Topic: The Witcher

Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family.

Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

So far an awesome show. I recognise my version of Geralt from the games rather than the books, and the lead made it translate well into TV.

If you like fantasy series go check this out.

Re: The Witcher

3 episodes in, expected a dumpster fire, was pleasantly suprised at how good it is.

Re: The Witcher

Agreed. I'm a few more eps in and this series has outdone itself. I read they already picked the show up for a second season, I feel it has a lot more seasons to go as well.

Re: The Witcher

Season 1 is basically two collections of short stories cramed together and season 2 will start with Book 1 of 5.

Those stories are tying it all together really nicely for me, glad they did it this way.

Re: The Witcher

Great season 1, except for the entire editing.  There is no way to tell if a scene is a flashback or not, especially when they last half the episode

Confused the hell out of me the first time.  Some one died in ep1, then had a whole story in ep4.  I thought I was watching them out of order.

Re: The Witcher

I wouldn't call them flashbacks, just three separate storylines until all of them met up at the end.

Well, it was bloody confusing and very silly.

Confusing indeed, made worse by the fact that visibly aging over the course of decades does not seem to be a thing in this show's universe.

It was still a pretty enjoyable show though.
If we start getting adaptions of actual books instead of just short stories in season 2, this might just get quite interesting.

I had no problem with it.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I would like to award best "Fuck" ever said on TV to Geralt of Rivia after some Law of Surprise shenanigans.

"But what I can offer you is the law of surprise. That which I have but don't know."

I one hundred percent get where you're coming from. The first episode is slow and just feels like a very long cutscene of exposition from one of the games. Episode two picks up though and it's great after that.

I decided not to comment until I finished 1x4, which I did just now. Yes, it's a little bit confusing, but somehow it adds to the show in how well it's done... those "Aaaah, now I get it!" moments are always great. smile

Yeah, "aging characters properly" is something that could have been done better. I noticed the same flaw in two other shows this year.

10 full minutes? cool You might want to work on your delayed gratification skill:

The seminal research on delayed gratification – the now-famous "marshmallow experiment" – was conducted by Walter Mischel in the 1960s and 1970s at Stanford University.
[...]
The children who waited longer, when re-evaluated as teenagers and adults, demonstrated a striking array of advantages over their peers. As teenagers, they had higher SAT scores, social competence, self-assuredness and self-worth, and were rated by their parents as more mature, better able to cope with stress, more likely to plan ahead, and more likely to use reason. They were less likely to have conduct disorders or high levels of impulsivity, aggressiveness and hyperactivity. As adults, the high delayers were less likely to have drug problems or other addictive behaviors, get divorced, or be overweight. Each minute that a preschooler was able to delay gratification translated to a .2% reduction in Body Mass Index 30 years later.

Better? At all.

Re: The Witcher

I agree with the confusing comments and the ageing with the flashbacks. My wife was really confused and gave up on it. I watched all the episodes but don't think I will bother with series 2 if there is one.

Re: The Witcher

Sure, we all know and love the mutants and mages of The Witcher, but there’s one group we don’t pay enough attention to: its amazing monsters. Here’s everything about them in one giant bestiary — from their mythological origins to their (many, horrifying) ways of killing Geralt. After seeing all he has to deal with, maybe toss an extra coin to your Witcher?
