Re: Random movies discussion

Thanks, looks promising!

I've watched Avengers: Endgame (2019) and was really disappointed by the first 90 minutes or so. Was that a secretive attempt to sell more antidepressants? At that point I was planning to rate it subpar. Fortunately, the last hour was really good, but in my opinion the whole movie should have been 90 to 100 minutes in length, not 3 hours!

But I may not be representative: "Avengers: Endgame overtakes Avatar as the most successful movie at the global box office" https://guinnessworldrecords.com/news/2 … ox-584354/

But only with help of a re-release and of course it's not inflation-adjusted, so Avatar has still much more individual viewers.

Agreed Avatar is better then Endgame.
Endgame wouldnt have reached Avatars record with around 50 million $ short or so and therefore Disney re-released Endgame with new scenes so that the Fans went back to the cinemas to help overtake Avatar.

Avatar was a fantastic movie and a technical achievement for 2009.
Endgame was alright, i prefered Infnity War over it tho

I agree, Avatar was "Wow!" back then, Endgame was more like "Yeah, nice CGI... (now let me pause here and take a break)." smile

The thing is... it is not really fair to compare either of them to any other movie, and neither to each other.

With Endgame they "cheated" insofar as they just wouldn't take "no" for an answer and would probably just have kept re-releasing it forever;
However, Avatar also had a major unfair advantage: the 3D tech. It just was not a thing like that at the time, and a lot of (if not most) people, including myself, only went to see it to see what all the fuss is about in the first place...

I'd just give the title to the third and fourth ranking movies instead.
That, interestingly, still leaves us with one James Cameron and one Disney-acquisition movie anyways.
