Re: Civilization V
Did you win?
(...and from what TV-show/movie is that gif??)
Re: Civilization V
Yes, but only because of diplomacy, I wanted a science win but there was no way I would do it before someone would squash me.
And the gif is from the movie Thor. If you haven't tried the Marvel Movie Franchise, you should, it's quite great. Iron Man -> Incredible Hulk -> Iron Man 2 -> Thor -> Captain America -> The Avengers
Re: Civilization V
Ah yeah, seen most of them, and I like them very much. Not had time to see Thor, Captain America or The Avengers yet tho. Also have the last Iron Man unwatched.
Whenever I play Civ5 (I have Gods & Kings not Brave New World) I end up trying to kill everyone and either I win by domination or I fail badly. The last 3 games I've gone up to King diff....yet to win though...
Re: Civilization V
So funny you should say that. My last of those 3 losses was exactly that!!!
Standard/Normal map-size and speed.
Re: Civilization V
Try it! Im sure you can do better than me.
Re: Civilization V
Im currently trying to achive the same thing with Huns. But Ottoman and Washington are dancing in circles around me score-wise
Not sure how much tha AI cheats on King, but I think even the smallest mistake (misclicks, moving units that have hill bonus to flat areas to fight etc etc) is fatal in the long run - this alongside the ever growing problem of balancing science, food, happiness, expansion etc etc...so hard lol
Re: Civilization V
I hate Assyria because they have awesome earlymidgame expansion but no way to keep up the happiness. You take a few cities, then wait a million turns, then take another few but by now your timing has passed and you're left sucking your thumb. Buff plz.
Re: Civilization V
I hate the shoeshiners (or at least that is what I call them, I keep forgetting their precise name).
They really like to expand like crazy. It would be fine if they expanded near their capital, but nooo.... they have to travel over half the continent past 2 other civilizations and place their city right next to my capital.
Happened twice in a row.

This is exactly what happened to me in my last game with Huns.... grrrr
Problem was prolly that I kept annexing cities I took rather than razing them.
Re: Civilization V
Domination was impossible so I went for diplomacy, but won.
Wow, nice!
What map do you usually play? I usually go for Pangea to avoid having someone separated to just boom in peace.
Oh, what exactly did you do and when - to switch from domination to diplomacy?
My current game I'm Napoleon (also Pangea). Washington had 2-300 points more than me and he declared war coming at me on my eastern flank.....all my troops was on my western flank killing off Atilla. Washington came with TONS of troops and Orleons was sure to fall. I normally dont do this, but I got so frustrated and reloaded some turns before he declared war. Made peace with Atilla and moved my two generals to my western flank and dropped down two Citadels. Atm I've fought him off and now considering gearing up to finish him off or to lay back and lick my wounds.....
Re: Civilization V
Excerpt from The Iconic History of Ethiopia by Haddis Alemayehu, published posthumously by Shama plc in 2003 (English version translated by Harper Voyager in 2012).
"As I write these words, I can feel my dying breath coming closer and closer with each shallow inhale and slow blink of my eyes. However, I will sooner die behind my table, with my head lasting on my last words, rather than give up on writing down the history of my and our nation, my only true love.
(...)
The nation's capital, Addis Ababa, was founded around 4000BC on the, what is known as now, eastern part of Asia. What started as a village of farmers and lumberjacks (...) became a prosperous and successful civilization. Although not everything went well from the start.
(...) of Alcoholism, founded around 1250BC by Our Lord and Savior Uncle Ted, helped with shaping our moral belief system and helped with creating a symbiotic relationship with our greatest ally, China (Neighboring countries shall be discussed in the chapter "Friends & Foes").
(...) after The Great War with America, our immortal leader Haile Selassie decided that the world is not worthy of existence if it is not on Ethiopian soil (which he believed is the entire Earth). (...) However, after the war with Greece in 1950, Haile Selassie, in his infinite wisdom, sacrificed his own belief for the good of his people, as he knew that conquering the world would not be worth the unhappiness of his citizens. In his cunningness, he abandoned the Autocracy ideology for Order, ideology which was shared by other civilizations, including China. From that moment (...) his goal was to, again, conquer the world, yet not with a closed fist but with an opened hand.
(...)
I remember that day. 5th of April, 1987. First televised session of the World Congress (which was the second one ever by that time). The streets were empty, silent, hollow. Everyone in front of their new television set, mesmerized by what they were seeing. Fists clenched, sweat covering the eyebrow. France uses all of their four votes on themselves. China as well. No one even noticed how Japan voted. Yet then, the first sign of better things to come. The Iroquois vote for Ethiopia! In disbelief, the focus changes to Austria. 'What will they do?', my youngest son asks, yet it only sounded like a distant scream in my head, an echo of my own inquiry. Four votes, Ethiopia. The same from Brazil. In this situation, it was the only wise thing to do and for our delegates to vote for Ethiopia as well. The tension was insufferable, as it came down to the votes of the city-states, each given two seats in the World Congress. The ultimate, single scream of joy was building up with each delegate casting his vote (the author of this book would like to say that he does not believe in the false stories, as if the delegates were merely paid off and will always defend this fact). And (...) Haile Selassie I said only "Thank you," as he was seated as the leader of the world."
Re: Civilization V
