Re: The Mandalorian

I enjoy the show, but this episode was pretty ham fisted.

I don't need the director to beat me round the head with a Colt .45 whilst screaming "THEY'RE COWBOYS, DUMMY!" to figure out that it's a Western B movie homage.

The genre is science FICTION, why should the laws of physics have to apply?

Just watch a show and appreciate for what it is.  If you can't, don't watch it.

Well I'll just say that scene did stick out to me, and I was thinking, "Hmm, uhhh okay, no way it's that quiet, etc ..."

Not saying that it bothered me or affected my desire to watch, just that I did happen to notice that particular scene. smile

I know folks in "2020" make a huge thing about that stuff on IMDb reviews, but I agree. - If I'm looking for science fiction to be realistic, or even emergency rooms to adhere to real life, I probably shouldn't even watch. I'm not watching to nitpick, but to be entertained. - A lot of the zombie apocalypse pundits and aficionados are famous for that hairsplitting smile...

I can ignore a lot (and didn't even notice the lack of hair movement IIRC), but yes, talking to each other like that was sooo unrealistic. big_smile

Who knows, maybe with technology so advanced they travel faster than the speed of light they have also developed noise cancelling short range hands free communications for their transport?

Yep i noticed that also right away and stood out to me but with the rest i'm fine.

Maybe they slowed down to 30 kmh to talk smile But the bigger question is how you can survive riding in the desert without a helmet or at least goggles big_smile

Ahhh. Exactly. And that would make the sand people the Tusken Raiders.

It's obvious! Their speeders project an air-con bubble around them, and they're talking on mics with some solid noise cancelling tech.

Hope that clears things up a little!

Did you hear the noise of the speeder in the last episode? Sooo much louder than in the previous ep. I don't think it was going any quicker either.

Yes, it was in my first post... no goggles, and almost no hair movement at at least 100mph tongue

Re: The Mandalorian

And did you see X-Wing Starfighters, when they were flying on each side of the Razor Crest?
"Wobbling" like there were wind/turbulence in space...(or were they beneath the athmosphere of the planet, I don't think so?)

The sand people have always been Tusken raiders, it's not a secret.

I take it there aren't that many SW fans here. smile

Re: The Mandalorian

Well that was bloody terrible.

Thank God it was 6 minutes shorter than last week's episode, which was itself more than ten minutes shorter than the season opener.

Season two is threatening to be a bit of a lemon.

Re: The Mandalorian

I enjoy this show, it's goofy and does not take all Starwars opera too seriously. This is the Way big_smile

88

Re: The Mandalorian

Yeah I'm really enjoying it too.

It's the only half decent SW we have had since Disney bought the franchise and turned it into third wave feminist propaganda.

It's a bit of SW fun without gender politics being forced down my throat.

Re: The Mandalorian

It wasn't terrible at all imo, yes it's not that profound but i dont mind that and to be fair it wasnt in the first season either.  It's quite entertaining and easy to watch with great cgi, so keep them coming (as season 3 is already confirmed for 2021).

Re: The Mandalorian

I thought the latest episode was the best so far this season, and one of the best overall for the series. We got some historical, cultural context that some suspected, forward progress with this season's overarching goal that also added extra jolts of adrenaline to the experience, a passing look at the ongoing state of affairs in the SW universe, and fans suspicions of a certain character appearing soon has been confirmed. Despite being the shortest episode of the season so far, it was probably the most informative, and AFAIC, the most satisfying. This is the frackin' way!

I have to smile every time they show a small animal where they've spent 'zero' $ on making it look real. big_smile It's weird, in almost any other show it would rather annoy me. cool

Re: The Mandalorian

1x05 very nice,

Spoiler

and they atleast still respect the lightsaber and not like in SW 7-9 where any peasant could just use one and it could be defeated by some random weapon from stormtroopers

I think the director of this Episode Dave Filoni did a nice job and is talented, wonder if he did more episodes, if not he should.

Re: The Mandalorian

As a longtime fan of the expanded universe of SW I really appreciate how the Mandalorian turns out.

Spoiler

I always hoped the new Trilogy would stick to the books I read over the last 25 years ( almost 80 of them), but it didn´t :-( . It´s so exhilarating that the Mandalorian does. I hope we see the Chiss in person.

Thx to daemonious and lighton

Re: The Mandalorian

Those books are gone.  Theres now Canon and Legends according to the marketing.  The old books are Legends and anything in the films or TV (including Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance etc) is now classed as Canon. Basically the IP is Disneys and they can choose to bring back elements from it but do not expect it to be followed.  It already isn't.

If you watch Rebels and Clone Wars (also done by Filoni) you will see that everything that's been brought into the Mandalorian so far like GAT has already been 'brought back' previously in those shows with new but similar backgrounds.

Re: The Mandalorian

The thing with Filoni is (and I'm guessing Favreau), is that they pick things from out of the books and other "legends" that they like, therefore making them canon.  Just look at Cobb Vanth and the darksabre.

I'm really impressed with this season of The Mandalorian, I think they nailed Ahsoka.

And if that last episode wasn't a nod to some classic Samurai films I don't know what is.

2020.  Meh.
