‘The Baker And The Beauty’ Canceled By ABC After One SeasonABC has canceled The Baker and the Beauty. The hourlong romantic comedy-drama, based on the hit Israeli format, was one of two freshman series left on the bubble by ABC after it made the bulk of its renewals and cancellations last month. The other, drama For Life, has been renewed. Tipped as comfort-food fare that could be a good programming fit during the pandemic, The Baker and the Beauty had a tough time connecting with viewers, ranking as one of the ABC’s lowest-rated series.

Escape the Night: Cancelled, No Season Five for YouTube Series, But…Escape the Night is seeing daylight on YouTube, but fans may still see a fifth season, per Variety. Joey Graceffa revealed that fans may see a fifth season somewhere else. It may not be this year, but he left the door open for it to return. YouTube has been canceling its original programming, but there is hope for Escape the Night to land elsewhere. Cobra Kai just found a new home earlier this week. Fans also want a special fan season of the murder mystery series, and there is a sign up for that as well. This series is not dead yet.

‘Ozark’ Renewed For Supersized Fourth & Final Season By NetflixThe saga of the Byrde family will soon be coming to an end after Netflix renewed Ozark for an expanded fourth and final season. The drama, which stars Jason Bateman, Laura Linney and Julia Garner, has been renewed for 14 final episodes with the season split into two seven-episode parts. [...] Chris Mundy will return as showrunner, writer and executive producer and will reunite with Bateman as the creative force behind both parts of the new season. Produced by MRC Television, it is exec produced by Bateman, Mundy, Mark Williams, John Shiban, Patrick Markey and Bill Dubuque. Linney will also be a Co-Executive Producer for Season 4. The show has been a slow-burning hit for Netflix, which revealed during its first-quarter financial results that the third season was set to be viewed by just under 30M in the first four weeks after its March 27 premiere. [...] The streaming platform did not reveal when it plans to air the final run of Ozark but it will likely not be until 2021 at the earliest, depending on how long the COVID-19 production shutdown lasts. Of the renewal, Bateman said, “A super-sized season means super-sized problems for the Byrdes. I’m excited to end with a bang(s).”

‘Dead To Me’ Renewed For Third & Final Season; Creator Liz Feldman Inks Overall Deal With NetflixNetflix has renewed its popular dark comedy Dead To Me for a third season. Series creator Liz Feldman will return as executive producer/showrunner under a big overall deal she has signed with the streamer. Under the multi-year pact, Feldman will also develop new original series and other projects for Netflix. Dead To Me stems from an overall deal Feldman previously had at CBS Television Studios, which produces the praised comedy and I hear bid to keep Feldman in the fold. Dead to Me, starring Christina Applegate, Linda Cardellini and James Marsden, has been a breakout commercial and critical hit. Its first season was watched by 30M households in its first month, ranked fourth on Netflix’s Top 10 Most Popular Series of 2019 in the U.S. and scored Applegate an Emmy nomination. “From start to finish, Dead To Me is exactly the show I wanted to make. And it’s been an incredible gift,” Feldman said. “Telling a story sprung from grief and loss has stretched me as an artist and healed me as a human. I’ll be forever indebted to my partners in crime, my friends for life, Christina and Linda, and our brilliantly talented writers, cast and crew. I am beyond grateful to Netflix for supporting Dead To Me from day one, and I’m thrilled to continue our collaboration.” Said Applegate about the decision to end the series, which revolves around her character Jen and Cardellimi’s Judy, “We felt this was the best way to tie up the story of these women.” Feldman executive produces Dead To Me with Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell for Gloria Sanchez Prods., Christie Smith, Applegate and Adam McKay. Cardellini serves as co-executive producer.

‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ Canceled at Netflix, Part Four to Premiere Later in 2020“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” will end with a part four on Netflix later this year. Netflix and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa made the announcement on Wednesday night. “Working on ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ has been an incredible honor from day one. The cast, beginning with Kiernan as everyone’s favorite teen witch, has been an absolute joy. I am beyond thankful to the crew, writers, editors, assistants, and everyone for pouring so much love into this dark dream of a show,” said Aguirre-Sacasa. “I’m also grateful to our partners at Netflix, Warner Bros., Berlanti Television and Archie Comics for letting us tell the story we wanted to tell, the way we wanted to tell it. We can’t wait for everyone to see Part Four.” [...] “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” was originally developed at The CW as a companion series to “Riverdale,” but was moved to Netflix with part one released in 2018. The cancellation news comes after fellow “Riverdale” spinoff “Katy Keene” was canceled last week after one season. The show’s Twitter account also released several images from the upcoming final part.

Kidding: Cancelled by Showtime, No Season Three for Jim Carrey TV SeriesShowtime isn’t kidding around any longer. Better brace yourself... Live PD: Cancelled; No Season Five for A&E TV SeriesIt’s not often that a channel will cancel its highest-rated series. Less than a month ago, A&E was touting the Live PD TV show’s great ratings.
A&E Sees Viewership Drop 49% After Canceling Live PD https://www.forbes.com/sites/rosaescand … g-live-pd/ While the shows had low production costs, they brought in $292.6 million in advertising, according to ad-tracking firm Kantar Media in 2019.
I hope that financial loss hurts so much that they'll bring the show back in some form. I surely would want $100+ million profit a year!

After Life: Netflix Series to End with Season ThreeAfter Life has a little more life in it. As previously reported, the Netflix series will return for a third season. Ricky Gervais recently revealed that he has already written the episodes for season three, but there won’t be a fourth season. Per The Mirror, he said the following about the end of the Netflix series: “I’ve already made my mind up there won’t be a four. And you do put those things out there to make you remember as it’s tempting but… there’s an old saying that ‘to lead the orchestra, you’ve got to turn your back on the audience’. That’s true. The audience think they want another one, but they’re not sure. So you’ve got to be careful.”

‘Siren’ Canceled By Freeform After 3 SeasonsFreeform’s Siren has come to an end as the network has opted not to pick up a fourth season of the mermaid drama. The news comes more than two months after the May 28 Season 3 finale. The cancellation marks a reversal of fortune for Siren, which made a splashy debut in 2018. It was a breakout hit in Season 1 and its second season ranked as Freeform’s most-watched series of the year. Despite a double-digit ratings drop in Season 3, Siren remained the most watched Freeform original series in linear ratings. [...] Alex Roe, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Ian Verdun and Rena Owen also starred. The series was executive produced by Emily Whitesell and Wald.

‘High Fidelity’ Canceled By Hulu After One SeasonHigh Fidelity, starring and executive produced by Zoë Kravitz, will not be getting a second season on Hulu. I hear the cast and production team of the series, a reimagining of Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel and the 2000 John Cusack movie, were notified of the cancellation today. The decision was not easy and came after lengthy deliberations, I hear. The show, which has been well received by critics and is headlined by a big star with a massive following in Kravitz, had internal support at Hulu, whose brass took extra time to mull a potential renewal, with sibling ABC Signature extending the options on the cast by a month to accommodate that. In the end, the streamer opted not to proceed with a second season. Finding another home for the show is considered a long shot, I hear. High Fidelity was one of two series based on movies to launch on Hulu this year after being originally developed at Disney+. The other, Love, Victor, looks promising for a renewal.

Re: Ending or Canceled TV Shows for the 2023-24 Season
‘The Society’ & ‘I Am Not Okay With This’ Canceled By Netflix Due To COVID-Related CircumstancesNetflix has reversed its Season 2 renewal decision for The Society. The YA drama, whose production was impacted by COVID-19, has been canceled and won’t film a second season. Additionally, Netflix has opted not to proceed with a second season of another coming-of-age series, I Am Not Okay With This. While there had been no official renewal, I hear comedy-drama I Am Not Okay With This had been quietly picked up for a second season, scripts were written, and it was fully on track to go into production. The Society was renewed last summer for a second season, which had been slated to premiere in late 2020. I hear the delayed season had been eyeing potential start of filming next month. According to sources, uncertainty around production dates and balancing the availabilities of a large cast like The Society, coupled with unexpected budget increases due to COVID led to the decisions on The Society and I Am Not Okay With This, which had been both well received by critics and fans and had strong support at Netflix. “We’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with second seasons of The Society and I Am Not Okay With This,” Netflix said in a statement to Deadline. “We’re disappointed to have to make these decisions due to circumstances created by COVID, and we are grateful to these creators, including: Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for I Am Not Okay With This; Chris Keyser, Marc Webb and Pavlina Hatoupis for The Society; and all the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the world.” This is something we will likely see more of as the months-long Hollywood shutdown due to the pandemic will create a logjam when trying to ease all series impacted by the shutdown back into production while mitigating higher production costs due to strict COVID-19 safety protocols and losses from the pandemic. Streamers and tech companies in general have been better positioned than traditional media companies in navigating the financial impact from the pandemic.

‘Tosh.0’ To End With 12th Season As Comedy Central Continues Shift To Animation; ViacomCBS & Daniel Tosh Will Shop SeriesTosh.0 has become the latest Comedy Central live-action series to come to an end as the ViacomCBS network makes a hard pivot to adult animation. The show created and hosted by comedian Daniel Tosh will end after its upcoming 12th season. ViacomCBS and Tosh plan to shop the series to other networks and digital platforms. This comes 24 hours after it emerged that Drunk History will not be moving forward with its seventh season. Tosh.0, which looks at the ever-changing social media landscape, is Comedy Central’s longest-running weekly live-action show. Including the 12th season, which begins September 15, it will reach 300 episodes, having run for 11 years. The final season will feature 10 episodes with its finale on November 24.

Younger: Season Seven to End the TV Land SeriesIt seems that the end is near for the Younger TV show. According to one of the show’s actors, there won’t be an eighth season of the TV Land series. [...] The sixth season of Younger averaged a 0.13 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 580,000 viewers. Compared to season five, that’s down by 39% and 14%, respectively. Season six finished airing in September 2019. Younger was renewed for a seventh season in July 2019 and, according to Duff, that will be the end of the show. In a recent interview, Duff shared, It has been tough because I’m supposed to be in New York right now filming last season, and we have been on hold for quite a few months. Things are starting to shoot in New York and open back up again. I think production is feeling confident that in the next month or two we can get back to our schedule and shoot our last season. Due to the ongoing pandemic, Huff says that the cast hasn’t been able to read scripts for the final episodes. The actress is confident that series creator Darren Starr will deliver a satisfying ending. She said, He writes amazing (scripts) for women and we feel so empowered to be on the show and to be playing the women that we are playing. They’re all very different, but with very strong and flawed qualities — so I’m sure this last season will not disappoint. While Younger may be coming to an end, a spin-off that revolves around Duff’s character is in the works.

Re: Ending or Canceled TV Shows for the 2023-24 Season
Andrea Savage’s ‘I’m Sorry’ Won’t Proceed With Season 3 Due To COVID; Canceled By TruTV After 2 SeasonsTruTV has opted not to go ahead with the previously greenlighted season of scripted comedy I’m Sorry, created by and starring Andrea Savage. The well-received series had been renewed for a 10-episode third season to air in 2020. “Due to circumstances created by COVID, we unfortunately cannot move forward with production on the third season of I’m Sorry,” the network said in a statement to Deadline. “We admire Andrea Savage’s irreverent voice and fresh take on parenthood and are so proud of the show she and her cast and crew created. She was a great partner for many years and we truly wish everyone well.” I hear I’m Sorry was two weeks into filming Season 3 when all Hollywood production was shut down in mid-March. All 10 scripts for the new season have been written, and Savage and the show’s other producers were contemplating scenarios for resuming production when the call came from the network that I’m Sorry has been canceled. I hear it caught everyone off-guard. “We are heartbroken. This has been my second baby for almost 5 years,” said Savage, a mother of one. “While I wish people would be able to see the wonderful 10 episodes we wrote this season, I am so proud of the show we created. It is exactly the show I wanted to make and am devastated it’s not continuing. I also want to thank all of our fans for supporting us so incredibly over these past few years. We couldn’t have done it without you!” The cancellation of I’m Sorry follows a similar decision by Netflix not to proceed with previously greenlighted and fully written seasons of two YA series, The Society and I Am Not OK With This “due to circumstances created by COVID.” Those reversals also reportedly blindsided the creators like the I’m Sorry one did. As we wrote at the time, this is something we will likely see more of as the months-long Hollywood shutdown due to the pandemic will create a logjam when trying to ease all series impacted by the shutdown back into production while navigating actors’ schedules and mitigating higher production costs due to strict COVID-19 safety protocols as well as significant financial hits from the pandemic. The decision on I’m Sorry is likely a combination of the impact from COVID and the major changes and belt-tightening at TruTV parent WarnerMedia, which has been going through major restructuring and cost-cutting. I’m Sorry, from Gloria Sanchez, A24 and Lonely Island, was part of TruTV’s rebrand as a comedy network with a distinct point of view. The WarnerMedia ad-supported cable networks have all been pairing down their scripted series portfolios over the past year or so amid declining lieanr TV ratings. TruTV still has At Home With Amy Sedaris and just renewed breakout Tacoma FD for a third season. I’m Sorry, which grew its audience in Season 2 vs. Season 1 per TruTV, has been lauded for its nuanced TV mom portrayal. It follows Andrea (played by Savage), a confident comedy writer, wife and mom who comically exposes her inner immaturity and neuroses through unexpected life situations. She is joined by her husband Mike (Tom Everett Scott), their inquisitive daughter Amelia (Olive Petrucci) and her divorced parents (Kathy Baker and Martin Mull), as well as a close circle of friends. I’m Sorry is executive produced by Savage, Joey Slamon, A24’s Ravi Nandan, Gloria Sanchez’s Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, and Lonely Island’s Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer.

A couple more bites the dust...
‘NOS4A2’ Canceled After Two Seasons By AMCThere will be no third season for AMC’s supernatural horror series NOSA42, Deadline has confirmed. Showrunner and executive producer Jami O’Brien shared the news Monday on Twitter, and the network confirmed the cancellation. “Well friends, I heard from AMC last week,” O’Brien wrote. “We won’t be making a 3rd season of #NOS4A2. It’s a bummer, but I’m grateful we were at least able to finish adapting the storyline from Joe Hill’s terrific novel… CONGRATULATIONS to every single member of our phenomenal team on two seasons of weird and wonderful TV. I will miss seeing everyone back in Little Rhody this year, but I’m awfully proud of all we’ve done together.” See her four-tweet post below. “Christmasland may live forever, but NOS4A2 will come to an end with the conclusion of season two,” AMC said in a statement Monday. “We are so thankful to Jami O’Brien, Joe Hill and the entire cast and crew for two seasons of inspired, terrifying and thoroughly captivating and age-defying television. And thanks to the fans for climbing into the Wraith and coming along for the ride.” NOSA42 performed well in ratings in its first season but saw declines in Season 2. The second season averaged about 800,000 total viewers per episode and 350,000 adults 25-54 in Nielsen Live+3. That’s about half as many as watched the first season, even with all Season 2 episodes being simulcast on AMC and BBC America. [...]

Netflix’s ‘Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love’ & ‘The Big Show Show’ To End Runs With Christmas SpecialsEXCLUSIVE: Netflix has opted not to order second seasons of multi-camera family sitcoms Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love and The Big Show Show. Fans will get one more original episode of each shows as the streamer had commissioned special Christmas episodes of both comedies to be released this December. These are not series finales. The special stand-alone Christmas episodes were filmed before the pandemic and do not continue the storylines from the previous seasons. The produced episodes of Ashley Garcia and The Big Show Show will continue to be available on Netflix. Multi-camera comedy is probably the genre most dependable on cast chemistry. That is something that can be tested in a pilot, something that does not fit into Netflix’s model, which is built on straight-to-series orders.

It also got off to a strong TV ratings start, with the January 15 premiere drawing 2 million viewers in Live+3 Nielsen numbers to mark the most-watched cable drama series premiere in the metric since November 2018. Following the promising premiere the ratings slipped, however, and overall the series ranked outside of the Top 100 in total viewers, adults 18-49 and 25-54 year-to-date (Live+3). 68 Whiskey‘s cancellation leaves powerhouse Yellowstone as Paramount Network’s only current original scripted series. The net’s dramedy Emily In Paris recently relocated to Netflix. Paramount Network earlier this year gave a series order to drama Coyote starring Michael Chiklis. Based on the blockbuster success of Yellowstone, Paramount Network, now part of ViacomCBS’ Entertainment and Youth Group, is focusing on noisy titles headlined by big stars.

Re: Ending or Canceled TV Shows for the 2023-24 Season
The Walking Dead: Season 11 to End AMC Series But Spin-Offs in the WorksAMC has announced that The Walking Dead TV show is coming to a close but the story is far from over. The cable channel revealed that the series will end with an expanded 11th season of 24 episodes which will be aired over two years. AMC previously ordered six extra installments for season 10 so there are still 30 episodes yet to come. The show is expected to air its season finale in 2022. In addition, AMC has greenlit an as yet untitled spin-off series which will focus on Walking Dead’s Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) characters. That series is expected to launch in 2023. An anthology series, titled Tales of the Walking Dead, is also being developed. That series would tell stories of new or existing characters from the Walking Dead universe. In the immediate future, Fear the Walking Dead returns for its sixth season on October 11th while new series The Walking Dead: World Beyond launches on October 4th, following the 10th season “finale” (six more installments of season 10 will be released in 2021) of The Walking Dead.

‘Doc Martin’: British Drama Starring Martin Clunes To End With Tenth SeasonDoc Martin, starring Martin Clunes as the grumpy British doctor, is to hang up his stethoscope next year with the tenth and final season of the UK drama. ITV has renewed the series, which airs on Acorn TV in the U.S., for a final run with production set to start in 2021. [...] Created by Dominic Minghella, Doc Martin has been on air since 2004. It is produced by Buffalo Pictures and executive produced by Mark Crowdy. Clunes and his wife, producer Philippa Braithwaite, said: “We have loved making nine series of Doc Martin. When we launched the series in 2004, we could never have imagined how much our loyal viewers would take to the grumpy Doc like they have. The series has avid fans both in the UK and throughout the world and we are thrilled that Doc Martin has topped the ratings every time. However, after sixteen years we now feel that the time has come to say goodbye to Portwenn. We will be making the tenth and final series in 2021 and we are very much looking forward to returning to Cornwall to film it.” ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill added, “I just want to thank Martin and Philippa and everyone involved in Doc Martin because it’s a brilliant, beautifully made series that has delighted audiences for many years. I am pleased that we are making Series 10, and sad this will be the last, but respect their decision to bring it to a close.”

Amazon’s ‘Cortés y Moctezuma’ Miniseries Starring Javier Bardem Not Going Forward, Casualty Of COVID-19EXCLUSIVE: Amazon has scrapped plans to resume production and complete Cortés y Moctezuma, its epic four-hour miniseries starring and executive produced by Oscar winner Javier Bardem and executive produced by Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna. The Amazon Studios/Amblin Partners project, described as the largest Spanish-language production of all time, was two weeks into filming in Mexico when it was shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic. Written by Oscar winner Steve Zaillian, it also starred Tenoch Huerta and Yoshira Escárrega. “Due to the production constraints created by the COVID-19 global pandemic, Amazon Studios and Amblin Partners are unable to move forward with production on our Cortés y Moctezuma series,” the two companies said in a statement to Deadline. “In the current climate, there is unfortunately no way to remount the production in the near future to achieve the scale and scope that was intended and that the series deserves. We have nothing but admiration and respect for Javier, Tenoch, Yoshira, Gael, Diego, Steve Zaillian, and the entire cast and crew of the series and hope we can work together again in the future.”
