Topic: The Strain
The Strain
Hm, if I were to summarize the pilot using titles of other projects I'd call it American Horror Story: I Am Legend of Helix. Lot of really strange scenes and characters, not your typical vampire show. Unlike AHS or True Blood I liked the pilot very much and I can't wait to see what happens next. Plus there are a lot of really good people in the cast so that's always a bonus.

Re: The Strain
No I didn't and I'm not planning on now, because I don't want to spoil the fun. I've read your spoiler and I don't know why you've used the spoiler tag, because the pilot clarifies that much. What I'm more interested in is: - the coffin, the superspeed creature and the "people" behind the conspiracy - Setrakian's character development - how massive the infection is going to be since this is a tv show with a limited budget Anyway finally a new show I'm looking forward to, not just something to watch without too much enthusiasm.

Re: The Strain
Pretty scary for a TV show, weird, entertaining and also well done. Could be a keeper, if i'm not too scared to watch it at night

Re: The Strain
While the pilot was well done, this is just another zombie series based on a comic book.

Re: The Strain
Veeery nice pilot, I really enjoyed it and by the end I was suprised that it ended so quickyl (even though its 70 minutes long), now I really want the second episode. Can't remember when I was so excited after the first episode of something. The cast is good, we have Peter Russo (who looks GREAT with hair, a shame he was bald in HoC), Samwise Gamgee, Walder Frey, Nadia Santos, so I'm really looking forward to it. However. One moment really boggles my mind. I know it was made to move the plot forward, but it was so stupid and out of character that I just couldn't believe it.
▼Spoiler So they find the coffin. It's not on the manifest, they have NO idea what's in it, and they know that something unfamiliar to them killed the passengers. So what do they do? - Guys! Guys! What if we... open it? ;> - Okay! :D <3 <3 <3 CONTAMINATED RAINBOW <3 <3 <3 For fuck sake, Effe just an hour ago gave a big lecture about how viruses are the new black and travel faster than teenage gossip, and they do THAT?! Also, I can't believe that in the 6-7 hours there they didn't find the corpse of Andrew Divoff. But I like it regardless.

Re: The Strain
The coffin was not hermetically sealed and they had already found and captured worms in the aircraft hold.

Re: The Strain
There were a few things that made you think "yeah right", however on the whole it was enjoyable. Better than Helix anyway.

Re: The Strain
Usually when you have an adaptation, you loose something when transferring to TV/movie etc. In this case, when you read the books you can see that they had a movie/series in mind the whole time, it is like a big script... ▼Spoiler The infection gets REALY massive

Re: The Strain
Second episode wasn't as eventful as the pilot, but it did pick up in the last 10 minutes. My only complaint is that they swept the airplane crisis under the rug way too easily. We all know they'll regret it soon, but still... PS. Is it just me or did they use the same lector at the beginning as the one from Lost?

Yeah the second episode wasn't as good, but it looks like the next one will be interesting.

Re: The Strain
I really enjoyed the first episode, but the next two weren't even close to enjoyable. Don't think I'll continue to watch this, which is sad because I had such high hopes for this show

Re: The Strain
The third one was a tad better, but still nowhere near the pilot quality. The last few minutes were great, but if the show's going the TWD route (i.e. 40 minutes of nothing and 2 minutes of something cool) then I will quickly drop his. However, the teaser for 1x04 looks promising.

Re: The Strain
After watching the third ep I'm starting to get a little annoyed that all of the good/neutral sides of the story aren't doing as much as they should and they're not panicking as much as they should. For example they should've operated on the pilot a lot sooner instead of simply observing him. The wife of the survivor with glasses also wasn't really upset by his worsening condition (not counting the last scene with him). Only the bad guys seem to be doing everything clockwork. I like all of the side stories they've introduced this far, but they seem to be taking a little bit too much of the episodes. Short comedic elements are also nice, however the ▼Spoiler penis down the drain scene was too much. And yeah, the third ep was a lot like the second... it really picked up close to the ending. At this moment I'm not thinking of dropping the show at all, because the story still has enormous potential, but I have to admit it's not a zomgwtf show I thought it would be after watching only the pilot.

Re: The Strain
Agree, but I dropped it after ep 3 and may revisit later if comments improve. Some shows do get a lot better later in the season (Agents of Shield being a recent example.)
