Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereI have changed the inflammatory title from "BOTD gone, N-E surrenders to bullies" to the current. Unless something is confirmed by Santah, everything is just wild speculation. DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".
http://xkcd.com/488/ Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereLol, as much as I appreciated the sensationalist title, I'm afraid the real reasons are not as exciting: 1) google doesn't like such section being associated with a TV related website - I suspect we're being penalized in search traffic because of adult content and non-relevancy 2) Often, almost on a daily basis, users are complaining that this section exists and new users especially are puzzled by why it's there in the first place - and I can't give any answer other than - that's just what we started doing 10 years ago. It was something cool we had, but it never really fit the rest of the site and didn't feel a part of it - different people were active in the comments than in the news comments or in the forums etc. I don't like it any more than you guys do, and it was a hard decision to make - but I believe it's for the best. Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves. Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereI thought it was a good decision. It was a fun thing to have but it didn't really fit in with the idea of the rest of the site. Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereWhy is it impossible for users to 'turn on' a link for it, the default option would be off, so Googles crawler bots wouldn't find the link. If it is an issue with that could you just link through a short URL or something? I am fine with the change, however it was quite a surprise to see it gone one day. Being a premium member I would think that our opinions would carry a little more weight than just anyone. So going forward I would recommend explaining why the need for big site changes a couple days in advance. Mainly to be polite to your users. Also, bet that the site has a lot of users that frequently check that on each visit, however I don't have the server data to see that, so I am just speculating. Would also be curious over time to see if the page visits go down to the new BOTD domain, as users 'forget' about it. Just tossing my 2 cents into the ring. Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereEdited the main title a little, to point out that BOTD is moved, not gone. @neodawg - you can't fool google by simply not directly linking to something. Though google analytics, they have a ton of data and know everything. Of course visits to BOTD will drop by a certain percentage, we're yet to see what it'll be. I thought about warning you guys earlier, but there really wasn't a benefit to it - other than I would've felt even worse when detaching BOTD from the site - this wasn't one of the things that was up for a discussion. Thanks for the feedback, appreciated. Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it heresantah wrote:
That's a pretty good reason tbh. I get the SEO thing though, makes sense. Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereI thought we could use the same user name and password on the new BOTD site - but mine's not working. Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereThen it's probably not working on Next Episode as well, or you changed it since botd was detached. I just logged out of next episode and logged back in - with the same password and it worked fine. Still can't get into the botd site though. Does the new site use the same database for the user names? Or were they copied over? Does the new site have different rules or limits for passwords (mine is a long 24 character string). If it's a new db - then how do we request a password change (I can't see that function anywhere). Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereI'm still getting "Invalid username and/or password" - on the BotD site. I'd like to continue voting if possible. Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereSorry, I'll look into it in a bit! Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereI checked and your username and password are indeed the same as those on Next Episode. Try in another browser or something, you probably have your password saved in your browser? Copy paste both your username and your password on Next Episode and on babeoftheday, and if it still only works on Next Episode - PM me a new password and I'll change it for you. Another solution is to delete your user on the botd so you can create a new one with that username if that suits you. Again, the same exact password should work on both. Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereIt turned out to be something on the BOTD side (slightly different than on Next Episode) which caused the different computations of some password hashes. Should be fine now! 18 2016-01-28 09:56:37 (edited by AdrianW 2016-01-28 10:36:47)Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereThanks - I can now login. Just noticed that the new site doesn't have a favicon - looks a bit plain when bookmarked. Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereneodawg wrote:
This seems like a good idea. The site could continue to be on a separate domain like it is now with the ability for users to turn on a preference that puts a link back on next-episode where it used to be, just to the new site rather than the old url. Personally I always appreciated the BotD section and it is one reason (albeit a small part) of why I ended up sticking with next-episode over alternatives. So, you are saying that from all the features this site has, one of the reasons you never left was some random picture of a person that changed every day.? That's just sad. You know you can just type in "naked celebrities" into your address bar and lots of pictures can appear all at once. I would like to know what other sites you could have left for.? Sites that offer the same functionality as this one, but sadly without a picture of a "babe" Sites that have the same quick response time of the developer/owner to fix issues, sites that add new features all the time. If that one page was the only reason you are staying, then you might as well just go. DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

Toxic responses from idiots like you is a much better reason if I wanted one to leave. Maybe you should start with reading skills. I said it was a small part of my reason. It was certainly not a major reason. I would not have stuck around if the other features were not compelling. All I was trying to do is say that I also liked the BotD section. But thanks for representing assholes everywhere. Good work. Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it herebobthe wrote:
Since you're new I'll give you the benefit of doubt. You might not know Wizard has been around since the beginning and pretty much has the tone of the site down. And that's fine. You're new. We still like you. Nothing he said was toxic or asshole-y. He might have been a curt with you, but not really toxic as you put it. It was just not what you wanted to hear. And that's fine. Regardless, please keep your tongue civil on this board and refrain from name calling while posting. We welcome differing opinions, but only when stated politely. Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereI feel like Wizard's tone was a little uncalled for as well. Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereHello, everyone. I've used the site for a while now and not really joined in with the "community" aspect of it, I understand everyone will have there own opinions. I myself enjoyed checking in on Babe of the Day every once in a while but I understand why it had to go being a developer. I'll still probably check in but probably with less frequency but I don't see it as any reason to stop using such a well designed and maintained site. Re: BOTD moved to babeoftheday.net, talk about it hereI know I post rarely here now, but I thought I'd give my thoughts on this just as well. At first I was a bit sad to see it go. I remember making that HUGE mosaic-picture in tribute for the #1000 babe I think 2009 or something...so probably just sentimental - and.....after thinking about it I also think this was a good decision for this site. As others have mentioned it didn't really fit in with the main idea of the site and the fact that it affects SEO negatively just adds to the reasoning. Keep up the great work Santa!
