Topic: Site Notifications / Email Notifications

I've been thinking for some time now about implementing notifications.

Think of them as toggle-able in the settings and a red bell or envelope next to your username when you have one.

Clicking it opens a feed like page, where you have an archive of your notifications, with the newest one on top.

Those can either be turned on for the site only, or can notify you by email as well.

Here is what I figure will be useful to be notified about:

1) When there are new episodes from my watchlist
   - All Episodes
   - Season Pilots

2) When a new show for a channel I follow is added

3) When a new show on my watchlist gets a premiere date (Pilot)

4) When a show on my watchlist gets a premiere date (For any season)

5) When a show from my watchlist is Canceled/Ended (or Ressurected!)

6) When there is a news post on the site.

7) When a show I requested is added / rejected

8) When someone commented after me

What do you think? Ideas for more helpful notifications or any thoughts on this?

It will be a Premium only feature, as it'll put a heavy load on our server if I just turn it on for everyone.

I'd love a notification on the site for point 3, but I'd probably turn off the others as the front page is my home page and I see all the information about the other points several times a day.

All in all notifications would be a good idea.

As toidol said, option 3 (both of them).  For me options 4,5 and 6 would also be good.

As I see it....
1) Far too many alerts - almost spam like for "all episodes"
2) Do people follow channels.?
3) Yeap
4) Yeap
5) (again) Yeap
6) Maybe - We don't have that much news at the moment, so yea
7) Good idea
8) Not really, unless comments get an overhaul and can now be threaded.!?

Some good ideas in there.

They'll be able to, in order to make this notification available.

Sure, those will make an appearance as push notifications in future versions of the mobile apps.

I said if you are able to choose which you want to use implement them all and see which are the most popular.  You could always remove the ones that people dont use for me
