Topic: 1x02 - The Kingsroad
Worst ending in the history of television... ▼Spoiler My absoulte favorite thing in the world are wolves and I hate seeing anything bad happen to them...I don't care what happens to people as long as the wolves are fine...so that ending kind of pissed me off. The rest of the episode was good and interesting, you can tell were there cutting around the book in some part (never read it so guessing) but it seems to be working. I just wish that ending didn't happen is all...

Re: 1x02 - The Kingsroad
well now on this second episode everything feels too rushed. they show only a little about everybody and too much Daenerys. She has no major role in the first book. i think that if i had not read the book i would find it hard to understand what's going on. But otherwise this is the best show this year by far.

I don't feel that this episode was rushed, the pacing was excellent. The cast works perfectly. It's true to the book series. Yum yum yum.

Re: 1x02 - The Kingsroad
So far so good in my opinion. Haven't read the whole book yet, but much more than these two episodes have shown. I'm not sure if I would've completely understood everything that happened during the episodes if I hadn't read it. And damn, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) is hilarious and so much better than I imagined! Also, it's like he is a lost brother of Robert Downey Jr.

Re: 1x02 - The Kingsroad
It is very sad when animals get hurt. It was true to the book though and i think it was a good step of for an ending of this episode. The queen is so evil! Peter Dinklage have always been good and i knew he would do amazing as Tyrion but yes i agree it is better than i could imagine. It felt like a bit to much Daenerys in this episode but at the same time all of those scenes felt very important for the future (even if a bit reduntant at this time). Since they wanted to end the episode as they did it was good of them to add the scenes with Daenerys to make that possible.

Well, I've started watching without reading a synopsis or any character bios. IMO if you start fresh it's not easy to fully understand who's what (now and prior to the current story) and what happened where. But maybe it's just me used to shows easier to grasp.

Well, I had trouble with who's what even in the book. So in that particular area one might call it truly true to the book

Re: 1x02 - The Kingsroad
I find the best way to remember characters for a new show, is to use other show's they've been in, eg: Eddard "Ned" Stark - James Bond villian (006) Annoying blonde guy who lets anyone shag his sister (Viserys Targaryen) - guy from Doctor Who His sister (Daenerys Targaryen) - girl who's being shagged by Ronnon Dex (SG: A) The only other English speaking guy that hangs around with them (Ser Jorah Mormont) - guy from Spooks King of the barbarians (Khal Drogo) - see above Dwarf brother (Tyrion Lannister) - the dwarf His brother (Ser Jaime Lannister) - guy from New Amsterdam (and other things) Sister he's shagging (Cersei Lannister) - Sarah Connor I did get slightly confused at first over the Stark brother/Jon Snow (the bastard), (they look similar) but I've got that now... Obviously the King is the King, and Joffrey is the annoying girl, and the Stark children are mostly different, Bran the one who got pushed off thing, Arya the tomboy one, her older sister, and then an even younger boy... Sorted With regards to who was what, the above doesn't help I suppose Though from what I have gathered: The Targaryen's father was King, and then Baratheon (current King) along with non-Dwarf Lannister brother killed the king (brother was King's Hand). In the process Starks sister (who King loved) was killed by the Targaryen's. Targaryen's ran (not literally) across the "Narrow sea" (English Channel ). Fast forward some years, the same Lannister brother, along with his sister kill the current King's Hand, a good friend of the King and Stark. At start of the series... If that helps... Though joking about the English Channel, it does have a few parallels to Ancient/Early Britain. Hadrian's wall: the big Wall keeping out the White Walkers, i.e the Scots. Also the map looks slightly like an elongated Britain. Then the Narrow sea, the English Channel, between Westeros and "I don't know the name of the land", which is France, where over thrown rulers have fled to, usually to gather armies (eg, Pillars of the Earth, Queen Maud, etc).

Thanks for that, Halo2. I also use the method you've described to memorize characters, but the problem is I know maybe four actors and the rest is unknown to me.

Re: 1x02 - The Kingsroad
for those of you that have read the book... i think its best if ya just try to ignore it and enjoy the show. Cause, speaking from experience... reading the books tend to completely ruin the show for me. Not that i don't like both in their own way. But when ya take away that surprise of not knowing what happens, the show just can't be looked at the same. i totally intend to check out the books sometime, just not in a rush to do so.

Great deduction, but one small correction: The non-dwarf Lannister brother (Jamie, btw.) wasn't Targaryen's Hand but part of his Kingsguard (knights aka "sers" sworn to protect the king), which is a very telling part of his personality (being able to betray the king he was sworn to protect to advance his family's standing). Also the political intrigue part of the books is based on the Wars of Roses, so parallels with Britain aren't coincidental. I'd even say they are intentional.

Re: 1x02 - The Kingsroad
The Targaryens last king did have a Lannister for Hand but it was the father of the queen and Jamie. poncherello yes for most works that is true but then sometimes when something is well made it can actually help evaluate the experience. That have been the case with having read the books and watching the tv-show so far. I think it will continue to be that way too.

Doesn't matter, looking at him, you'd have thought he was British! marco1475 wrote:Halo2 wrote:Though joking about the English Channel, it does have a few parallels to Ancient/Early Britain.
