Topic: neXt (2020) [Sci-Fi/ A.I. thriller]
https://next-episode.net/next-2020 Watchlists: 114 I like the trailer, it reminds me of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062622/) and Ex Machina (2014) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0470752/), both of which I enjoyed. While typing this I also recall the related episodes from https://next-episode.net/travelers and https://next-episode.net/silicon-valley/ - the latter one ending quite brutal in a way I didn't expect. Hopefully they have a big enough budget to make this one a good show!

YES!* It was challenging to set up a Google Alert for this show, most of the initial results were just about other shows. *Maybe santah won a few hundred million $ in the lottery and decided to produce "neXt" just to secretly promote this lovely site!

Having watched the trailer, I am not sure about it. I might see if it gets a second season before I start
DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom". http://xkcd.com/488/

the trailer looked horrible, I doubt it'll even get a full first season order. Reminded me of Person of Interest, a dark twist on it where The Machine evolves and goes rogue.

As known, tastes differ. You see failure, but I see potential. Only the future will tell.

Re: neXt (2020) [Sci-Fi/ A.I. thriller]
When it comes to sci-fi shows (or any shows for that matter) airing on FOX, I have some serious trust issues. With that being said, I will definitely check this out. I recently watched the new trailer released by FOX, but I found the first trailer to be much more fulfilling. It's supposed to premiere some time in 2020. So many quality TV shows to watch/binge that I hardly have any time to watch movies.

I agree, the first one was better... the show might not be as good as I hoped it would be. scorpius074 wrote:So many quality TV shows to watch/binge that I hardly have any time to watch movies.
Haha, same here! P.S.: I've just replied to your PM.

I wonder if they'll release another trailer since quite some time has passed... (Posting this 1 year and 2 days after my last post! )

So, in the midst of episode 1 now. It still looks promising enough to me. The acting/overall production may not be top level, but it manages to hold attention. Being the latest spin on accessible A.I., it incorporates a lot of the latest technology we might see in day to day living...

Yeah I thought it was okay. it's on Fox so that comes with a cost of missing grittiness, but it has a good premise. Will see if they can make it good despite not having the freedom to go nuts.

I agree! After watching 1x1 I guess it could end up being a good show of average quality.

So far good, also AI I like better than the one in Person of Interest. There is no logical reason why a real self aware AI should be "good". It can be as good as we are to another animals, make some zoo and/or reservation for us ▼Spoiler So exploiting a gambling addiction and convincing less intellectual beings to walk in the traps, imo, is spot on

I agree, g371. I once read a great article about AI, sadly can't find it right now. Bottom line: if you want to give an AI lots of power in the real world, better make sure you are really careful when defining its objectives.

Very simple, if it will have a slightest survival instinct, humans are the number one threat to it

Just finished episode 2. Not bad. Edit - that was a combined episode 2 & 3. Next to air will be episode 4 on November 10 nearly a month away.

You can only say that if you are not watching the show. Or if you are just joking. The show is good (enough to keep watching) so far. Some production specifics reminded me of https://next-episode.net/the-gifted, another FOX show.
