It wasn't. The series just isn't following the book's storylines as tightly as it did on season 1.

To me it seems that they are rushing through the main events and skipping or altering the ones that aren't as critical for the story's progression. Sadly those smaller events are the ones which make you relate to the characters and give the story more depth.

Especially Arya's plot has been altered quite a bit from the books, and it has become way worse than it originally was. I don't know if that has been done to save time to fit the whole book in one season or why, but hopefully they're gonna do a better job with A Storm of Swords which is supposed to be split between two seasons I think.

Edit: And oddly enough they have been reducing the number of bared breasts from the books lately. Not showing Sansa's boobs I can understand cause some asshat would classify that as child pornography but why did they go ahead and change the traditional Qartheen dress also is beyond my understanding.

Yeah i found Arya's plot bad related to the books. And also i dont remember Rob's fight at episode 4 mentioned in the book..let alone the girl he met and spoke to.

Re: Season 2

yeah, it should be in spoiler tags with a warning for only those who have read the books.

Avoiding spoilers is getting harder and harder for this show. You basically would need to avoid all forums to not see them. Which is one of the main reasons I have decided to read the books after season 2 finishes.

The other reason being what was discussed already. Sometimes it feels like the series doesn't have enough time to develop the characters. And I think those who have read the books can "fill in the blanks" so to speak. I'm not saying that the series is hard to follow, I think it does a brilliant job telling such a complicated and multilayered story. It's just that the characters get trampled in the process a bit and I think reading the books will solve that "problem".

There is a serious problem with season 3!

"Avenge Me."
"Judgment Day is inevitable."

Re: Season 2

Caught up with the second season and found it excellent, besides a few things. There are of course a lot of changes, shortcuts, but most of them are fine.

Spoiler

Good:
- Tyrion is great as always, as well as all of his conversations with Cersei.
- The siege of King's Landing was spectacular.
- Theon's plot actually showed moral ambiguity with those to whom he was born with and raised with. In the books I wanted him to die as soon as possible.
- Dany's plot was actually interesting, instead of 100 pages of looking for a ship and "oh Khal Drogo I miss you blahblahblah."
- Although Arya's plot was shortcuted, her scenes with Tywin and Jaqen were fantastic and probably the best part of the season.
- More of Jaimie, that's always good. The same goes for Brienne.

Meh:
- They slashed Sansa's escape plot, the mud twins in Winterfell or whatever, kinda changed Jon's (as I can recall), but I didn't care about those changes either way, so nothing here.

Bad:
- Giving Robb a young girl was boring and unnecessary. If they'd cut that and added the mud twins, that would be a better bargain.
- Too much demeaning sex, with the King & Prostitutes scene being on top of it.
- You really needed to change Asha's name?
- Stannis plot was, I dunno, without emotions. Davos was great, but his talks with Melis were mostly... Dull? Also they didn't make him much likeable (and I imagined him more of a fatty like Rob ;p)

Re: Season 2

I also finally catched up with season 2 and in the first 2 eps i thought damn GoT got boring this season, i wasn't feeling it and switched to Falling Skys which got surprisingly interesting and was already thinking what's going on this year.

But now that i watched all eps, i absolutely changed my mind, season 2 of GoT was effin great.
