Re: 4x02

I agree it was at least interesting and a lot better than the first episode...wonder if this was an exception or a general rule for the season

I'm going to click the spoiler button now because I can't resist.
Will I regret it?

Answer: Umm, not really. But it was unexpected wink

And the reason would never be that they are trying to push their HBO Go service as they did with at least Game of Thrones? Trust me, the bad reviews had absolutely nothing to do with their decision to release the second episode online.

First off, that kind of a decision has to be made weeks if not months beforehand. Second, reviews are published a few days before the episode airs, if not the day when the episode airs, and it would nigh impossible for the execs to schedule the release of the second episode right after the original airing of the season opener. And lastly, while the reviews might have been bad - I don't, I haven't checked - they mean squat when it comes to TV. All that matters are ratings and the season opener matched the all-time high ratings for the whole rune of True Blood.

So from the perspective of the execs is True Blood off to a perfect start and there is no need to squander the second episode by airing it prematurely to "salvage the bad reviews." The only reason they released the second episode online is to get a critical mass of users interested in their HBO Go service for which they can charge even more money.

true, so many great shows got canceled because of this

Re: 4x02

I wont get into the TV ratings debate, because, frankly, it is bloody tiresome. HBO and other small cable channels have a different duty, they have to honor the following, a small following that spends on merchandising and promotes the show is better than a volatile following on the open airwaves, my little token on the matter. I have been saying for years that shows need to have sponsors, instead of announcers. Funding should come from merchandising rather than add spots. A smart company would know that merchandising will "go with the show" once it spreads through all the filesharing systems. I would actually count the torrent action of my show to prove it's popularity, the same way we used to count the number of posts on our social networks and youtube rposts and responses. Modern TV executives need to underestand that television is no longer a single sourced media. --- Damn, I was planning on not going all academic on the matter.

Re: 4x02

Ok, the first ep was a misfire... this was so much better.

Re: 4x02

I've watched both episodes in a row and liked them very much (the show certainly started better than a year ago). It's good that a lot of things are happening, because I would hate to see TB becoming a rather slow-paced show again. I would only kill Tara because she's even more annoying as a lesbian.

Re: 4x02

This episode was so good compared to the first one! I loved the ending when Eric was walking down the road, completely disoriented, and his line 'why do you smell so good'
