[ spoiler]this is spoilering hot stuff about what happened in the fifth book[/spoiler] (remove the space before word spoiler to make them work)
because you will want to talk a lot about what happened in the books when watching the series, because i sure do like to do it.

Re: Season 2
I'm on the first book now... the guys who did the show really went into a lot of detail for the show and did a great job with season 1.
Re: Season 2
Martin was supervising the production. And still is.
what he said.

I totally agree, it's rare to see so much of a book re-produced onto film, yes its a series but normally the picture doesn't do the book the justice it deserves. I was so impressed, a few minor changes that they made but nothing serious.
Lets hope season two follows the same standard.
If you haven't already, also read the early books there quite good to and give a bit of background to the Ice and Fire series.
The Hedge Knight
The Sworn Sword
The Mystery Knight

George R R Martin also got a background from television having worked mostly as a writer for The Twilight Zone and Beauty and the Beast. I think that experience have made him being more active in the making of the television series.
Re: Season 2
So Game of Thrones today anyone?
Re: Season 2
interesting. i think i have read 2nd book at least 2 times, but when i watched 1st episodes in season 2 i did not remember those things. either they have changed the script from the book or my memory is failing me.
but watching the episode i realized that the biggest problem this show has is, that it has so little time and so many characters to show. so eventually everyone will get only so little minutes.
so in a sense if you have never read the book you will never really understand those characters.
i think that if i would have never read the books i would not understand this series.
Re: Season 2
that's why my gf likes to watch it with me, because if there is some new character or some old one, who hasn't show her/his face in a while, then i can sum it up fast, who is who and that kind of staff.
from last episode:
"so this is onion knight. smuggler, who blabla"
"so this is lady Melisandre, red priestess etc"
"so you remember who he is? this is jamie lannister" (because it's been some time when we saw them and there is a lot of characters to remember)

I havent read the books and yeah, its a bit hard sometimes to understand everything, I think they sometimes jump a bit too much from the differnt characters, perhaps a better approach would be to focus on a bit less charactes each episode, so that the onces who are in the episode gets more screentime. But its still a great show, and if i dont understand something i will just read it on this forum because 90% of everyone here seem to have read the books ^^

I want to read them, but in english. Not translated.
Re: Season 2
Personally I don't understand when people say it's hard to follow. I haven't read the books but haven't really been confused at all during the run of the show. But I do agree with Godzi on the fact that some characters don't get enough screen time. To me it seems that there are many people willing to take the crown but I'm not really rooting for any of 'em as they feel a bit distant. I'm planning to read the books during the summer, maybe that will give more insight to the characters.

Well I did read the 2nd book and from what i remember what that did happen in the show did happen in the book too. There are a few little changes but not really like any other book adaptation to tv show did make. They pretty much follow more closely to the book storyline than others.
But I totally agree with you second statement on the to little time for to many characters. Most of the time it feels to rushed while watching the show. You can't really connect to most of the characters like in the books.
