcast this was the price the fledgling US govt had to pay to the natives to give Gen Alder through the biddies an extended life - The US govt at the time valued her so much ( witchcarft was used to defeat the British ); Gen Alders extended life was not a power grab by her. This makes you see her in completley different light? So the Cession is where these "outcrosses" flourish with their non canon magic. ( not sure whether to put this in as a spoiler as it is just an explanation of the opening credits) By the way Raelle's scar is actually real not a cosmetic part piece. The actor Taylor Hickson put her fist through a" glass" window on another show, as part of the show and things didn't go well she had to have stitches

"A day ahead of the season two finale, the Disney-backed cabler has handed out a third and final season renewal for drama series Motherland: Fort Salem." https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv … 235001608/ So they get to wrap up everything properly. Nice!

A show that grows on you. I only wish Adil would put his kid sister in her place, she is only a kid who is wet behind her ears ( like Greta T)
