Topic: 2x20 - Gauntlet
Sad times... In a little of 6 hours the last ever episode in the Stargate franchise will have finished; a franchise that has been on our download lists for 14 years I just hope it does it justice, though we all know it won't (assuming they haven't changed the episodes after they knew it would be cancelled)! If a show like V gets renewed over this, there is no justice!

Re: 2x20 - Gauntlet
well this was not the way i wanted this show to end, but i guess it pre written and filmed before the grim news. sucks balls. today is certanly a sad day for sci-fi lovers, because one era has ended. as a Stargate fan i am utterly sad.

Re: 2x20 - Gauntlet
I'm getting the impression (see spoiler tag due to nature of comment pertaining to plot) ▼Spoiler Eli is sacrificing himself, since he's said goodbye to his mother and how he didn't get right onto trying to fix the stasis pod. I am so annoyed that Sci-Fi killed SGU, but also did anyone else notice it said "Season Finale" in the lower left corner after ad-breaks? not "SGU Finale" as they usually put for end of run shows (I refer to BSG's Finale episode it showed "Battlestar Galactica Finale"), so they are implying there may be another season, but Sci-Fi are the ones who decided not to broadcast it anymore. I guess the age of true Sci-Fi shows has ended...

Re: 2x20 - Gauntlet
Did anyone else find it very convenient that there were exactly the same number of pods as people. If I ever get round to rewatching this I'm going to keep track of how many people get killed. They didn't start off with that many and a lot got killed along the way. That being said the show certainly picked up this season, it became good enough to go on the small list I have of shows I watch as soon as the download finishs, rather than later on when I can watch a whole season over a week.

Re: 2x20 - Gauntlet
Wow. . . If that was truly the end, it was a pretty fitting one. I'm sad that they killed it before it got better. even sadder that the cancellation took down the Atlantis movie with it.

Re: 2x20 - Gauntlet
Erm, what happened to the descendants? I would love to know as well how they expected to start next season with an ending like that, I suppose they must have had an inclining that is wasn't going to be renewed... Least they could go back to it with an ending like that though.

Re: 2x20 - Gauntlet
Well the ending was - much much better than what I expected after the previous episode. I was thinking about how they would handle all the loose ends and the "Oh fuck we will just give up and run away" was a fairly good choice.

Re: 2x20 - Gauntlet
Man, that was melancholic. I still defend that the best way to end this is with a mini-series. I also wouldn't be surprised to see it in three years. I just hope they do something. Unlike most people, I liked the show from the start, but the second season was a real joy/pain to watch. (Joy/Pain is similar to catharsis, but less serious, rsrsr, just to make "meself" clear).

Re: 2x20 - Gauntlet
The main point here that it's not only the end of SGU but an end (death) to the entire franchise. After 15 years (The TV series, not including the Original movie back in '93) , there will be no more Stargate, No more TV shows/TV movies.

Is it just me who thought; Why the #¤%& didnt they force two people into one pod? Other than that is was an unexpected ending, and it's sad we will never see more stargate:(

Re: 2x20 - Gauntlet
I liked the ambiguity of the ending - it's always nice to leave it up to the viewer to decide for themselves what happened to them and it definitely beats any hasty conclusion to either the drone-ship problem ("How lucky that we've found the command ship that controls all the other command ships and after a climactic battle we've destroyed it and now we are safe!") or the whole what's-Destiny's-mission plot. ▼Spoiler However, the whole business about cryo-pods being broken was not only cliche and predictable, it was overused even within the episode itself - I mean both "last minute problems" are the same, a pod not working possibly forcing x-number of people to stay behind? The only saving grace was that the writers avoided the "mentor sacrifice" trope and didn't have Young stay behind - up until the last minute I was fearing that Young would trick or wrestle Eli into the pod against his will, thus heroically sacrificing himself. Nevertheless, the ambiguity of whether or not Eli fixes the pod makes it bearable All in all I cannot bemoan the passing of the Stargate franchise since I was never a big fan. I watched only a few episodes of SG1 and both seasons of SG-U, but I will say the absence of any sci-fi TV show taking place in space is a sad thing. Looks like after real space travel died due to public indifference a couple of decades ago, space-bound sci-fi is now following in its footsteps. And since Star Trek is busy emulating Star Wars in the theaters and there won't be any Stargate mini-series or TV movies, we won't see spaceships on our TV screens for quite some time ...

Re: 2x20 - Gauntlet
Gonna try to clear some things up with the ending. ▼Spoiler At the end ELI is standing on the observation deck taking in the view of the ship. He is not sacrificing himself by not immediately working on the stasis pod. If anything he's getting inspiration on how to fix it, at least that's what i took from the little smirk in the end scene. This is pretty much a perfect ending, much better then wut SGA got... but its still sad to see this series end. Hopefully it can get picked up by another network or something but i'm not getting my hopes up. YOU ARE HERE

Re: 2x20 - Gauntlet
A very nice ending to a very nice show. I personally liked SGU more than SGA that is a bit of a different genre anyway. Goofy and cloned from SG1 with their very own Oneil (Shepard), etc... Yea, some parts were a bit predictable but it fitted well and we're not hunged up on some TSCC stupid cliffhanger that makes absolutly no sense. ▼Spoiler At least, Eli either dies trying or succeeds... ... and it leaves everything open for a movie or another mini-serie (even if it's unlikely). Sad to see the end of it but not feeling in rage on how it went out. YOU ARE HERE

Re: 2x20 - Gauntlet
There is a saying "its better to burn out than to fade away" Sadly for SGU, it was more of a fade away...and thats probably how most people will remember it, it ended with more of a sad quiet whimper than a glorious death scream ...which is a shame , cause the second series was great. It deserved a better finish than that.

Re: 2x20 - Gauntlet
The sad part is that the writers planned for a concluding movie that's now not gonna happen. How awesome are the possibilities for a movie taking place three years after Destiny drops out of FTL. There are so many possibilities. They even can use only a fraction of the actors because many pods failed of course. And a new Galaxy opens the way for new enemies or friends. And depending on the success there could be another season of SGU... It's really a shame that the whole space ship era comes to an end with this. But I liked the ending. Predictable - yes, but fitting and at least we don't have a major cliffhanger RIP

I think they may have cut an episode out thinking about it now. Weren't they going to head to the planet the people from Novus evacuated to, and then drop the descendants off? Surely they wouldn't have skipped meeting them? They must have been dropped off somewhere otherwise they would definitely not had enough pods!

I'm not sure about this. Destiny is huge. There could easily be enough pods for everyone. And from a show writing perspective it would make sense to keep the descendats for future seasons, since it's the only chance for a random guy get killed on a planet. Otherwise they run out of personnel quickly
