Watched 1x1 and enjoyed it - wasn't sure about the beginning, but then it all came together quite nicely. Will continue to watch.

Re: Stargirl [Action, Adventure, Crime]
Count me in as well. I'm definitely up for more, and while you're at it, add some more of those rainbow sprinkles on top too, and don't forget the cherry. I mean, talk about starting things with a bang. It's pretty clear from the pilot that this series will enjoy quality production that appears to be in the same zip code as Titans and Doom Patrol. The special effects were fantastic. The polished cinematography along with the well-choreographed action sequences gives you that big-budget feel in an era of peak TV. The opening felt like a big-budget film of sorts, with a rogues' gallery of adversaries, and a whole mess more of Golden Age goodness for comic book fans to drool over. Judging by the comments from early screeners, we can expect to see this type of quality throughout the next three episodes. The Amblin-esque 80's vibe lit up the most nostalgic part of my brain a couple of mins into the series premiere. I'm talking Back to the Future meets E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial vibes all over the place. Based on the pilot, it seems like this series wants to have a reverence and love for a simpler time, yet still firmly plants itself in the modern with a similar, but more guarded sense of optimism. I want more of this!

My favorite quote from the episode was from Joel McHale (Starman/Star-Spangled Kid), "Just Not You." I have to admit that moment was super silly and I was hesitant about how the rest of the ep was going to play out but as it was pretty entertaining, in retrospect, the line makes me smile even now. Sad that Ted & Jack Knight, the comic book Starmen, weren't in it (or mentioned) but with everything they did have it's a small nit and not worth picking. Though I would love a Starman series based on the James Robinson run.

Re: Stargirl [Action, Adventure, Crime]
I dont know if any one here is into podcasts - they are often just opportunities fro self indulgence? But there is one for Stargirl that might be worth a listen called Stargirl Aftershow ( Fandom Limb Media) The guy Shaun is a graphic artist by profession and apparently worked on the show and is able to give insights in what we see that couldn't be guessed at. eg the Blue Valley banner over the town as they enter is cgi & there is a reason why it had to be cgi. And what are the stars that appear when Courtney is in her room. Or the election poster as they are walking down the street in the beginning? And the big one is one of the pictures on Courtney's picture board at the start. Apparently the DC comics version is a full 60 minutes long compared to the CW version Worth a listen if you like that sort of thing

You might want to edit your post and add the actual link. While that kind of info often is interesting, I'm not willing to listen to a podcast to get it. I prefer text because it offers more info per minute spent. Feel free to share some of the knowledge you've gained here. ▼Spoiler Please use spoiler tags when needed.

merc_1 I've mostly enjoyed 1x2, I'm just a little bit concerned the show ends up being a bit too family-friendly to reach its full potential. Guess we'll see...

well you might be disappointed as the show is a memorial to the creators sister who died in a plane accident. she appears in a picture on the picture board in esp 1, sitting on a bench with s.g

Well technically, the character is based on her. The show is based on the character, but since the show's creator is apparently also the writer who originally created the comic book character, it might also still be true. Actually... that is an interesting detail on its own. Have we had any notable comic book adaptions made by the original authors before? Anyhow, this show seems quite alright so far.

Quite a few, but it depends on what you mean "notable"

I mean "notable" as in "anything with a budget" and "about a character that has actually been around for a while and might be recognized by some". As a writer, yeah, that happens every so often. But the original creator of a character also having creative control over the adaption many years later? Examples?

A memorial doesn't have to be family-friendly... merc_1 wrote:she appears in a picture on the picture board in esp 1, sitting on a bench with s.g
Thanks for sharing that detail. I've reviewed that scene and when you pause it, it's a quite obvious Photoshop edit.

In eps 1 when courtney turns away from the window at night certain stars light up - the constellation of Virgo, the symbol of the maiden that is typically linked to Dike, the Greek goddess of justice

Ah, thanks... I thought that scene was a bit weird - with no explanation...

I was listening to one of the podcast mentioned above and it seems Geoff Johns recommends the show as something the whole family should watch together....

Re: Stargirl [Action, Adventure, Crime]
Stargirl Aftershow ( Fandom Limb Media) This podcast has a number of pre-cast deep background discussions of eg the history of stargirl/man, The Justice Society of America and the Injustice Society from the point of view of dc comics going back to the 1940s, tracing how stories and characters have been re invented eg Silvester Pemberton was never Starman nor the star spangled kid before Geof Johns version. In fact that was stargirl before she got the staff., given her by the son of the guy who made the staff in the first place as he judged her worthy. It seems that the J.S.A was on earth 2 with the Justice LEAGUE of america on earth 1. The characters of Geof John's new J.S.A come from a socalled Infinity Inc group that were refused entrance to the J.S.A at first - silvester pemberton went off with them as leader; these arose from the comic version of Crisis on Infinite Earths ( dealt with on tv). SO for those ( like me) who dont read the comics could find this invaluable. One thing this podcast has over many others is that since the compere actually worked on the show he has access to interviews with the actors. eg eps 3 was with Icicle- an english actor by the way! ▼Spoiler who discusess the character of his role. eg The so called Injustice Society of America ( the baddies) is not just the opposite of the J.S.A but Jordans desire to deal with INJUSTICES ( eg the people who killed his wife) so in a way the same as the J.S.A ( but gone wrong) so from his point of view is a moral crusade. This ambiguity clearly comes out in the eps? his support for the theatre in Blue Valley as a way to bring the town together, but then quite happy to kill off a bus load of kids in his alterego. As the actor says, evil people dont just decide oh lets go out and do something evil today, they think what they are doing is justified however twisted that might be

Re: Stargirl [Action, Adventure, Crime]
One of the things that makes this show interesting is it is taking seriously that Stargirl is just 15, so eps 4 where Wild Cat is introduced, has her talk and act more like some one that age. quote of the day Stargirl to Yolanda - I am a super hero.I have a costume and EVERYTHING! Yolanda - Oh God........
