Topic: WandaVision
https://next-episode.net/wandavision
Blends the style of classic sitcoms with the MCU in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision - two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives - begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.
I have been looking forward (albeit with a fair amount of trepidation) to seeing what Disney would add to the Marvel Universe. WandaVision promised to explore two less well known characters from the Avengers' roster. Then I read this: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radi … andavision I feel ill...

Re: WandaVision
I've enhanced your post and posted about it at https://forum.next-episode.net/viewtopi … 09#p167409. I was somewhat looking forward to the show when I first heard about it, but the more I learned about it the less interested I became. At this point my interest reached such a low-point that I'm not willing to spend the time required to read that article. Feel free to summarize it for the rest of us, use spoiler tags if needed. (I am willing to reconsider should the show receive stellar ratings - we'll see. )

Re: WandaVision
I don't think it's a sitcom per se, though is it? I think I read somewhere that they've somehow got transported into a 1950's style TV sitcom, in black and white, but they don't know how or why etc. I don't think this is going to be another How I Met Your Marvel Character or The Big Marvel Theory

Re: WandaVision
From the trailer a while back it seemed like the plot is about her having created some kind of reality bubble, probably to be with Vision again, while a number of people outside the effect are trying to investigate what's happening there. If that's the case, the sitcom format will most likely just be the way the altered reality presents itself. I doubt the show will be a sitcom per se, but they will probably toy around with the concept quite a bit. Still excited for this, it might take a few directions similar to Legion. The half-hour length is still a bit surprising though.

Re: WandaVision
The first 3 episodes were given out for reviews and I read those episodes cover the sit-com realities she creates across the 60s, 70’s and 80’s eras, after that its normal time setting up the multiverse for the next phase of Marvel moving forward I believe. I’m really looking froward to it

I haven't read anything and don't care what ratings say. I'll watch it tomorrow and decide by myself if I like it or not.
...where did I put that rat's ass I could give?
Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves.

No, why would I? It's something about Wanda and Vision, ok I've seen them in Marvelngers movies. Cool, I'll check the show and if I like it I'll continue watching it.

Re: WandaVision
I agree, if i'm interested in a show i dont let a trailer decide if i'm gonna watch it or not and watch atleast the pilot. But if there are just too many interesting new shows out there or if it's a show other people recommended and were not previously on my radar before, i do use trailers aswell to decide if i take the time to watch the pilot or not. Since i do have Disney+ (through my brother) i'm gonna check out all Marvel and Star wars shows, atleast the pilot, anyway.

Re: WandaVision
Yes, I'm sure it was beautifully crafted and faithful to its genre, filmed with original lenses and lights, and DvD & Lucille Ball fans will be delighted, but I would rather not have to sit through half an hour of crap every week for 3 seconds of plot reveal each episode. Dreadful, pretentious garbage.

Re: WandaVision
There should be a disclaimer at the beginning: "If you've ever read or watched anything with a dream/hallucination/mind control sequence, which we assume you have since you've tuned into a superhero show and there's about one of those per year/season in everything in the genre, please feel free to join us in episode 4(?)"

Re: WandaVision
Thanks, interesting 'reviews' so far. IMDb users really seem to like the show, first rating I saw was 9/10, right now still at 8.5/10. I'll wait before I decide if I should watch it.

Re: WandaVision
Seems to have pretty decent reviews so far: https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-55674300 But hey, if you don't like it, just come on here and waste your time telling us all the reasons why you think it's "dreadful pretentious garbage". Or you could just not enter the thread of a TV show you don't like, and spend your time watching something you do like. Unless there is value in telling us why you don't like something. Is that ever valid? Can someone elses opinion of an artform actually make someone else like or dislike that art? Or is our opinion of art fixed?

Re: WandaVision
So having watched the first two episodes, I didn't laugh once. Was it meant to be funny - there was a huge amount of canned-laughter. Does it get any better?

Re: WandaVision
After 20 seconds i lost interest, forced myself through the next 5 minutes and stopped for now and thinking if i should skip the first 3 eps till the show hopefully really starts. Maybe i should have watched the trailer first to be prepared a bit. :S

I wanted to like this show, but this is how I felt as well. If you are the type who still likes to watch I dream of Jeannie and Bewitched etc, then this might be right up your alley!

I think we all understand the premise, but 30 minutes of junk TV for 3 seconds of plot reveal? Excessive and tedious.

The idea behind it is pretentious. That the Dick Van Dycke show or I love Lucy, or any of the popular sitcoms of the past are worthy of such veneration. The fawning over the "cleverness" of the idea in the reviews is pretentious too, it ignores the fact that the 1st two episodes just weren't funny or entertaining. TV shows are about entertainment, they're not just an art form. Can TV shows rise to the level of art? I think so, but not if "art" is all they are. If they fail in their primary purpose, they have failed full stop.

I've watched the first episode and will watch more. To those who don't like it, stop watching, stop bitching and make a better one if you can. If not... It's not like you have invested money in the show...

Don't be a dick. This is a forum specifically to talk about TV shows and our reactions to them. Do the people who don't like it no longer have a right to an opinion?

I wouldn't say it was set in dumb times (whatever they are), they're just copying the style of classic sitcoms, starting with the 1950's Bewitched. I still think there is more to this than what we are seeing though, I don't think they are literally just copying sitcoms and their formats. If I'm wrong and that really is all they are doing then yeah, I think my opinion of Wandavision is going to change. But if you watch even the first episode it's pretty clear that nothing is all as it seems.
