This show also takes advantage of new "green screen" tech which can handle more complex outdoor action in a realistic manner.

The cool thing about Stagecraft, which Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) / Lucasfilm invented, is that it actually replaces green screens:

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said a Disney executive visited the set of The Mandalorian and thought that the Stagecraft-generated environment was physically there. “He had no idea he was standing in a virtual set,” Kennedy said, according to Slashfilm. “That’s how unbelievable it is.”

That's from https://qz.com/1754288/disney-is-trying … ndalorian/ - which also has a cool video about this great innovation. The future will look even better in the future. big_smile

I've stumbled upon this video today, the tech is even more fascinating than I thought! smile

Why 'The Mandalorian' Uses Virtual Sets Over Green Screen | Movies Insider
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ufp8weYYDE8

For decades, film and TV productions have used green and blue screens to place actors into new environments. Now, LED walls are revolutionizing this process by projecting 3D environments in real time behind actors to provide the illusion of being in a physical location. These methods were put to the test on Disney’s "The Mandalorian," of which over half was filmed indoors on a virtual set. This process of combining traditional cinematography techniques with advanced world-building technology effectively eliminates the need for a green screen.

You should check out the docuseries Disney Gallery: the Mandalorian. It has a whole episode just about "the Volume". It's really cool...

Re: The Mandalorian

S3 kicked off well I thought.

Spoiler

For me it had undertones of Magnificent 7 and a Clint Eastwood western, both of which I enjoyed wink

And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes....

Re: The Mandalorian

Spoiler

And sooo much Boba Fett stuff!

2020.  Meh.

Interesting... smile

I found it weird that those tiny alien planet rodents look much more realistic than the big 'buffalo' working animals. cool IIRC I got the same impression in season 1. smile It's not too distracting though, in a way it adds more of a Disney feeling. wink

The banthas were cannon fodder so maybe not a priority wink

Krayt dragon looked great and also the last explosion was nice.

Re: The Mandalorian

Riding at 100mph?? with at podracer in the desert, a lot of sand, with no glasses, almost no hair movement, talking to eachother in a moderate volume... wow, this show has so many stupid scenes I can't take it seriously?!
BUT again.. why try to find stupid things in a series with a Yoda baby smile , dragons, sand people that grunts, light speed flying space ships with more flaky metal/materials than a garbage can etc etc... That's maybe more stupid, instead of just trying to being entertained?!

Giving this episode 9.2 (IMDB from thousands of users), is hilarious either way. IMHO.

I can ignore a lot (and didn't even notice the lack of hair movement IIRC), but yes, talking to each other like that was sooo unrealistic. big_smile

Not sure, would have to check my travel diaries... but the laws of physics do seem to apply there too. cool

Laws of physics? In Star Wars? Are you sure?

Re: The Mandalorian

The genre is science FICTION, why should the laws of physics have to apply?

Just watch a show and appreciate for what it is.  If you can't, don't watch it.

2020.  Meh.

Re: The Mandalorian

Guys... I have no problem with stuff that can (potentially) be explained with technical inventions, but talking to each other that way at that speed with NO tech was something else. cool

Re: The Mandalorian

This show seems to be all over the place. In 1 scene It's all going well and you think yea this is great, the next is like they used a whole different crew of amateurs and let them produce/direct it.
Then the next scene back to being awesome.
It bothers me, but not enough to stop watching.
