lol...the same thing about michael emerson bothered me,but i'll keep watching too.. Re: Person of Interest 1x01 - 3x01well it actually did not bother me. i guess it's his trademark Re: Person of Interest 1x01 - 3x01well i guess this show is a keeper. still a bit early to go crazy about it, but solid action and you never get bored. Re: Person of Interest 1x01 - 3x01well so far we know a squat about both guys. Re: Person of Interest 1x01 - 3x01I would like to like this more than I actually do. As said before, we need to know more of these 2 main characters. Why does Flinch (?) have a limp? Do they need to get back on the Island? Have to say that he did such a good job on Lost that I have a hard time trusting him as a good guy on the show. Then there is Jesus Christ. So he was an alcoholic for 3 years living on the streets, meets a random dude who plays him a record of a murder and he's sold that this guy is for real. As soon as he gets back into the business of killing people his alcohol problems are all gone. Gimme a break! I like my heroes with faults, that's what made John MacClane so cool. This show needs to start revealing more of a background story or a big conspiracy or something as just another procedural it won't survive. Re: Person of Interest 1x01 - 3x01xrnzaaas wrote:
Evidence of him turning of the cameras != evidence of him murdering. Maybe? Re: Person of Interest 1x01 - 3x01xrnzaaas wrote:
Why would you want to build a cult around it? Isn't enjoying the episodes enough? Haven't we been burned enough by Lost, Flash Forward, BSG and co.? "Building a cult around" is a phrase I would expect from a marketing department trying to sell me something really hard ... Honestly this show has far more hype than it deserves and I am sick of hearing about the "pedigree" behind it and all the expectations come with it. Because then it isn't enough that the show is "good enough," it has to be another revelation like the Lost pilot or BSG (for the most part). I don't care that it is from J.J. Abrams - that means exactly diddly squat nowadays. Yes, he created Felicity and Alias and those shows were good while he was running them. And yes, he directed the until-then most expensive pilot in TV history and guess what? It fucking looked like a movie, was well-paced and intriguing and many people enjoyed it. But he then, as is usual for him, stepped back and Lost slowly devolved into the convoluted mess we ended up with. Fringe was the same, only this time the pilot wasn't even that great. I am sorry, all J.J. Abrams now stands for is slightly-above-average TV scripts, fun but equally pointless movies (I am looking at you, Mission: Impossible 3), and a metric shit ton of lens flares. And Jonah Nolan is the same. So what that he wrote the short story Memento is based on and co-wrote The Prestige and The Dark Knight. That still doesn't mean he knows how to write for TV and I think the pilot showed that. It was good, but not great, and who knows how much longer Nolan will be involved with the production. Credits tend to lie, especially in Hollywood. mclame wrote:
And what's with all this yammering about not enough backstory? We are two episodes in and you already had a flashback to 2002 and 2007 and you know that Finch's partner died in 2010 after they had a falling out. That is almost more information that Lost gave you the whole first season. And yes, maybe Reese's recovery was handled more abruptly than strictly necessary, but you are right, it would have been much better to watch him wallow in alcohol and self-pity for two or three episodes, because that is what everyone wants to see. (That was sarcasm in case you missed it.) Just enjoy the show for what it is: relatively well-made action-packed mystery drama. Stop trying to build a cult around or think it's going to be the next TV revelation. We'll be lucky if it'll become the next 24 ... Re: Person of Interest 1x01 - 3x01Amen (Had to say it) Myka : You slept with her didn't you ?
Pete : Well... you... you told me to investigate ok ? So... she's unarmed. Re: Person of Interest 1x01 - 3x01Perhaps my post sounded way more negative than I had intended. Surely I didn't mean that we wanted to see Reese going through the 12 steps with the AA, I just wanted to see a bit more sadness in him. I mean 3 years of alcholism and self pitty just gone in a blink of an eye. Granted we have not seen him doing anything else besides the missions in wich he is focused on the job. Wich means we don't get to see the human side of him thus making it a bit harder to relate to. Maybe I had "wrong" expectations coming into this series considering the people involved (more expectations on Nolans part than JJ mind you, only liked Lost from JJ). For what it is, it's good (not great though), I'm not just too big on procedurals, I prefer story archs spanning accross episodes (and seasons even). I do follow a few procedurals but they all have a story running in the background (like Red John in The Mentalist) and without the story I would have dropped them ages ago. Have to say that my favorite part of the second episode was when Reese stopped by at Finch's work place, if this cat and mouse game these two play develops more in the upcoming episodes, I'm a happy camper! Your opinion is not everyone's opinion. For me, Lost and Fringe are two of the best shows. Star Trek was for me a very good reboot for Star Trek. I don't lose my attention to details, I focus on the bigger picture. I don't care about names either, I care about results. You seem to care too much about your own high expectations. You seem to expect atleast the same result of a massively expensive movie for a new series, that's just not possible. Re: Person of Interest 1x01 - 3x01mclame wrote:
where nwas it mentioned he was alcoholic? Re: Person of Interest 1x01 - 3x01Mxyzptlk wrote:
I did too, I actually enjoyed it a whole lot while I was watching it in the movie theater, but once the movie finished so did any lasting impact it had. I think it was a fine movie, very entertaining, but it was only good-enough, as is the case with most of Abrams' stuff lately. Yet because of Alias and co. he's treated as this great visionary and director within internet geek circles and anything that has his name attached to it is automatically hyped up and presumed to be great. Which I am arguing it isn't, because now he's selling his name more than actually doing stuff (see Lost, Fringe, Person of Interest) and when he does stuff (Star Trek, Super 8) it is actually underwhelming. Sure, his movies are good enough, which nowadays means they are very much above average, but that is all. And that is not reason enough for me to get all excited about anything that carries his name. His name used to mean "watch this right this moment," now it's more like "this could be good." Phuncz wrote:
Yes, that is why they called them "opinions" and not "facts." Phuncz wrote:
That is fine, I am glad you enjoy the shows. Many people do. I don't think they are anything special (except for Lost's transformation powers, becoming a different show every season). And Star Trek was an entertaining movie, but it wasn't in any shape or form a "good reboot" of Star Trek. If nothing else it went from science fiction to science fantasy and was much closer to Star Wars than any Star Trek movie or episode (right up to blatantly ripping off parts of the original trilogy) I know. And I don't see "changing genre" as part of the definition for "good reboot." But this is the wrong place and time for this discussion ... Phuncz wrote:
You misunderstood my post. I was ranting against people whose expectations of Person of Interest were too high (xrnzaaas and Orlando to some degree) and were criticizing the show for things that it had no influence over (like "not enough backstory in the two episodes that aired). My argument was that Person of Interest is judged unfairly by most people because of the talent behind it and we should enjoy it for what it is, not what we expect it to be because of the writers and creators. OK I can agree with you on that. It seems like an OK show but it didn't wow me either. It needs time and good storywriting to achieve something. Re: Person of Interest 1x01 - 3x01marco1475 wrote:

well i was just speculating. Re: Person of Interest 1x01 - 3x01GodZionu wrote:
Heh, that actually made me chuckle, thanks for that. As for his alcoholism and being down on himself, I agree that he got cured very quickly. I don't think he was drinking Coca Cola, but he wasn't as hopeless as they described him. He was disheveled, didn't groom himself, and was spending his time drinking, but he wasn't homeless. He was just wasting time, because he didn't have a purpose. In fact after the subway altercation and the first meeting with Finch he went back home and shaved. He was still drinking, but at least we were shown that most of the "homelessness" was voluntary. And I think the show was making a point that just like many veterans Reese suffered from a lack of purpose and something to strive for. Military gives you a clear hierarchy and goals to achieve and the real world can feel disorienting. I think now that Reese has a purpose in life and achievable every-day goals his problems are tidied away under surface where they were before. Did all that happen way too fast? Sure. But it was something that could conceivably happen over longer stretches of time condensed for our viewing pleasure and I don't really have a problem with that. Re: Person of Interest 1x01 - 3x01and who says that after killing few bad guys, he does not sit back in front of tv and drink some?
