Re: Suggest TV Series
And as for comedies you should watch Arrested Development . Parks and Recreation is awesome if you get through the first 6 episode season.
Re: Suggest TV Series
Well for me a series lives and dies on how interesting the main characters are. I watched episode 1 of Fringe and wanted to punch the main actor in the face (Dawsons Creek dude). Parks and Rec I watched one episode, and only liked the boss character, but if it indeed gets so much better after the beginning I might give it a shot as well (to balance out the grittines of Shield). As for AD, I always confuse this show with Curb your enthusiasm. I've seen couple episodes of either one of 'em and it did seem a bit too loud and obnoxious for my liking.
Re: Suggest TV Series
rubicon is very good. Yes it was cancelled and yes it was slow, but still very very good.

Re: Suggest TV Series
Firefly.
Buffy.
Firefly: seen the first episode, seemed ok, just not that OMG BEST SERIES EVER FU FOX FOR CANCELING IT- vibe everyone seems to be on about. Too much hype killed it for me or too early to tell?
???

This show really does look intriguing and I don't mind slow as long as the characters and the mood is perfect.

Re: Suggest TV Series
Dude, Fringe is great. I'm no fan of the Dawson's Creek guy either, but the role begins to suit him more and more.
I think of it like Band of Brothers...which was awesome...except for the fact that it had David Schwimmer in it...but eventually you get used to him not being that guy from Friends, and then you can enjoy it.

Re: Suggest TV Series
I think with Fringe I'm gonna wait until the series finishes. From what I understand the ratings for the show has been horrible and I'm afraid they will cancel it. I don't want to start watching a show I know is going to end prematurely. If they manage to end it with even a half proper series finale it will go to the list. And to also point out, the stuff I listed will most likely all be watched at some point. I'm just looking for pointers on where to start and what I've missed.
xrnzaaas: A mighty nice suggestion, too bad I've seen it already. Cannot wait for Season 2 tho!
Re: Suggest TV Series
Honestly, I think it'd be impossible to have a good wrap up for Fringe barring the spiritual sort of stuff that has been critiqued concerning the end of BSG(and Lost)...and it would seem sort of out of place on Fringe to have a God resolution...it's more likely to end in a cliffhanger that keeps you questioning things as per the film 'Inception'.
...regardless, my wife and I marathoned the first 3 seasons and were not dissapointed...it's fantastic stuff.
Firefly is also a great choice, and pretty short...the characters are the best part of it...and there's some great comedy in it too...

Re: Suggest TV Series
there are no aliens in BSG. who the hell said you that?
I suggest BSG and Fringe. (just a friendly reminder that first 10 episodes are not that awesome, but then it's just above the roof)
band of brothers is also good show.
Re: Suggest TV Series
Nobody told me there are aliens in BSG, it was my own assumption. For some reason in my head a show with space travel = funny looking aliens. What bothers me with BSG the most is that from what I've heard it turns into a religious mess towards the end.
And as for Fringe, well I already said that I will watch it once the series ends. Oh and Band of Brothers is awesome, I have it on DVD but I want to watch something new on x-mas.
Supernatural seems like a viable option as well but I'm a bit concerned with the concept and the length. 7 seasons of around 20 episodes per season of monster hunt. The longest series I've ever watched was Oz and even with it the last season wasn't as awesome as the others (the quality dropped from perfection to great).
No opinions on Six feet under, treme or human target? Human Target I would like to have more opinions about. From my point of view it might be the weakest show on the list but DC comics stamp makes it interesting.
Re: Suggest TV Series
FINE.
The Wire - it's on 70% of "Best TV show of all time", a realistic look on the city of Baltimore from different angles, with amazing characters and storylines. No, I have not watched it, but it's from David Simon and the hype here is not exaggerated.
The Shield - here I also don't now it, because I haven't watched it, but as in The Wire, big hype and it's from Kurt Sutter and you know Sons of Anarchy.
Firefly - the hype OMG BEST SERIES EVER FU FOX FOR CANCELING IT will get to you, when you watch more episodes (including the brilliant Out of Gas) and the movie, it's an original mix of western and sci-fi with amazing, unique characters with personalities, vices and that one thing for which you would put your life in the hands and knew, that you would be safe.
Mad Men - either a fantastic show or a snoozefest, you need to give it 5-6 episodes and then you can say if you like it or not, because the characters, the settings, the everyday life is it's main plot motor, not the story itself. It is one of the best shows ever made, but it's not for everyone.
Arrested Development - considered one of the best comedies ever made, but I still haven't got a chance to watch it (if you're reading this nivy, hugs and kisses!), I suggest you give it a try.
Rubicon - it's even slower than Mad Men, but it's rewarding as hell. It's build like an old suspense movie, not the modern shit BOMM KABLAM SHOOT SHOOT, but it takes it's time, you will see the story just through a small keyhole, learing new things about it with the characters. Although cancelled, it wraped up it's season quite nice.
Treme - my show. Truly, this is the show to which I can relate to the most. Just like The Wire, but without the cop drama, it depicts the city of New Orleans, it's ups and downs, the people, the history, its unique culture. And the music, the music is not just a background noise to help with segways between scenes, it's one of the main characters of the show, you not just listen to the music, you feel the music. My personal favorite, but that's me. And as in The Wire, David Simon created characters that you can relate to, hate, love, cheerish and live along with, as the story goes on.
Battlestar Galactica - no aliens, the only monsters on the show are the humans (dramatic pause). If you want a marathon, you can't go wrong with BSG. Even if you think you know the ending, you don't know what's in between, and holy shit, with that you'll never expect things that will happen. So say we all.
Six Feet Under - never watched it, but a lot of ppl complain that it's too slow and too depressing, which I personally don't mind, but different people and so on.
Human Target - I MISS IT. God how I miss it, it was such a great action show, with Mark Valley on the lead, and action and humor and Guerrero and I miss it and it had such an amazing intro. I miss it. ;_;
Supernatural - heard a lot of bad things that happen after Season 2, with Kripke being a sexist fucktard and racist, so I would not recommend it. I think it's a waste of time. No, never watched it, but I have trust in some ppl and they say SPN is not worth watching.
In overall, if you want a marathon:
Firefly, BSG, The Wire, The Shield, Human Target.
Re: Suggest TV Series
I guess this is what will happen:
Start out with Shield (because of FX and Sutter (the music in SOA alone is worth watching the whole series and the first ep of Shield also had a good ending song)) accompany it with a lighter comedy, will give AD a chance for a few episodes, if it doesn't work replace with P&R. Once Shield is finished it's a tie between Firefly/Fringe/Human Target. SFU might be a bit too depressing for x-mas times and treme and the wire too realistic for christmas but definitely stays on the to do list. Supernatural gets pushed back and maybe completely off the list for now.
On a totally different note; anyone remember the show called Millennium starring Lance Hendriksen? I've seen it last when it originally aired in Finland and I remember liking it alot. Is it worth rewatching?
