Re: Defiance
First 15min are on PS3 and I'm guessing other places. I watched it and thought it looked pretty good.
Re: Defiance
The Pilot went up online tonight. It's two episodes (1hr 20mins). I liked it.
Also the shows pages doesn't link to this post.
Re: Defiance

Re: Defiance
Syfy channel starting to show something good again? A month after I stopped getting it on TV?
Typical...
Been a while since I last added a show to my watchlist though.
Re: Defiance
A good friend of mine is a producer for the game Defiance. For her sake I hope the show and game are great! I'm really interested in seeing how the two tie together.
Re: Defiance
The first two episodes looked ok. For me it felt like Terra Nova meets The Clone Wars. At least it's sci-fi - kinda
It has potential, but at times it felt like watching gameplay on YouTube. Julie Benz is doing a great job as the major and her sister has other potentials
Went straight to my watchlist and stays there for now
Re: Defiance
Well there is an MMO tied to this, which is probably why it feels like a video game.
Re: Defiance
Mhh, I am not sure yet. Feels a little like Terra Nova. Not sure if I'll keep it. Besides, the Story is set in the future. Why are they still fighting with guns from 20th century? Seriously a MP5?
Funny though was the conversation between Jeb and the mayor when he was about to leave town with his reward. The same dialog as between Princess Leia and Han Solo after he collected his reward in Episode III!
And the Creatures? We got Bio Human, Votans, whatever the doctor is, the Wookie looking guys, and little Hobbit looking fellows! Why?
Re: Defiance
Well I dislike Star Wars and TLoTR so I didn't recognize any of the creatures from those things. So why not. Also the show is only set in the year 2041 so having a lot of our guns seems logical. I thought there was enough of a mix between future guns and modern guns that it worked.
Re: Defiance
What's their to like, both go on for far to long.

Re: Defiance
Never been a huge fan of the sci-fi genre although I liked Firescape and Stargate. This one... I don't know. The main father & daughter duo seems ok, but the rest feels rather bland and it reminds me too much of Terra Crap and Crapping Skies. Plus they should take more time to familarize the viewers with types of alien races and the culture instead of trying to squeeze as much stuff into a 90-minute pilot as possible.
PS. At least it didn't look cheap... only a few scenes were significantly worse and looked like they were imported from the video game.
Re: Defiance
Like others, it felt to me as a mashed up Terra, Skies, Trek Voyager, etc...
And some CGI were so ridiculous, it's disturbing. Strange how they can do such a good job on some parts and insult the viewer with blue screen stuff that seems to come from Mario Kart.
Other than that, I like the genre and I'll stick with it. There is some potential that some old shows of the 90s had for a good run (not sure why Xena came to my mind, I never watched that) but given the state of the brain matter of the population...
What worked in the past sure ain't working as good now. So we'll see.
Pete : Well... you... you told me to investigate ok ? So... she's unarmed.

Re: Defiance

Xena will forever be associated with hangovers for me. I was out partying like every saturday for several years back in the mid-late 90s, and Xena was on TV every sunday afternoon when i was "sofa-ridden" with a lovely hangover. It was usually aired back-to-back with Hercules.
Also to be more on topic, i found Defiance entertaining so i will keep watching.
Re: Defiance

I'm assuming that should read Farscape? And if you liked Farscape I bet you liked Firefly aswell
Seems like alot of people are comparing this to Terra Nova, not so sure about that one.
However from a summary for the game reads as follows:
The visionary open-world shooter MMOG Defiance serves as a companion to the tandem television show on Syfy. In an entertainment first, the game and show will influence and depend on each other, and even feature some players' characters on the TV shows as extras.
Set on a future Earth, Defiance introduces players and viewers to a world where humans and aliens live together on a planet transformed by decades of conflict. The game combines the intense action of a 'AAA' console shooter, with the persistence, scale, and customization of an MMO, while its TV counterpart weaves the rich tapestry of the world into a series with the scope, characters, and drama of a classic sci-fi epic. Because they exist in a single universe, the show and the game will influence each other and evolve together over time, with actions in both mediums driving the overall story of Defiance.
- This I think will be interesting to see how plays out..
Re: Defiance
Here’s something to dance in slow motion about: Syfy’s Defiance on Monday night gave the cabler its highest-rated scripted series premiere since Eureka’s July 2006 bow, drawing 1.3 million viewers in the coveted 18-49 demo.
In total viewers, Defiance delivered 2.7 million, marking Syfy’s biggest premiere audience since Warehouse 13 opened its doors in July 2009.
Defiance, which launched with a two-hour premiere, airs Mondays at 9/8c. Starting April 29, Warehouse 13‘s Season 4.5 will lead out of it, at 10 pm.
I guess since I have never seen all the shows you guys are comparing this to, it doesn't bother me as much.
Re: Defiance
Liked the show. Seems to have some great potential but hope they didnt blew all their budget on the pilot...and we get once more...a soap opera.
Re: Defiance
I quite enjoyed it too, for a pilot not bad apart form the poor CGI that has already been mentioned. I will keep it for a few episodes to see how it develops.
Re: Defiance
I enjoyed it, hope it keeps getting better.
Re: Defiance
Watched this show finally last night and i liked it in general.
The story itself was nothing new. Handsome dogooder comes to town and eventually saves it. bla bla bla. been there done that gazillion times.
As usual i have kept myself from any spoilers, so i had no idea what i was gonna watch besides it being sci-fi.
To be honest i all the time though who's book is this. (now i know it's a tv-show and a game combo)
And I like how they took time for GGI, makeup on different aliens, new different languages. Many people compared this show with Terra Nova, but i felt always like Falling Skies 20 years from now.
I think this show has potential, since they seem to have invested some backstory to it, lot of different characters and some decent actors.
If they won't fuck it up storywise this show is a keeper for me.
