Topic: The speculation discussion
The discussion so far, I believe, pulled from the 4x08 thread:
One of the best thing about this show is that I have NO idea what will happen next, If I'd read the books i would still watch the show but it wouldn't be as good I'm sure.
I don't even think about what might happen next in case I guess right and accidentally spoil it for myself! So i wish you would all stop guessing in this apparent spoiler free thread, feel free to talk to your friends or yourself about it.. but PLEEEEEEASE stop.

No.

Guesses are not spoliers...!

I think that this forum is about talking what happened in the latest episode and ideas what they think will happen next (unless if they have read the books and have hints what could happen. for these guys we have the books vs the show thread).
But we could start using spoiler tag for random ideas what could happen next so people who don't want to hear any ideas, in case they will actually come true. We can just say:
my idea what would happen next (not book spoiler)▼Spoiler

If you want to talk about or know about spoilers or guess what happens next, either go to the appropriate thread with spoiler warning or atleast put it behind spoiler tags, coz people me included hate spoilers and guessing what happens next can be spoilery too.

I consider everyone on this forum to be a friend. I want to talk to my friends about this wonderful show and I will continue to without spoilers. Speculations and theory are completely ON the table. The only thing certain in life is death. Speculation is a huge part of life. You know what you're getting into every time you click into one of these threads. A bunch of friends just talking about TV.
If you wanted to isolate yourself from that, what was the point of you coming into this thread? A thread filled with "cool episode" "yeah, cool episode" would get boring pretty quick.
Have a nice day, Deke. Smile.
Well that's me told.
I'll just avoid all GOT threads from now on
Thanks all

Thanks allTo be fair, you have yourself to blame, this thread was titled after the episode number.!
And have i complained about them talking about that episode?
If they want to talk about episode 4x09 or 4x10 maybe start a thread with that title and i wont view it (like always) until I've seen it!I'm all for discussing what happened in an episode that is titled with that episode number, it's the speculating/guessing what will happen in the next, Is it too much to ask for a spoiler tag? really?

I for one still think that spoiler tag isn't much to ask. I even think i have seen in other threads in here spoiler tags used for the very same reason. Specially in shows where non of us know what actually would happen.
I actually like the idea of speculating happening in the thread it's related to, but even if your speculation is right you can't know that it's going to happen in the next episode or the episode after.
Spoiler tags are nice, but one assumes they're about the titled episode.
I propose, since GOT has it's own subforum, that someone simply start a 'speculation' thread. There's the 'book vs the show' thread, and I don't go in there because at this point I don't want to know. Works well.

Eh - no
IMHO that would ruin the fun. Of course it's ok to speculate about the next episode or the story line itself. But to be fair, if you already know the outcome, maybe because you read the books, you have to STFU!We did often discuss if it's necessary to use spoiler tags. Common sense dictates that if you talk about things that didn't happen yet, you have to use it. That's also useful in threads about a complete season or show. But in a dedicated topic about a single episode - like this one - one can assume that you've already seen that episode. Still if you talk about the surprising end it would be nice to use a spoiler tag anyway. That was also done in this topic.
That said the special forum about the books is necessary, because those readers know mostly more about the story then what happened in the show, so they can freely speculate and rant about the show in there. But please don't spoil the story in the other topics.

IMHO that would ruin the fun. Of course it's ok to speculate about the next episode or the story line itself. The fun of.. being a d*ck? (see latitude75). An episode thread is for discussion of the episode, I don't see that speculation belongs in one, especially speculation based on the books; game of thrones being unique in that respect. And if you move 'the fun' to another thread I fail to see how that ruins it.
As I said, if you read the books, in here you have to STFU when it comes to speculation. So I agree with you on latitude75, but I disagree with you on the general speculation in a new topic.
But you have no way of knowing whether a person has read the books or not, or whether they've lied about doing so. Faith that someone is speculating from ignorance isn't good enough.
True, but that wouldn't change if there is a speculation only topic
We have to have faith in the user
BlackBox wrote:True, but that wouldn't change if there is a speculation only topic
We have to have faith in the userI can see the flaw there, can you?
For me the thread is more "destroyed" by the OT talk about what to say, than some light speculation about possible outcomes of an episode.
BlackBox wrote:True, but that wouldn't change if there is a speculation only topic
We have to have faith in the userSure, we'd have to have faith that users actually would keep speculation out of the episode threads; but they MIGHT if there is a thread for speculation, or we might even see mods moving speculation there; but they CAN'T if there isn't a separation of threads.
As for the off topic discussion: I agree, but I don't have the power to split the discussion off to elsewhere. The discussion started here, and because of the books it's more relevant to GoT than any other show.
I _think_ that is everything relevant. Let us, if we need to, continue the discussion here.
