Topic: search engine needs help text on the page.

i don't update the "search engines" in my settings often enough to remember what i have to do, all the minutia of the search strings, etc

so it would be good to have the instructions there on the page.

Re: search engine needs help text on the page.

No, I get it. The tips are there only if you don't have any search engine setup. If you do - there are no instructions.

Will see what I can do about it.

Re: search engine needs help text on the page.

Yes Please do so. I accidently deleted mine and now have massive problems. HELP!!!!!
Btw is the help section gone, or do i simply need glasses?

...Its all been said before!

Re: search engine needs help text on the page.

Yea, the help section was too outdated, so I turned it off until I can update it.

I've added an example url to where you're adding new search engines, so I hope this will help.

Let me know.

Re: search engine needs help text on the page.

4 years have passed and setting a good search engine is still a mystery.

Could we have a sticky that users can share **succesful** search engine setups?

Re: search engine needs help text on the page.

Have you setup at least one search engine? If not - what seems to be the problem with setting up one?

Yes, I had a couple that worked "way back" that I did not create --- they were there (somewhere easy to find) on your site.

Most of those had some sort of issue over time (ie shutdown/ address changes) -- and I tried setting up current versions per the example.  Most recently, I tried playing with the "+" space options.

No joy

Now I get 404 not found -- and 522 timeout --- or (rarely) the home page of search engine where I need to manually do the search

The Pirate Bay down? big_smile

Btw, search engines section could use the ordering of the search engines.

To add the search engine:

1) Go to the site you want to add - for example, www.youtube.com
2) Enter any search phrase with two words in that site's search (in some sites you also might want to specify to search in the single category, ordering of the results etc.)
3) Copy the url from the search results (from the browser address bar), ex.:

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=firstword+secondword

4) Look if between the words you searched there is a "+" symbol in the search results url
5) Paste the url you copied in url input in Add Search Engine page and replace the search query with the show name tag, ex.:

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=#show_name#

6) If there was a "+" between words in the search result, check the "Encode spaces with a '+' (instead of %20)" checkbox
7) Name the search and save
8) Go steal some series (using automatically generated search urls in the Episodes section or in the single show pages), oops, I meant go read the show's IMDB pages

P.S. This is 2nd best feature on this site after episodes tracking.
