Topic: The Leftovers
The Leftovers
HBO Orders Damon Lindelof's Post-Rapture The Leftovers The cable network has ordered to series the latest project from Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof, the slightly supernatural drama The Leftovers. Based on the book by Tom Perrotta, The Leftovers follows what happens after the biblical Rapture takes all the righteous people away and leaves the Earth populated with everyone who didn't get called up to heaven. Specifically, the series will center on a group of people who must survive without their more devout loved ones. Liv Tyler, Justin Theroux, Christopher Eccleston, Amy Brenneman, Emily Meade, Michael Gaston, and Chris Zylka are all in the cast, and HBO has asked for 10 episodes. Re: The Leftovers
Am I the only one who thinks that the premise makes it sound more like a comedy than a drama? Also Damon Lindelof shouldn't write anything anymore. Ever.

Re: The Leftovers
mmm...3rd episode was really boring, still don't get the whole thing, gonna watch the next one but if they don't give more explanation about the white people and the pigeons and the mad chief or whatever weird thing is in the show, im probably going to stop watching it

Re: The Leftovers
I agree... I can't say it was that bad of an episode but it was long and tedious. It's not going well on my enjoyement meter.
Myka : You slept with her didn't you ? Pete : Well... you... you told me to investigate ok ? So... she's unarmed.

Re: The Leftovers
I gave up after three eps. I know that some good shows have to take a while to get going, but this seemed to start wandering and using filler by episode 2. They lost me, and lot of others as well.

Re: The Leftovers
I've just started watching and enjoyed the first episode. Guess we'll see if I last after the next couple of episodes!

Re: The Leftovers
I'm really on the fence with this one. I want to like it because I tend to like similar shows/movies/books. But I need some kind of reveal as the show progresses! Expose more of the mysterious stuff in each ep or so. This show just seems to go from situation to situation with no revelations, no resolutions. Maybe that's the way it would be in real life, but it's unsatisfying in a weekly TV show. Also, I'm not connecting with any of the characters. Maybe because we know so little about them. The Sheriff is just an angry guy who leaps from this angry situation to that one. The mayor (?) is a flat stereotype - push the Sheriff around to look good for the little people. The daughter is just another angry brat. At least the son is starting to show some doubt of his prophet. Liv Tyler is wispy and watery and uninteresting. I could go on. Has anyone read the book? I know it has no explanation for the event, but is it any better than the show?

Re: The Leftovers
I didn't read the book, but apparently it's supposed to not go anywhere. You should simply enjoy what the main event has done to the remaining part of the human race. Clearly this means that the show is not for everyone... I didn't get past the pilot.

Re: The Leftovers
So i dropped this show over a year ago, after the first 3 eps or so. Only recently stumbled over people recommending The Leftovers, that the second season was great. So i gave the show another chance and started with 1x04. And boy i'm glad i did. I'm at 2x07 now and am already worried that i only have 3 eps left to watch but luckily season 3 is already in production. It definitely helps when you can watch at your own pace and don't have to wait a week or several weeks for new episodes. The show is weird, very weird, a bit boring at times when you haven't clicked with the characters yet, but by now i have and really enjoy season 2 and am glad that i did give the show a second chance.

I dropped The Leftovers two or three episodes in during the first season and haven't looked back since. I dunno, maybe I'll revisit the series one day after it's all said and done but I wouldn't bet any money on it . That's all I do is watch at my own pace. I'll admit that Netflix sort of made me this way but it's definitely the best way to enjoy any type of series. I have friends that get pissed off at me because they want to talk about a certain show or a particular episode but I haven't watched it yet. They yell and ask me, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? I tell them calmly, Next week. Next week comes and I tell them the same thing, and so forth...

Re: The Leftovers
The first couple of episodes are a little hard to watch but I think the payoff has been immense for those who have stuck with it.

Re: The Leftovers
Excruciating. It meandered all over the place, with annoying and unlikeable characters doing inexplicable things. I forced myself to watch the second half of season 2, just in case it got better. It didn't.

The soundtrack is amazing. I really recommend this show to anyone who has the patience. The story is really great. I can't stop watching.

Re: The Leftovers
I'm watching the series for the first time. I liked season 1 - the pace, character development, several parallel stories... I'm in the middle of season 2 and I don't know whether to keep watching this or not. Every episode is based on the feeling of suspense and creates anxiety, but actually nothing really happens. All stories seem like side stories, that are actually irrelevant for the REAL story. Something that could be resolved in 15 minutes drags through the whole episode. There are a lot of new characters, the setting is completely new, but they don't get enough attention. Mystery is one thing and confusion and mess are another. I'm really struggling with episodes... Should I stay or should I go?

What?! I've totally missed a Damon Lindelof show? I loved both https://next-episode.net/lost and https://next-episode.net/watchmen! Will have to check it out. Asteria wrote:Should I stay or should I go?
According to the ratings: continue! But stop if you really dislike it.

Re: The Leftovers
Ok, this explains it, same as Lost, a lot of mystery and drama, but no solid explanations, like a constantly lying politician

Re: The Leftovers
I've now watched season 1 and 2x1. Cool show! There's a certain weirdness that I like, along with the mystery. Solid acting. Recommended.
