Re: The Expanse
Suasor wrote:The Expanse ought to be a good fit for a streaming outfit. Currently Amazon has streaming rights for the US while Netflix has the international rights. Meanwhile Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a fan favorite comedy that also got cancelled, got picked up by a streamer operation. Whatever happens here it will be a useful lesson for others pitching SF programming. BTW, I thought Lost In Space and most other new SF shows were generally better than expected. The show runners and production companies pay a lot more attention to the fans than back in the pre-Internet days. A decade ago a lot of fans were surprised to discover that the writers, directors, showrunners and many actors were lurking (or even posting) on message boards. That has paid off because there have been a lot fewer braindead SF shows. Now if we only had more SF fans...
+1 for Lost In Space (2018). This caught me by surprise, not because I didn't know about it, but because I had no idea it was going to be that good. Phenomenal first season that was cheesy, funny, exciting, thrilling and interesting, with a superb ending. The entire cast was solid, the FX were top-shelf and the survival-related drama comes at a steady pace, with some episodes (the pilot included) delivering no less than white-knuckle sequences. An excellent opening to a great sci-fi family fare that should be equally (if not more) as stellar its second trip around. Oh, and that intro happens to be my new ringtone. Bravo! BTW, Netflix has been knocking it out of the park lately with it's serial sci-fi offerings and they even went on record stating that they want that trend to continue with even more additions to their roster. I don't think I need to spell out what needs to come next if they really want to blow the lid off. Update Fellow Belters, Martians, and Earthers, great news has been bestowed upon us!! Jeff Bezos just announced that they are picking up The Expanse.
May 26, 2018 — We did it! Thanks to the incredible, historic efforts of the cast, crew and fans of the critically acclaimed sci-fi epic, “The Expanse,” the television show has been resurrected by Amazon Studios and Alcon Entertainment for a fourth season. Just two weeks after being cancelled by Syfy, the massive grassroots effort that followed the news achieved its goal in saving the series, which is now set to appear on Amazon Prime. At ISDC in Los Angeles on May 25, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced the big news, telling the gathering that, “I was talking to the cast half an hour ago, before the break for dinner started. I was telling them that we are working hard at Amazon to save The Expanse but it wasn’t a done deal yet. During dinner, ten minutes ago, I just got word that The Expanse is saved,” Bezos said to a big applause. “The show is extraordinary and these guys are unbelievably talented,” he added, pointing to The Expanse table.” The decision came amid confirmation from Alcon that they were in talks with Amazon to #SaveTheExpanse and as fans of the show united in little more than a week to crowdfund and then fly airplane banner over Amazon Studios, gathered more than 135,000 signatures on Change.org for Amazon to pick up the show, produced stunning videos to promote the campaign and on Thursday, launched a model Roci into near-space. The efforts struck a chord with major media outlets such as Newsweek, again directly appealing to Amazon, which reported on the fan-led movement, giving it international exposure. In a statement on Reddit, #SaveTheExpanse organizers praised the cast, crew and fans for their dedication: “Fans from all over the world made a difference. Thank you to the cast and crew for creating something wonderful that has brought us all together. Cas (Alex), Wes (Amos), Jim Murray (Prop Master), and Bob Munroe (VFX/Producer, aka /u/gert_jonny) stayed connected with the fans and kept us in the loop, keeping this movement energized.” The group added, concluding, “And thank you to Alcon and Amazon, for listening to your viewers and coming to this epic decision.” If you want to thank the cast and crew for their support, tweet at them using #SAVEDTheExpanse. We did it!
change.org ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Update #14 Ratings Report: The Expanse remains steady, mid-season 0.17 rating and 625K viewers are big improvement for series This week saw a slight drop in ratings but a big boost in viewership for The Expanse. Yet, despite the slightly lower ratings number, last night’s episode hauled in the best mid-season numbers for the show since January 2016. As a result, The Expanse is now on an upward trend mid-season, which is great to see. As with last week, let’s start with the show and network. The Expanse earned a 0.17¹ rating and 625K viewers. Those are the best viewer numbers for the show since the season three premiere, which had a live rating of 0.21 and 653K viewers. Even more impressive is that, viewership wise, it’s the second best overall performance for the show since the March 1, 2017 02x06, which had a 0.22 rating and 625K viewers. The Expanse also helped out SyFy again, providing Krypton with another week of solid lead-in² numbers for its season finale. TV landscape wise, it was once again dominated by the NBA Playoffs. Expect all shows in the 8 p.m. - 10 p.m. time slot to see dips in ratings/viewership moving forward as the NBA transitions from cable to ABC for the nationally televised finals. Last week, The Expanse was ranked #37 in the top 150 original cable telecasts. Yesterday night, it was ranked #38. The dip is mostly due to the rating, but outside of a top 20 performance or a massive exodus of viewers, I wouldn’t put too much stock into these rankings. Performance wise, I would actually consider this week significantly more impactful than last week. Every season in television suffers a mid-season slump, as viewers either forget to watch, are occupied with other entertainment (the NBA Playoffs, for example), or record and watch later. For The Expanse, that has held very true. In particular, episode seven for the show has been an ugly sore spot (see below). For the past two seasons, episode seven has been the lowest rated and viewed episode. 02x07 even has the distinction of being the least viewed episode of the entire series. However, last night’s performance finally ended that trend.
So, what’s the takeaway this week? For starters, the bump in viewership seems to be a permanent addition. Barring a drastic exodus, these numbers will probably be the baseline for The Expanse moving forward. What’s so interesting about this bump is that it’s happening mid-season, usually the time where shows see large dips in viewership. Additionally, it will be interesting to see how The Expanse (and shows across all networks for that matter) compete with the upcoming NBA Finals. The Finals have been averaging around 20+ million viewers for the past three years and that probably won't change, especially with the teams involved. The Expanse has never aired during the Finals before, so it will be interesting to see the numbers. Thankfully, the Finals will be over when the season finale airs on June 27, 2018. Regardless, as long as this ratings/viewer bump keeps up, The Expanse should see great live ratings and viewing numbers by the season finale. Other Observations I know this sub isn’t a Krypton sub. However, it’s worth noting how much The Expanse helped Krypton improve its live rating/viewership bottom line. While the DC adaption has no chance of being cancelled since its live+7³ numbers are stellar, its live numbers have, without a doubt, left SyFy wanting. While the show had a great premiere, its had an average viewership drop of over -8%. For comparison, The Expanse’s first season average drop was -5.75%, and that was two and a half years ago. Then, last week happened and The Expanse saw a 50K+ viewership boost. Moreover, since The Expanse is the lead-in to Krypton, some of those viewers stayed and watched the show. Translation? Last week’s episode of Krypton had a 14.77% increase in viewership, its highest of the season. With SyFy axing The Expanse, the network is putting their faith in the young show to stand on its own. Don't be surprised if SyFy makes the mistake of placing Krypton as the lead-in for one of their new shows for the summer lineup next year. If that happens, I highly doubt Krypton survives. Definitions ¹A rating is defined as the percentage of the entire population of TV equipped homes that tune in to watch a show. ²A lead-in is when a network places an established program before a new show. The network hopes that viewers of the established show stay and watch the new one afterwards. ³Live+7 ratings measure live viewing, DVR, and VOD up to seven days later. They are usually available 2-3 weeks after the broadcast from Nielsen. ⁴Lowest viewership in show history Past Rating Reports May 16, 2018 (03x06) Ratings Report --u/galaxyfudge
r/TheExpanse Update #13 Launching The Roci Into Space. Let’s #SaveTheExpanse! Ladies and Gentlemen....the Roci went to the edge of space!!! Here's the first still. The video will be incredible. Tomorrow!!!" Update #12 The Expanse: Season Four? Amazon in Talks to Save Cancelled Syfy TV Show Syfy cancelled The Expanse TV show after three seasons, but now Amazon is reportedly very close to a deal to pick up a fourth season of the science-fiction drama series. Fans of The Expanse have been hard at work in trying to score a renewal. They even crowd-sourced cash on Go Fund Me to fly a plane bearing a #SaveTheExpanse banner over Amazon Studios in Santa Monica, CA, five days after Syfy confirmed The Expanse cancellation. A Syfy drama, based on the science-fiction novels by James S. A. Corey (the pen name for authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck), The Expanse stars Steven Strait, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham, Shawn Doyle, and Frankie Adams. The story unfolds 200 years in the future, in a colonized galaxy, when two strangers are caught up in a vast conspiracy. Producer Alcon Television Group self-finances the series and, after the cancellation, made it clear you can’t take the sky from them — at least not without a fight (sorry, Browncoats).
We’re excited, but the deal’s not closed…we’re not quite through the woods yet! Keep up the fight Expansers & watch this weeks episode LIVE with us on SyFy, we’ll be dancing in the streets right along with you as soon as we get anything official #TheExpanse #SaveTheExpanse https://t.co/cHNi3bTd8P — The Expanse Writers (@TheExpanseWR) May 21, 2018
Here’s more from THR: Amazon Studios is in talks to revive one of CEO Jeff Bezos’ favorite properties. The retailer and streaming outlet is near a deal to revive space drama The Expanse for a fourth season just 10 days after Syfy canceled the series. Amazon Studios declined comment as sources note the deal is not closed. Starring Steven Strait and based on James S.A. Comedy’s best-selling book series of the same name, Syfy had only first-run linear rights in the U.S. to The Expanse. Amazon Studios had streaming rights to the first three seasons of the show. Sources say Bezos is a big fan of the book and was livid that the TV series went to NBCUniversal-owned Syfy. The move is said to have ignited Bezos’ demand that Amazon Studios brass find the company’s version of Game of Thrones. The Expanse was a pricey swing for Syfy and the nature of the deal put additional pressure for the show to perform on its linear network as the cabler did not have either SVOD or international rights to profit from. (Netflix had international rights to the series.) The Expanse was Syfy’s first major push back into the traditional science fiction genre. […] At Amazon, The Expanse will join a growing roster of genre programming including its upcoming Lord of the Rings TV franchise, Jordan Peele’s Nazi hunting drama series, Gillian Flynn’s Utopia remake, futuristic drama The Peripheral, from Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonah Nolan; Consider Phlebas and a reboot of Hanna, among others. The Expanse move follows a busy week of news on the broadcast side that saw Brooklyn Nine-Nine move from Fox to NBC after the former’s cancellation and Fox revive Last Man Standing. In both cases, the networks’ studio counterparts owned the show making the jump to their respective home networks considerably easier. In this case, Amazon had the SVOD rights to The Expanse, making a move to a different outlet more challenging.
tvseriesfinale.com Update #11 Netflix set up a termination date for The Expanse... I guess the deal with Amazon is done Update #10 Here's the latest news on #SaveTheExpanse and how you can keep helping! We are just getting started. Hello, everyone! This past week has been hectic but we’ve achieved some absolutely incredible things to #SaveTheExpanse: The petition is up over 115,000 signatures and we even had a #SaveTheExpanse plane flying over Santa Monica five days after cancellation! Our efforts have been highlighted in Newsweek and many other major publications. We also organized a campaign in preparation for Wednesday’s spectacular episode which contributed to a ten percent ratings bump. According to Inquisitr, using data provided by Showbuzzdaily.com, Overnight ratings numbers showed that the May 16 episode drew an audience of 609,000, one of the highest-rated episodes in more than two years. The April 11 season premiere was one of only two episodes in the past two years to top that total, drawing 654,000 viewers. The March 1, 2017, episode attracted 625,000 viewers. Beyond that, it had been nearly two years since the show consistently topped 600,000 viewers.
Ratings have a tendency to dip during the mid-season, so having the best ratings since the season premiere is a massive boost, and we're the ones doing it. This is just the beginning of the #SaveTheExpanse movement. If we keep this up and keep watching live, sending letters and making ourselves heard, we will have a shot to save The Expanse yet! Alcon Entertainment co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson have responded to the #SaveTheExpanse campaign, telling Indie Wire: The outpouring of support and enthusiasm from the fans of THE EXPANSE has been remarkable and encouraging. The show’s impassioned fan base, including hundreds of thousands of viewers and the likes of George R.R. Martin and Patton Oswalt, appear to be as hopeful as we are that this stunning space drama can find a new home on another platform.
As long as Alcon is committed, we intend to fight through the last PDC round to CQB if it comes to it to find a new home for the Roci! Most of what we’ve done so far has been organized through our Discord server, but it can get a bit crowded in there and in the interests of planning a proper #SaveTheExpanse campaign, we’ve created a second Discord server with a full-time marketing and production team. We always need input from everyone, so we will be establishing communications channels between the two Discord servers, so if you have an idea you want to bring to our attention, DM or @ one of us, or message us here on Reddit. Over the coming weeks we will tell everyone who needs to hear it to #SaveTheExpanse -- and we will prevail! We are being heard, now we just need to keep the fight going. Here’s what you can do right now to help: First, if you haven’t already, please sign the petition for Amazon to pick up the show, and like us on social media so we can get you updates quickly. Next, we need to boost the audience for The Expanse by bringing in new fans. If everyone watching was able to bring in one friend who can watch, we’d be up to over 1 million potential viewers. The way we’re suggesting to do that is to get as many new people (invite all your friends!) as possible to binge watch Seasons 1 and 2 on Amazon for U.S. residents, or Netflix for our international fans, to catch up over the coming days. Season 3 is also for sale on Amazon. That way by the time they get to Wednesday’s next episode, they’re all caught up. So get on Twitter now and start tweeting #BingeTheExpanse to get it trending! We also have another fantastic video from Ed (a.k.a /u/Alaskan__Thunderfuck) - the guy responsible for the fan trailer that went viral this week - about everything you’ve achieved so far! Check it out here! https://youtu.be/SvZgeblvX-E Finally, please join our social media pages so you can keep up with the campaign and get the most up to date information. We need to boost our numbers here and convert petition signatures into social media reach. It really helps! r/TheExpanse Update #9 "The Expanse is all around us!" EPIC new fan made trailer Wow, this is truly, fluidly epic work!! Great job Bora! Update #8 The Independent (UK): "The Expanse: George RR Martin, Will Wheaton, and an astronaut call on Amazon and Netflix to renew show" r/TheExpanse Update #7 A little bit of perspective: This is ONE WEEK worth of effort. So there seem to be some odd expectations floating around the subreddit, and I think we could use some perspective. Let's recap what we got done this week:
Despite general industry trends, mid-season fatigue, and news of the cancellation, we managed to get a 10% viewership spike AND a ratings increase.
Alcon has put out another press statement that they're still looking for a new home for the show, and Cas Anvar told us SyFy might still be interested. Doors are still open for the show--if things were doomed, Alcon would say so.
So where do we go from here? If you haven't already, purchase and watch this week's episode from Amazon/iTunes/Google. Keep up the pressure on social media, and remember: It's Working. EDIT: It gets even better: Most of this stuff, like the plane, the massive social media trending, the news articles, and the trailer (which I forgot initially--sorry Ed!) have only been going on since TUESDAY. It is now THURSDAY. How's that for perspective? --u/Armisael47
r/TheExpanse Update #6 r/TheExpanse Alcon CEOs Release Statement Alcon Entertainment co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson sent IndieWire a statement via email: “The outpouring of support and enthusiasm from the fans of THE EXPANSE has been remarkable and encouraging. The show’s impassioned fan base, including hundreds of thousands of viewers and the likes of George R.R. Martin and Patton Oswalt, appear to be as hopeful as we are that this stunning space drama can find a new home on another platform.”
Source Imagine if “Game of Thrones” has been canceled before the Red Wedding? This is roughly where “The Expanse” is on the long arc of its tale.
In a nutshell... 'nuff said! Update #5 According to Cas Anvar (Alex on The Expanse), if Syfy gets enough viewers this week they'll have another conversation with Alcon about season four. The ratings are going to matter for anyone looking to pick up the show either way, so don't be fooled. The more ratings Syfy gets, the more reasons for Amazon (or any streaming service) to buy it. Personally, I would prefer if Amazon picked it up but I'll take season four any way I can get it, and I'm sure any reasonable fan of this show would agree. As I'm sure some of you are aware that Hulu Live, and YouTube TV counts towards the Nielsen ratings. #KeepTheRociFlying Update #4 Renewal Campaign Video Renewal site is up! Update #3 Ok, so apparently the community managed to fund a plane flying with a "#SAVE THE EXPANSE" banner in Santa Monica, on top of Amazon Studios HQ. A couple of two hours flights (4 hours total) has been scheduled for Tuesday, the first between 12pm-2pm, and the second between 5pm-7pm. Click here for more info. Update #2 There are rumors of a possible meeting between Alcon and Amazon. According to Jim Murray, the set strike has been pushed to Wednesday, and from what I hear, each day they put off the strike costs Alcon a lot of money, so I don't think they'd do that unless they thought there was a decent chance they could save the show. It's not a game folks! The outcry of support for this show is MASSIVE. Last time I checked, the petition signings were close to 100K. I'm definitely doing my part too thanks largely in part to the fine folks over at reddit. I've tweeted Jeff Bezos, George R.R. Martin, Sharon Tal Yguando, AmazonStudios, Prime Video, AmazonHelp, Alcon, and a few more. I've also emailed, signed, shared, streamed (continuously ongoing), and donated. So if this thing doesn't fall through it definitely won't be from lack of trying that's for sure. I can live with that. This campaign to Remember The Cant is taking me on trip down memory lane with the Farscape battles. We didn't have no where near the tools and resources we possess today but we got the job done (sorta) nonetheless. The Expanse imho is the best thing since Battlestar Galactica (2004), and it would be a tragedy beyond recognition if we were to lose it, especially now considering the timing. Everything else nowadays related to the subgenre just pales in comparison. Stay tuned for more... Update #1 Netflix passes on THE EXPANSE, Amazon interested According to Jim Murray, who works behind the scenes on The Expanse, Netflix have indicated they are not interested in continuing the series on their streaming service, despite already having the international airing rights. However, he also confirms that Amazon has shown an interest in picking up the slack. Amazon already streams the show in the United States after the initial broadcast on SyFy. The show also arguably fits Amazon's original programming more than Netflix's. Amazon is on a major SF and fantasy binge, recently taking out options on the novels Ringworld, Snow Crash, Consider Phlebas and The Three-Body Problem, as well as developing new fantasy series based on the Dark Tower, Wheel of Time, Lord of the Rings and Conan the Barbarian series. The Expanse is also based on a best-selling SF book series, and some fans have noted that the show's focus on (relatively) near-future Solar system colonisation even makes it a good fit for promoting Jeff Bezos's Blue Origins space project.

Re: The Expanse
So SyFy manages to snag the hottest and best sci-fi property produced in years. Perhaps Star Trek Discovery is on the same level, but regardless, it's a heck of a show. Now, 3 series later, SyFy dumps it and we all know why. They are stupid! I believe that people in the industry all knew that the deal SyFy made with Alcon, for The Expanse, way back in 2014 was a bad one. Don't get me wrong, the deal would have been a good one back in 1998, or maybe even when they produced BSG. But, SyFy apparently hasn't noticed that the way people watch TV is much different now, than it was say, back in BSG days. Everybody knows it, heck, even I know it! People don't want to be told when to watch their favorite shows. The only part of the 60 year old TV model that still works is for live sporting events. That's it! Advertisers know that viewers in their target group don't, as a rule, watch commercials. DVR's are just about a standard feature for people who still get cable. If you look at people's remote, the paint seems to be rubbed off on that FF button! However, commercials tend to get peoples attention during live sporting events, too. So, you have to wonder why SyFy would think that The Expanse would change the way people watch TV. They just plain made a stupid deal. It should be mentioned that SyFy isn't losing money on the Expanse, they just aren't cleaning up like they could have if they had been smart. This year, they had a choice, renew the show, make a little money and be THE network that brings the Expanse to TV. SyFy being SyFy, decided to cancel the show and once again let down the fans. Obviously, SyFy figures that if they bring viewers the content they want, they will watch regardless of what channel airs it. They are right. As much as I really don't like SyFy, mostly because they have a nasty habit of canceling almost everything i like, if they produce a good show, I'm going to watch. So the threat we all say, I'm done with SyFy, is empty, for me anyway. I think the best hope for a pick-up is with Amazon. They've shown that they're not afraid to spend money and they've picked up other content in similar situations. This could be a situation where we know nothing till after the current series is over. Also, we'll get to see whether Alcon is willing to cut a few corners, too. As I've said, SyFy was and is stupid. Alcon cleaned up with their deal with them. They might have to get off some of that money going forward. I hope we get to see more of this one. Going forward, the story gets really good and I'd hate to think this is the end. There's always the books. I was sad about Dark Matter, too. It was great to see that Joe Mallozzi teased and laid out S4E1 via twitter this past weekend. Losing that one is still a complete mystery to me as it had it all going for it. SyFy is stupid.

Re: The Expanse
Jeff Bezos is a huge fan of the show and I've read in a few different places that he really wanted it for Amazon when it was first being shopped around. Io9 said he was "very pissed" when SyFy ended up with it. Of course, what he was really upset about is that SyFy entered into such a bad deal that there was no way he could justify buying it out from under them. At the time, he figured that he'd end up with it on the long run, but he thought that SyFy would come to their senses at the end of the first series. I think, and this is just my opinion, the longer SyFy held onto it the less attractive the show became to Amazon. So, even though Daniel Abraham let loose with a couple pretty positive tweets today, I think it's still go to come down to Alcon letting go of some of their pie-in-the-sky terms that they were able to get SyFy to swallow, hook, line, and sinker! I feel good about it coming back and even better about Amazon looking at it as a long term project. No doubt Amazon has money to burn. Maybe they could shave a few bucks off their 1 billion dollar LOTR revival!

Amazon has picked up The Expanse for Season 4 (and maybe more depending on the show performs). It helped somewhat that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is a big fan.

Re: The Expanse
It's been a few days since reports indicated Amazon was close to a deal that would extend the life of sci-fi series The Expanse, and tonight Jeff Bezos made it official. Alcon Entertainment makes the show, which is currently airing season three on Syfy, and said in a statement: "We couldn't be more excited that The Expanse is going to continue on Amazon Prime!" The press release confirmed season four, while Bezos said the show will be a Prime Original "for the coming seasons."
engadget THANK YOU!! Now that it's finally official, I can finally watch the rest of this season in peace, and in happiness.

Re: The Expanse
Yep, this season just keeps getting better and better with each passing episode. This season is the definition of mind blowing, high-quality, high-octane entertainment. This is what you call a sci-fi/space opera show, and this is coming from someone who also follows the books. Damn *roflmao* at how close this show came to getting axed, mainly because of a poorly structured deal, anemic marketing at best next to zero (thanks Syfy), and an archaic ratings system that's been long overdo for a blindfold and cigar. There's only a handful of shows that I fully support with every fiber of my being, and The Expanse happens to be one of them. Hopefully more people (worldwide) will follow and appreciate this show for what it represents by supporting it the right way moving forward.

Re: The Expanse
2 episodes left and we going to see em both next week! Im so sad this is going for a break Best scifi (space) related show ever made. Im still trying to figure what kind that ▼Spoiler Mao's kid is, is she some protomolecyl test subject or what the fuck is she? and why he want to kill i guess im gonna rewatch the show few days after the finale airs. so many loops in the story, should not been smokin weed while watchin this lmao. And now that Amazon bought this, i hope they but more money into episode than before, and hopefully they continue for many seasons, this is simply just perfect scifi show and it will most likely take a long time until any 1 can top this.

Holden certainly made a lot of enemies with long memories.

Re: The Expanse
so sad the season is over now, expecting at'least 1 year till season 4 airs. And sadly there is very limited amount of shows that are even nearly as good. The season finale was 1 of the best finales in looong time. I was hoping we learned more about the gate and the "civilization" that created it and who they were fighting. oh well, plenty of fun for next season for sure! but i need my scifi fix and there isnt like any good shows playing for a while The Salvation started well, then it became shit and i don't understand how the fuck they managed to renew it!

Re: The Expanse
something about next season ▼Spoiler The gates have opened the way to a thousand new worlds and the rush to colonize has begun. Settlers are looking for a new life stream out from humanity's home planets. Ilus, the first human colony on this vast new frontier, is being born in blood and fire. Independent settlers stand against the overwhelming power of a corporate colony ship with only their determination, courage, and the skills learned in the long wars of home. Innocent scientists are slaughtered as they try to survey a new and alien world. The struggle on Ilus threatens to spread all the way back to Earth. James Holden and the crew of his one small ship are sent to make peace in the midst of war and sense in the midst of chaos. But the more he looks at it, the more Holden thinks the mission was meant to fail. And the whispers of a dead man remind him that the great galactic civilization that once stood on this land is gone. And that something killed it. Sounds like a fuckin great season ▼Spoiler i kinda knew that when the gates started to appear in the end of final episode

Re: The Expanse
I've decided to rewatch season three, and even take it one step further by rewatching the 2nd season too. So that it'll lead me directly into season three in one furious binge. I basically stopped watching this season at 3x06 "Immolation" because of the cancellation news. I was completely pissed off at CancelFy, and Alcon for that matter, and really wasn't in the mood to continue watching this season as a potential series finale. So since now that's been taken care of (thanks again, Amazon, Alcon, and all parties involved in the Save The Expanse movement), I can fully enjoy the rest of this epic sci-fi series the way is was meant to be. My time, my rules!

Re: The Expanse
Ok, so I recently completed watching season three of The Expanse and YA LIK PASHANG!! Kowlting fosho kaka xitim!! That was a surreal experience! Now I know some may be asking themselves, "well shouldn't you already know what happened since you read the books?" Well, yes, and no. Reading books and trying to envision certain aspects of what's taking place is one thing, but having it portrayed or visualized onscreen, especially if it's done exceptionally well, which The Expanse does effortlessly, is a whole nother universe within itself. Well drawn characters, a complex, intriguing plot, brilliant political intrigue, highly dynamic factions, action, character development, effects, and production values are all superb. An outstanding show that exemplifies what a hardcore sci-fi/space opera series should be. And if you thought The Expanse hit its peak this season, you're in for a surprise the deeper we go into the series. There's still a lot to come! What The Expanse did achieve this season was confidence in the story it’s telling and, more importantly, the kind of stories it wants to tell. What a drag that would've been had it been canceled after this season. There are currently seven novels and five shorter works. The latter is, to date, two prequel short stories, a prequel novella, one novella set between Caliban's War and Abaddon's Gate and another set around the events of Nemesis Games. Further novels are planned, as well as two more novellas. The 8th novel, titled Tiamat's Wrath is due around December of this year, with a 9th book following in 2019. If the television series goes the distance (condensed or not) it will probably go down as the greatest television series ever in the minds of many, regardless of the genre. Man, for those of you who haven't read the books, I get goosebumps just thinking about the journey you guys are about to embark. Brrr... She believes this will lead to his martyrdom. She wants to destroy his legacy, reputation, and name. This is in regards to Holden's revelation to the Sol system of her fathers involvement with Protogen, which led to his arrest. This is a pretty good read... SPOILER ALERT: Read on only if you have already watched the season 3 finale of The Expanse. The Expanse Showrunner Explains Season 3 Finale and Previews Season 4 Finally, how does the show change now being on Amazon as opposed to Syfy? There are some things that are amazing that we don’t have to worry about: restrictions on nudity, restrictions on language, and restrictions on length to some extent. It’s like we don’t have to jam the episodes into 43-minute boxes if they’re going to spill over into a 50-minute box. There were times in season 3 where I wished that I had been able to put another four or five minutes into certain shows, it would have been great. And we certainly would have done it, and that’s the beauty of being on another platform like this, is that if the material demands it, you can make the story a little bit longer to accommodate it. We never wrote it going, “Oh, God, it’s going to be on basic cable so we’ve got to tone this down.” I think we did some pretty drastic things when we needed to. None of that’s going to change, and I hope that as we get into it more, we’re going to find more and more opportunities to really make the platform work for us, because it’s a great way to watch the show. When you can stream this thing in 4K and it’s seamless and there are no commercial breaks — we don’t even go to blacks — it’s a different experience when you watch. It’s incredibly engaging, and every time I show it to people that way, they go, “That’s a completely different experience than watching it on basic cable.” So we’re really excited to be on Amazon.
I'm pretty sure that Amazon's big hope is that their LOTR series will be the next GoT, hence its humongous budget. So as great as it would be for The Expanse to get a bigger budget, we will just have to wait and see if they want to prioritize this project as well. My money is on the notion that they do! Amazon paid $250 million just to secure the rights from the estate of author JRR Tolkien and it is believed Amazon will spend upwards of $1 billion in total to actually make the show. The Expanse will probably only have a fraction of that budget, but the fact that it will actually be around to have a budget should already be enough for many fans. Apparently, Bezos has been wanting to find Amazon's Game of Thrones for a while, and due to his huge interest in The Expanse, I can see him throwing more budget at it even without being asked.

I missed some parts while watching without subs and dead tired, sometimes i was awake allnight and waited for expanse to hit my fav torrent site and then go sleep lol. scorpius074 wrote:I'm pretty sure that Amazon's big hope is that their LOTR series will be the next GoT, hence its humongous budget. Im thinkin bezos ain't gonna save money now that he got the show, expect atleast similar or double to what it was xD dont know if its up to him to make the decision or what. but i doubt the budget gets any smaller. Dont know what the budgets where for season 1 2 and 3. But it wasn't small, the production level was that good. And fuck yeah, longer episodes and no more sensorship aka nudity and profanity. I just hope there wont be as nudity than in GOT xD oh and i noticed this while i was reading that page you posted. "We certainly have a long-term plan of what the show is over the next several seasons, but I don’t want to give too much away to people." oh boy that brings smile on my face

Really glad Amazon rescued The Expanse. Looking forward to season 4 and hope for many more seasons. Hope they keep the writers and producers who made The Expanse good.

Re: The Expanse
Up to this point, the TV series flows better than the books. I actually had to push myself to finish Book 3. Not that it was bad, it was just confusing and in my opinion, the writing tandem was pretty easy to pick out. But I think the books are going to be hard to beat from this point forward. I'm so happy that Amazon picked this one up. I believe they will keep the production values high and about the only way to do that is to spend money. Few networks have deeper pockets than Amazon and they have shown that they aren't afraid to fully fund a show. It will be interesting to see how many Prime memberships they pick up after they announce a starting date for the next season. If they announce another season after the first or 2cd episode, you can bet it was a bunch. Otherwise we'll probably never know. Fingers crossed!

It would be really interesting to see what kind of data exactly they (and Netflix) use to figure out what show contributes in what way.... Anyway: for a show like The Expanse it probably helps a lot that the CEO likes space quite a bit.... "jeff bezos space" has > 7.000.000 google results.

Annoyed that Amazon Prime Video has not yet begun streaming The Expanse in Europe. They have taken over the international streaming rights from Netflix, and now that Netflix has removed The Expanse I am waiting for Amazon.

Since they are currently in production, I'm thinking that we'll see the next series in late spring. If the Expanse is similar to the other stuff that they've revived, they will release the other seasons about 30 days prior to new content starting. They probably want to build a bit of hunger for viewers, in other words, make em wait so that the whole production gets maximum exposure prior to the new series release. Just a guess tho....
