Re: SG-A s05e01?
well - i just think its a shame to watch a show like stargate atlantis (with so great details, etc) in a quality that dosent show 50% and where you hardly can see the details in their faces if they step 9 feets away from the camera. The series deserve better (and so does the viewer) :-) Normaly there is about 3 - 4 hours between the 2 releases - and from my pointofview its defenitly worth the wait :-)

But it's a bit of a stretch to compare vhs with hdtv dvdrips. Fine there are some rips that can be compared to VHS. So this preair I would recommend 720p version but when the good groups release hdtv dvdrips I would recommend the 350MB version. I can't say the same for highbudget series like Heroes where they put in alot on the details but series like Stargate(Yeah I'm a fan) where they made props out of cardboard you don't miss out on much. But this is just my opinion

Re: SG-A s05e01?

Re: SG-A s05e01?
finally......... a HD version - but unfortanly its a 6 GB 1080i DD5.1 release - and thats overkill ! But since thats the only choise i got - thats the one i get :-) (takes 51 minuttes to DL) :-) Tomorrow i get my new 50" plasma screen - maby i should watch it on that - hence it supports 1080i format - that could be some great experience :-)

That is a slight over statement. BriankDK wrote:My thoughts on your statement is that you havent seen a 1.2 Gb rip yet - otherwise you would not make such a statement!
I have. BriankDK wrote:Regarding the time issue, if you have a low bandwith, then u are right - i have a 15mb line so i download a 350 mb episode in a few minuttes - and a 1.2 Gb episode in about 15 minuttes - so time isent a problem for me :-)
I don't really, 8mb, I just don't see the point of downloading it. BriankDK wrote:Tomorrow i get my new 50" plasma screen - maby i should watch it on that - hence it supports 1080i format - that could be some great experience :-)
I hope you're 50" plasma supports 1080p! From the way you worded it, sounds like is doesn't! :-/ afrokiwi wrote:an extra 5 minutes is too long ?? ;-) Halo2 wrote:1.2gb is far too much time to wait for a TV show
5 extra minutes? So do you have a 24Mbps line? I hate you if you do :-P BriankDK wrote:this is from the 6 GB files - amazing quality !! <screenshots>
With regards to 1920x1080, as I understand it, unless you're display is that size (or larger) it doesn't matter on the resolution of it, as the screen can only show that much? I dunno if that is right, but it makes sense

5 extra minutes? So do you have a 24Mbps line? I hate you if you do :-P Most people in countries with a decent infrastructure got 24mbit ADSL. 0-2,5kms of decent cupper and you get from 8-24mbit I'm on the stretch but manages to get 20mbit around 2,2kms so I'm happy. Wont mention the price because it would be unfair due to my discount but before I moved I had 100mbit for 21 euro a month. Basically sometimes a 350mb rip took a look at the TV and a look back and it was done. Halo2 you hate atleast 25% of the households in sweden

Its not correct. The original image on a 350 mb episode is small (i think its about 624x368), then its being rezised (enlarged) to fit your screen. (makes the pixels much bigger, hence you can see the errors and lack of details much more). with the 1.2 Gb series its the other way around. Thats the reason that the picture details are so FUCKING nice :-) Dident you see the screenshots i posted earlyer ???? Opden this - and then click the picture - then youll see the picture in the correct format - i will call u a big fat liar if you dosent agree that the screenshoot is atleast 50% better then the divx version you have on your harddrive :-) http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/7613 … g(remember to click on the picture!!) Here is the same screenshoot from a 350 mb file - try and zoom it to the same size as the one above (zoom ratio 250%)- and see how VHS bad the picture gets: http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/6830 … 727xy5.jpg

Re: SG-A s05e01?
try and compare the beard on these to screenshots: http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/5702 … 941ed6.jpg http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/2058 … 353rs6.jpg Remember to zoom - so you get the same size picture - on the one in HD quality you can easaly count each hair in his beard - in the 350 mb screenshot - well god luck counting it (or even regougnice that he has a beard) :-) And while you are at it - try and look at his eyes - the one picture is blur - the other one is crystal clear. And if this dosent convince you - then i give up !

Re: SG-A s05e01?
Oh c'mon, would you please stop that. One of you likes to see all the details, the other one doesn't. Is is so hard to accept that people have different opinnions??? This is as pointless as if you were saying: Person 1: I don't like strawberries! Person 2: You must like them, because I like them! What is the point in all this...

Re: SG-A s05e01?
Well, i think he is trying to make the world a better place. Be that as it may, I will stick to my beloved DVDrip quality with TV shows and only get an occasional 720p quality movie from Bit-hdtv. Those are only good if you have huge ass screen stashed away somewhere. Luckily I have a friend who does so occasional eye-candy really is welcome, but for everyday use most people are just as happy with DVDRip.

Re: SG-A s05e01?
When I buy a movie I usually choose 2-disc special collectors überedition over Blu-Ray, even though I have Full-HD TV, HD and Blu-Ray players. And when watching a movie from my PC, the 700mb dvdrip is all I need. But that's just me. I know there are people who'll get white christmas on their other pantleg when they see every little single detail on someones face from their 50" plasma full-hd tv.

Re: SG-A s05e01?
Just back away, far enough, from the screen and you will not see the difference I'm all for HD, but I still download all my shows in the 350 mb sizes... I have about 1,5 TB of television on my computer so changing to x264 would kill my wallet

Re: SG-A s05e01?
I'm with Mxyzptlk. I download so much TV that I wouldn't have room if I downloaded it all HD. The 350mb is a fine resolution for me to watch any show - I have no interest in being able to count every single hair in John Sheppard's beard. As handsome as his face is.

Re: SG-A s05e01?
I usually stick to the smaller non-HD downloads as I too don't have room on my hard drive. I don't own a HD TV anyway ( ), so I don't notice much difference between the HD download or the smaller download. When I do eventually get a HD TV though, I expect I shall always go for the HD downloads where possible, as I've heard that HD is awesome.

Re: SG-A s05e01?
Sure there is a quality difference. And if you buy a badass HD TV you want to see it. I recently watched an old VHS tape and was surprised how bad the quality is, cause I normally watch the 350MB HDrips. For me the break even quality point is the exactly there. The HD rips in 350MB XviD quality are just fine. The DSR rips in 350MB XviD quality are a bit too blurry. And btw I like the details in the storyline and not in the picture quality

Exactly that's the most important thing As long as you can follow the story I'm not bothered

Re: SG-A s05e01?
I know it's each to his/her own but I've converted both 350Mb and 1.2Gb TV episodes to DVD and watched both on my crappy 28" WS TV (soon to be up-graded yippee) and on a 1080 HD TV and for me the difference is marginal. Just my opinion.
