Topic: Why aren't Xmas / special shows listed?

I guess this is mainly about UK shows but I didn't know the Doctor Who 'Day of the Doctor' special had been shown until I heard people talking about it even though the show's on my watchlist.

Also last year the Doctor Who and Downton Xmas specials didn't show in my watchlist - I actually started watching the next Downton episode after missing the Xmas one and thought 'wtf??? Did I miss a series?' Then, on searching teh webz I found out about the special.

Happy holidays to all. :-)

Re: Why aren't Xmas / special shows listed?

Because 99.9% of the specials are just season recaps.

I agree we're missing on some valuable specials this way though.

Will think of something ...

Re: Why aren't Xmas / special shows listed?

Ok, I've not seen any of those recap shows.

I'm not complaining - I love this site. :-) This is the only time of year I have to go looking elsewhere to find out when shows that I'm interested in watching are being broadcast.

Re: Why aren't Xmas / special shows listed?

Guess this explains why i have loads of Doctor who specials to mark as watched this morning :-)

Re: Why aren't Xmas / special shows listed?

Yea, I enabled the Specials for dr.who so we can debate on whether we need the specials or not.

Posted a news about it as well! http://next-episode.net/news-permalink-728.html

Hi Santah,

Weren't most of those Doctor Who 'specials' ~5 minute webisodes? If so that's not what I meant by specials.

I was particularly referring to the recent 'Day of the Doctor' full-length special and the annual Xmas specials. I suppose there isn't an easy way to sort them?

Cheers,

Oh, forgot to say; You could have just told me here that you didn't like the idea of including them rather than start a home-page topic with a leading question like "do you agree they're (mostly) useless and should be ignored?"

wink

Re: Why aren't Xmas / special shows listed?

You got the wrong idea. I don't need to validate my opinion by leading people into agreeing with me.

Probably phrased it wrong though, so I changed that.

In any case, it's a valid request and I want to dig a bit deeper into it instead of just rejecting it smile

Sorry I didn't mean to be confrontational. I didn't get the feeling that your opinion *was* that they were mostly useless from reading your replies in this thread - or I would have just STFU. I appreciate this site too much to make trouble. wink

Sweet. Thanks. smile

Re: Why aren't Xmas / special shows listed?

I see that specials are appearing now - thanks Santah, much appreciated.

Happy holidays.

Re: Why aren't Xmas / special shows listed?

Could the specials (and the rest of a seasons episode list) please be listed by air date, instead of episode number? For example Archer season 3 specials are listed last, but aired before the rest of the season.

Re: Why aren't Xmas / special shows listed?

Whilst I do like having the specials listed, it does create quite a lot of noise on the Stuff to Watch page. I will, at some point, watch them but in the mean time would it be possible to add a toggle button (with its value remembered) to show/hide all specials? I made a user-script to do it but its quite hacky as it just searches for any episode with the string 'special' in it so it could easy result in false positives!

edit: If its easier, even just adding a CSS class to specials would make my user-script less error-prone, if thats possible?

Re: Why aren't Xmas / special shows listed?

How about having specials a different colour on the calendar?
I mistook one for a regular episode of SNL only to be disappointed its a best of season special?

Oh different colours.!

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".
