The Shield

The Shield is about an experimental division of the Los Angeles Police Department set up in the fictional Farmington district ("the Farm") of Los Angeles, using a converted church ("the Barn") as their police station, and featuring a group of detectives called the Strike Team who will stop at nothing to bring their version of justice to the streets.

Shawn Ryan is a genius. I don't know why I've been postponing The Shield , maybe because there are 7 seasons , but it was on FX and with only 13-15 eps per season it's perfect for me right now. Thanks to the now canceled sad The Chicago Code created by the same Shawn Ryan I bumped The Shield to frontrunners on my next-list.
And Boom - It's the best cop show ever. It's so addictive I can't watch anything else right now. I've seen 3 seasons in a few days.

I recommend it to anyone that doesn't have a problem with a dose of violence - It was on cable so they kept it real.

Here's a taste just in case you know nothing about the show- Trailer

Watch The Shield now!

Re: The Shield

These polls you're making really should have two additional choices:
- None.
- Haven't seen the show.

Yeah well you have the option to Not Vote big_smile
I would add those but on shows with more than 7 seasons it would be kind of long don't you think?

Re: The Shield

I totally agree, it is one of the best drama shows ever and the best cop show ever in my opinion (have not seen The Wire). It's immensely good on acting, writing and storyline. I saw it from beginning to end three times. It's about 70 hours of pure brain-massage.

Re: The Shield

I have watched something like 10 episodes of season 1, and I like the show quite a bit, but sometimes you can't help but feel resentment for Vic. He is one corrupt detective...

Re: The Shield

It's more that I understood him than liked him. I liked his methods but he worked himself into some serious shit by trying to do everything.

Re: The Shield

The Shield is phenomenal. It gets often mentioned with The Wire as the best cop shows (dramas?) of all time and my personal take is that they are both two sides of the same coin.

While The Wire is a really deep, thought-provoking treatise first on drugs and the police and then on society as a whole and a masterpiece of storytelling that seeks its equal, The Shield is police drama brought to a peak of perfection in the adrenaline-soaked style known from Hollywood movies.

Both are superb dramas, probably the best ever televised and Shield's final minutes are a special kind of greatness. And both need to be watched.

Re: The Shield

The Shield is far better than the Wire. The Wire fell away after the first season the Shield only got better and better. the last season is the best last season of any show ever IMO.

Re: The Shield

The face on Vic in the end was precious. Best cop show I ever saw, hands down.

Even better than Life which I enjoyed immensely.

Like I said, The Shield's final minutes are a special kind of greatness. I thought the ending was just superb. I do love Life though. Probably wouldn't put it near The Wire and The Shield, but I'm glad you brought it up ...

I think that this is what makes this show the greates ever to been aired on tv. The diversity in the carachters and the fight for doing the wrong things for the right reasons. Both Vic and his wife had to do the "wrong" choices according to their own belifes. The ending of The Shield is the very best ending of a tv series ive ever seen.

I dont think i have watched any shows that had me plundering and analyzing the characters as much as the shield. I am a big fan and have watched the full series two times. Was as much intrigued the second time around as the first.

Re: The Shield

My opinion is that Vic had to make difficult choices where there was no good options and I understand them.
Is he a good person ? Maybe
Did he did bad things ? Yes
Was he a bad cop ? Not the way I see it

I agree it is the best ending (and series) of any show i have ever watched, the other last episode of a series was Rosanne. I did not watch the series as such and not a fan of the show, but have seen the last ep and thought it was brilliant.

Re: The Shield

So I started my Shield marathon today. 2 episodes down and I'm liking it so far. Good to see familiar actors who've proven to be amazing in other shows (Hello Walton Goggins!) What struck me out the most was the great use of music just like in SOA. I know Kurt Sutter has his hands in on both shows, anyone has any info if he has his fingers in these things? The use of Kid Rock's Bawtidaba at the end of episode 1 fit the scene perfectly (even some of the action got louder when the song kicked in second gear.)

So far I'm not feeling it for the Dutchman and his partner. The everyday cop business doesn't seem that interesting to me (the bullying of the new guy tho I find rather interesting).

All in all I don't think I'll be having any problem to finish all 7 seasons before the year ends, that being said I think it's time for episode 3 now...

Re: The Shield

long story short:

1. didn't like the gay storyline, feels out of place.
2. liked kurt sutter's drug jesus character should give dutchman and his partner some more action than the case of the week stuff.
