Re: Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who at the end of year
I thought that was made rather obvious by the 'in the next episode of Doctor Who...' bit at the end of Saturday 18th May episode.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-21980892 is good reading.
The 50th anniversary show on 23rd of November (in 3D!!1!1!!) should be interesting. I hope Next Episode let us know when the special "An Adventure in Space and Time" screens. We don't get to hear of these things here in New Zealand.
Re: Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who at the end of year
Do you have a link? I don't remember what was obvious about it.
Not a link, no. However in the afore-mentioned show (The Name of The Doctor) it started with Clara chasing various Doctors through space/time and saying "he always looks different but I always know it's him" - a big red flag. Thinks a bit... Matt's been playing The Doctor for four years - about as long as any Doctor since the show started again.... Clara saying it's her job to save him, no matter what he looks like....
Then, at the very end of the episode Matt Smith was talking to himself/another incarnation of the Doctor who had his back to camera (but you could tell who it was by his voice)...
Then he turned around and it was John Hurt and writing came up on the screen saying "Introducing John Hurt as The Doctor" then "To be continued... November 23rd".
If that wasn't obvious then I don't know what is. <shrug>

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
Re: Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who at the end of year
why are you sad? if the next doctor would be John Hurt, that would be awesome. i always hoped that there would be Doctor who isn't so young.

Re: Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who at the end of year
I agree, John Hurt is a great actor. However Doctor Who is aimed at a younger audience (and there would be bound to be complaints from puritanical people if he runs around with young babes all the time ).
I reckon there's a chance that Hurt will be a 'transitional' Doctor - a temporary version, maybe just for a special or two, or perhaps a short season. (He'd be expensive to hire and Matt's Doctor accused him of doing something heinous so he's unlikely to be 'popular'.) I'm looking forward to seeing him play The Doc though.
Re: Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who at the end of year
I was thinking Matt Smith would be leaving soon.
But i think John Hurt will be the evil doctor in the 50 year anniversary movie. The Doctor who did something so horrible he lost the priviledge to be called the doctor.
I think they will find a new actor for the tv show. As the article implies they have not decided yet.

They have been lucky with the last 2.....And please, please DO NOT be PC and change the doctor to a woman, minority, gay, etc. character (...no offense intended..)
Re: Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who at the end of year
Damien Molony would be my pick for the next doctor
Re: Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who at the end of year
Damien Molony
Wasn't he on the short list for the current incarnation (i.e. Matt Smith)?
Re: Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who at the end of year
i was really REALLY hoping that they would use Matt Smith for a few more seasons.
He is the ultimate madman in a blue box!
As the next doctor, I suggest Phill Jupitus.
he would be a great doctor!
Kellogg: Archer broke both Wu’s arms. While shouting “Woo!”
Archer: Happy accident.

Maybe it was the oddsmakers...
British bookies have taken bets on who the next Doctor will be in previous regenerations. Back in 2008 Paddy Power put Paterson Joseph down as 3/1 and David Morrissey in as 5/1.

Re: Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who at the end of year

Chiwetel Ejiofor 8/1
Damien Molony 9/1
David Harewood 10/1
James Frain 10/1
Russell Tovey 10/1
Rory Kinnear 10.5/1
Ben Daniels 12/1
David Harewood 12/1
Rupert Grint 15/1
Ben Whishaw 15/1
Andrew Scott 16/1

Re: Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who at the end of year
It seems that either John Hurt has a full dance-card of that the bookies agree with my theory [above] that he'd be too expensive and The Doctor needs to be younger.
Despite the "Introducing John Hurt as The Doctor" bit at the end of "The Name of The Doctor" episode they have him at 50 to 1.
(I presume the bookies are talking of the next Doctor in a series? Otherwise John Hurt would be a good bet as he's likely to be teh Doc in the November anniversary special. )
Re: Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who at the end of year
i'm still hoping that next doctor will be older not a young guy
Re: Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who at the end of year
Damien Molony 2nd fav come on pick him!!!
Re: Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who at the end of year
I just want him to be a good actor. And ginger.
Lol!!!!

I very much doubt it's anything to do with that. The fact Matt Smith knew who he was negates the fact that he'll ever be a "next doctor".
Also I've read this: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/docto … smith.html
He looks like he could do well, as well as being on the older side!

'Doctor Who' producers 'considering female Time Lord'
Source: http://www.digitalspy.com/british-tv/s7 … -lord.html
While I am dead set against a female version of the Doctor, I do find an intriguing possibility of having Jenna-Louise Coleman's character morphing into the 12th ...
If the producers truly want a female time-lord, bring back the Rani as a reoccurring character ; or even better, make a spinoff with Jenny.
Just leave the formula alone!!!!
