Topic: Automatically figure out shows that people who watch a show watch
This might require getting hold of someone who is good at stats and data mining (the truly anonymous kind), but you have all these watchlists for all your users. Currently, you have a way to vote for similar shows, but something that I've seen other places (for instance, music sties) that is kinda cool is to take all those watchlists and find that people who tend to watch show "A" also tend to watch shows "B," "C," and "D." It might even occasionally surface some surprising connections!

Re: Automatically figure out shows that people who watch a show watch
That would be interesting. It's something you see often with on-line retail purchasing. "People who bought this item also purchased..A,B,C." I suppose there is that similar algorithm (as you've stated) already in place at the bottom of Show Info pages, where it says for example : If You Like Manifest You May Also Like : And there is a link to suggest other shows people may like if they like the one being browsed.. On IMDb, if the "Watchlists" are public, you can browse other member's preferences, but I suppose that requires more leg work, etc.

Re: Automatically figure out shows that people who watch a show watch
This already exists, and is generated by user suggestions. For example, looking at Barry (https://next-episode.net/barry), at the bottom of the information there are three suggestions under "If you like Barry you may also like"
DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom". http://xkcd.com/488/

Re: Automatically figure out shows that people who watch a show watch
It's not what he meant. These "you may also like" are added manually by some small percentage of people, who shares what in their opinion are similar shows. The OP's idea is to automatically give suggestions, based on similarities with other watchlists. It's by no means the simplest thing to do, but certainly doable. Things like this also would be, imo, with the most value on this site. Ratings part I also would refactor, current algorithm has bunch of flaws - for example, I often see Anime in top rated shows, but simple query that I have zero Anime shows in my watchlist, already could improve it. In this case also the user rating of the show should be taken into account, otherwise suggestion would include shows that user has dropped and actually don't consider good.

Here watchlists also can be public, if you have enabled that in the settings: https://next-episode.net/user/kurschnextepisode Tho I don't think that there are a normal urls somewhere to this. And again, that view is missing USER rating. For example, here https://next-episode.net/user/g371 I have Tell Me a Story, which I actually have not seen. It says rating there 4.4, but my rating easy can be 1. This feature is nice when some friends ask you what show to watch, I just give then this url and help yourself

Solid work of 15+ years It seems a lot, but if you think about it, I don't spend time on watching commercials etc., I don't even have a cable. Plus from 61 of my shows I have not seen from at least one to all episodes.

Re: Automatically figure out shows that people who watch a show watch
We actually used to have a feature exactly like the one OP is suggesting. Wizard possibly remembers it. I always wanted to bring it back, and eventually I will. Thanks for reminding me about that!

I did mention that that exists in my original post.

Hey thanks for that and for being generally helpful. I'm fairly new to navigating this and not a ton of time to devote... If you're willing, perhaps help me with a few tips as needed, such as how to partial quote when replying to messages ? Not sure if it's my lack of "navigation savvy" or of a premium membership that most limits my access to features....if you get my drift. What's really cool is if you do have somebody willing to send a watchlist link or know how to access them, you can then sort and/or filter them as you like (both watching, inactive, etc). And yes, unlike IMDb, you can't see individual ratings of said "watched" shows, so although a show's on your list you may actually think it's crap . Anyhow, appreciate the help. Peace.

I came in here thinking this was a forum game - "figure out what show the guy above probably watches"

While a premium membership is highly recommended (and I don't get paid for saying so), it doesn't affect quoting. Just click on "Quick quote" and in the "Write message" box, remove everything that's not relevant for your reply. Then click "Preview" to make sure your post will look good, then click "Submit reply". For training purposes, quote me but remove your original text "If you're willing ..." and also this line, only quote the rest.

Partial quoting in the forum is just manually deleting irrelevant text between quote opening and closing tags, it's an oldschool unwritten forums etiquette (the idea is that it makes easier for others to follow a discussion) Like in this reply I left just one sentence of your post to what I'm replying and deleted the rest. When I saw that somebody mentioned it, I knew straight away that some people won't understand what that means

Yeah I emailed you a few days ago but...nothin back so... In the email I asked if it was simply deleting unwanted text. I understand the reasons for the "golden rule" , just required instruction in order to comply. Like saying, 'No French Allowed' when all somebody speaks is French. Haha. Anyway, I think my initial attempts failed because of the quote tags thing . Let's see how well I've learned English. Yeah man, I'm totally familiar with using the preview as a tool. I just didn't think deleting that one box was that big of deal as it still fulfilled the purpose of shortening all past correspondence, but still pointed out there was a previous response from kurschnextepisode. ...and Manifest is renewed for another season btw. lol jk. Peace.

Yeah I get the concept and reasons for it. I just needed a little instruction in order to comply. I do possess some initiative . The quote tags bit was the piece I was missing. Thanks.

Weird, does the forum show you my email address? Anyway, I didn't get any mail. And I prefer to discuss it here. You're almost done! See how it's saying "kurschnextepisode wrote:" with nothing else in your post? Click "Edit" and try to fix that. And again I want to point you to the "Preview" button while writing/ editing, which is important when learning.

Oh also, I suppose I should say PM rather than email. In my Outbox it shows the 2 messages I sent you, but nothing in my Inbox. There really is no "email" (as far as on my end), and the PM option is email, for all intents and purposes.
